Very nice November and December, that's not too bad for someone not really training. Enjoy the break over the Xmas hols :)

Some fine work AM, you seem to have a nice routine working well for you there with good balance and everything is playing ball, well done on the pbs.

Delighted to see you back logging! Was great to see your progress on Strava, but it's much nicer to see it with some accompanying narration :D

A flying end to 2016 for you, and no doubt you'll have a flying start to 2017! Can't wait to see all the above times being smashed even more in the next few months. It seems like you are really enjoying your running right now and it's lovely to see.
Have a super break, AM, and a Very Very Merry Christmas to you!

Senseless babble you mean A :D it was touch n go, especially (as you pointed out) because not posting here wasn't doing my running any harm!!

Any chance of a loan of that age card.

Thans again for your help and support,

    Have a great Christmas.

Thanks T :). Indeed, I was beating myself up (as you do) for not being able to stick with her at the time! Best not to remember though that there are runners older than me who are far faster too

Delighted to see you back and, most importantly, enjoying your running. Congrats on all the PBs, that's fantastic work given the year you had! I mean it would be fantastic work anyway, but you know what I mean. :P

:p:p I do Maximus, and thanks!

And she's back :D. Wasn't the same without you AM. Or FD. Or Annie. Or whatever you're calling yourself these days ;).

Delighted to see the PBs rolling in after what you've had to put up with this year. Well deserved and I suspect many more to come in the near future. Have a wonderful Christmas and NY.

Couldn't be happier to see this training log, full of brightness and shining stars, come back to life :) It's been said already but we missed you and it sounds like the break from logging didn't do you any harm. That's some haul of races and PBs you've been racking up there, well done, it's some come back.

Delighted to hear that you're feeling the benefits of the bike - Gerry Duffy maintained in Tick Tock Ten that the bike translates well to running but not the other way around and I'd have to agree from my experience. It sounds like you feel the same. Is it all commuting or are you getting out for some nice long spins at the weekends?

So XC, mountain trail runs, 2 miles, road running ..... which one has made your heart flutter the most?

Thanks S :) delighted to see you're really getting back into things too, 2017 onwards & upwards yes?! No weekend spins on the bike, just the commuting but I'm hoping to do our club Duathalon in the summer and that's a long spin (40 miles I think) so I think I'll need to practice being out for a long time in one go.

Hmmm, I'd love to do more trail runs, I'm going to sign up to IMRA in the new year and see if I can do a couple of the easier ones. Will make more of an effort to get out to places like Howth head & Djouce too. But the best buzz definitely comes from XC!

    19th December 4.3 miles @ 11:16 avg HR 132
Ran with a clubmate, it was bitterly cold and very foggy according to my strava comment, I'm sure I was tired after the previous days XC too.

    Tuesday 20th December Club Session:
warm up jog to the club 1 mile @ 10:36 avg HR 139
    club session 11 x 1 min @ 5k pace off 30 sec jogged recoveries =2.1 miles @ 8:30 avg HR 162
cool down run home 1 mile @ 11:15 avg HR 136
Tore off like a hare for the first 2 reps of this and paid dearly for the rest of the session which I quit after 11, the full session was 16 x 1 min. Body was tired still and I should have just done these at 10k or HM effort but I seem incapable of being sensible

    Wednesday 21st December 3 miles @ 11:16 avg hr 128
I haven't put anything on strava for this & nothing comes to mind so just 3 miles easy around the village.

    Thursday 22nd / Friday 23rd rest / lunches / dinners / drinks / shopping!

Saturday 24th December 3 miles @ 10.45 (no HR data)
Had been RD in Cabinteely that morning and then was doing final bits of running around so it was late when I eventually got out and raining heavily. No bother though, enjoyed it and came home to a delicious roast butchers steak and a very nice glass of red, yum!

Sunday 25th December 4 miles including 2 mile club race.
We have a 2 mile race every year on Christmas day, always a great atmosphere, using the same handicaps from the winter league. Jogged up with a gang of clubmates to the start line 2 miles out the road @ 10:39 avg HR 140. Stood around for about 15 mins waiting for the race to start and then a while more for my group to begin. I wasn't expecting much from this, I was very tired so I wasn't going to beat myself up for under performing however.....one guy in my group who had been with me in the league but never beaten me was on my heels for the first half a mile so what did I do? Pushed on.... first mile came in in 7:34, I tried to maintain the pace for the 2nd mile but it wasn't going to happen and it was 8:06 (a bit lumpier too!) avg HR 177. A great workout for the day and a 2 sec PB for the 2 mile distance 15:19!!.......nope, can't take it, the course measured as 1.96 (although GC has me at 15:18 for 1.96 :D) Anyway, was very happy with this especially as it was on road rather than the track and proof the league (on the track) wasn't some sort of fluke. Got another bottle of wine for my trouble, a lovely Sangre de Toro to remind me of my holidays Came home and ate like I'd just ran a marathon :p then sat on the couch watching Casablanca, Home Alone & It's a Wonderful Life :)

Monday 26th December: Pieta house 6K(ish)
Roped another clubmate into doing this, "we'll just jog it" says I, "I promise no racing today" says I....Started off with a warm up around the track, bumped into another (speedy) club mate also doing warm up so this was far too fast - 1.2 miles @ 9:28 avg HR 139
Started the 'race', which was not timed, at a reasonably slow pace or so I thought but the first mile came in at 9:10 so I thought we could stick at that and do the run at HMP (although that's definitely not my current HMP!), second mile came in at 9:02 followed by an 8:39 mile, seriously, finished up with 8:49 for the last .6 so we'll call it a progression run of sorts and a good workout. A good turn out for this local run for a good cause and lots of people out with kids on bikes, dogs, whole families etc. Lovely atmosphere and beautiful weather. Thoroughly enjoyed this run. Tried to do a mile cool down on the track but opted for 1 lap followed by tea & mince pies in the GAA club house instead

Hoping to get out on the bike with a clubmate for a social spin (have never done one!) in the next day or too.

I'll leave you with This, unfortunately the sun has gone down on my first true love, RIP George.

A bit late, but great to see you logging again Fired Annie got your something something. It was almost like you were never away... though maybe that's 'cos you were still on Strava :) Well done on the race-streak - putting the rest of us to shame :)

Wednesday 28th December: Bike 23.3 miles avg HR 120
Social cycle with a club mate, I'm a bit nervous of back country roads on the bike so we opted to go up to the PP, grab a coffee and come back, not very exciting given I know these roads so well now but it was nice to have company and also not be in any rush. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, sunshine & 10 degrees! Did a lap of the park (Ordinance Survey, S bends & back up to Farmleigh) while we were there. Got to the boathouse in Farmleigh only to get in and see a massive queue for coffee. Waited about 5 mins and then decided to cut our losses & head back in to Castleknock village instead. Had a mince pie and seasonal winter warmer cappuccino in The Butlers Pantry, yum yum! and headed home in the fading light.. Enjoyed this but I'll have to bring my back pack with extra clothes in future and will have to be a bit more adventurous route wise! Was tired after this as I usually have an 8 hour gap between rides.
Santa brought a new toy for Christmas which doesn't make me cycle faster but I"m looking forward to trying it out on a run next and in the pool over the weekend....

    Thursday 29th December
3 miles walk / jog in St. Catherines with woody, another glorious day but had no time for a run afterwards.

    Friday 30th December AM Run 2.3 miles @ 11:19 avg HR 135....
Ugh! After one too many glasses of wine last night, a middle of the night heart failure when I thought there was a burglar in the house () and, I've eaten my body weight in rocky road Christmas cake in the last week so I had a feeling this wasn't going to be pretty, but sometimes when you go out anyway you feel better as the run goes on. Not this time! Felt tired and my HR was far higher than it should have been. Started a second lap which would have made it a whole 3 miles but pulled the plug and slunk home after 2.3 miles :o:

PM Deep tissue massage. Every time I sneezed yesterday I got a dart of pain in my left glute ouchy ouch! It got steadily worse as the day went on and also was radiating down into my hamstring so I booked a massage in the only place that seemed to be open. Did the trick anyway, plenty of pain in the entire left leg from calf to glute especially around the IT band area. New years resolution no 1 is to get back to regular yoga and foam rolling.

    Saturday 31st December:
4.1 miles @ 11:31 avg HR 137.....hmm. Headed to the PP after RD duties in Cabinteely, last parkrun of the year! To make sure the new watch HR info was right I wore both old and new on today's run. Unfortunately, while they disagreed slightly on pace & distance they were scarily accurate on the HR readings which is still too high especially for such a low pace. Anyway, enjoyed this much more than yesterday but kept it shorter than originally planned and knocked the post run swim on the head in favour of the couch (although I still haven't quite made it there yet :p) Really looking forward to the double northside parkruns tomorrow.

Happy new year to all, I know 2016 has not been a great year for many reasons, so here's hoping next year will be kinder to everyone.

Mileage for the year: 970.4 runs, 1,050 on the bike.
