Just having a look at the Irish Times website and I spotted this doozie of a headline "Taoiseach says people contacted Government to say they had been paid extra." Does he really think anyone will believe this happened "Speaking on his way into this morning’s Cabinet meeting, he said: “It was great to see last week some people contacting and saying to us, ‘I’m not sure whether it was a mistake or not but I seem to have got extra money on this last payment’."

    This happens all the time.

People just check with PAYE to verify unusual changes.

    Thread- worthy?

They have a weekly column dedicated to him, I believe last week he was playing golf with Kim Jong, Kim Jong finished his round in 18 shots, Enda couldn't quite keep up, he scored 19.

I for one thank Enda for allowing us to get more money. It's very generous of him, he doesn't have to do it you know!

The article implies that people were contacting the government directly, not the revenue, to thank them for their extra pittance. I found it amusing, so yes, thread worthy.

Try all the semantics and twist it any way you like. Revenue, or any other department, is part of government.

    A non event.

    Biased or what?????

Anybody who got employment last year doesn't give a toss if you count them as a job created or one less on the live register. All I know is all my family are now working and I haven't been able to say that for a few years.

exactly, it is not the first time an extremely pedantic position has been taken to complain about a politician and it's pretty childish

I don't why it is done as there are plenty of actual real reasons to do so!

Ah the old everything you said can be completely disregarded because I used the word semantics trick, I love that one. No need to get so hot under the collar, I pointed out an article that I found amusing.

I think you misunderstood my comment and I don't see how it could be a bias. As was pointed out by a previous poster, yes they did create jobs, I believe I thanked the post. However there was also a lot of stringent new guidelines and tactics put in place by the DSP last year to force people off the live register. Thats the big difference I was referring to.

    Best Taoiseach we've ever had.

Well I'd disagree with that but you gotta admit, there's not that much competition. If you didn't leave the position in disgrace/mired in controversy, then you're nearly there!

This is Enda Kenny who says he is a devout Catholic but on the meaning of life, didn't believe Jesus was the son of God.

People rang the government to say their payslip was wrong, this is in the devout Catholic area for him.
    Walter Mitty rules our country.

Meh, you might not be so happy if all those jobs were in Aus/Canada.

They'd still have jobs and be off the live register.

What's that all about? I was referring to them all working here.
I don't put much store by anecdotal evidence and go by what I and my family see and experience.
All now working and living here. All can pay their mortgages and are happy. That's what I judge on. You can use your own measures but they won't affect my opinion on what has been achieved in the last 3 years.

    Exits............

Historians will look back kindly on the current Government. And I say that as someone from the FF 'genepool'. We ignored the shouts of the loony left, David McWilliams and Joe Duffy callers. Really difficult decisions had to be made. Some of them were bestowed on us as a result of the IMF bailout. Others were necessary. I'd suggest that they haven't tackled the edge cases of the welfare culture that we all know exists.

We have had more development on social issues in this Government than the previous four. Some sort of legislation for the mess that was the 80's abortion referendum. An apology for the laundries. Even Alan Shatter with his work on changing the process regarding refugee cases. We'll even look back on Shatter as liberals, and know that he was a truly reforming minister of Justice.

Be careful what you wish for.

Cant believe some of the posts supporting Kenny here. Surly expert trolling?

Jobs? are you for real, any jobs in the country are being created in spite of the govt , not because of them.

Jobsbridge does not count as getting people back to work.

I fear for this country, we aint seen the worst of it yet.

One mans real life experience is anothers anecdotal evidence.

As in "I don't put much store in anecdotal evidence....but here's mine!!"

Here's another one.... My 'after christmas' cheque this year was almost €700 less into my hand than my 2011 one. (Public Service - due on all of Christmas incl C.Eve & C.Day) It was €682 less to be precise but 700 sounds way better!

    No, I didn't phone Enda..

I think the government is doing a good job overall given the mess and near fatality of the country they inherited. Looks like we will get all the money back now that was put in to the banks.

If Sinn Fein or the People before Profit crowd had their way this place would be a busted, bankrupt basket case with no prospects.

The current government has done well in my opinion that now we are back to high growth rates and emigration is falling.

Not to let them away with some incompetence but over all I think they have done well given the circumstances.

What the hell are you on about?

So it is the government's fault when the jobs all magically disappear, but when they appear it has nothing to do with the government?

    Doublethink, how are ya!?

What do you think about the conditions SME's have to function under?

And yes, govt idiocy enabled the crash, so yes they have a large part to play in the current situation.FF/FG, whatever your having.

I cant link. Just google Morgan Kelly /SME. Or just foam at the mouth at me.

I have noticed what is going on. Employment in growing, unemployment is falling, emigration is falling, highest growth rate in Europe, amongst the lowest cost of borrowing for any government in the world, highest PMI indexes in the world, beating deficit targets impressively by any measure, property prices rising, confidence indicators rising....

Now you tell me - why the hell would I take a risk on someone else to run the country when the ONLY type of recovery is under way? Why would I do that? And I have been affected just like everyone else in the recession - beaten hard.

Fact is the medicine has worked - like it or lump it. We have to get on with it.

    It ain't rocket science.

Jobsbridge/Emmigration./Race to the bottom with wages.

Getting back off the floor to your knees does not make the fastest growth rate in Europe a recovery.

Link for you PMI claim ?

Deficit Targets, are you for real???? there is an elephant in the room that the politicos so far have done their best to hide from us cause paddy is to thick to realize, so they hope..
Bank Debt. Get real. That's pathetic to even claim we are beating a deficit.

Why are rising property prices innately good? the property ladder. Conditioning my friend, your eating it up. Lets all do each others washing and see how we get on.

Confidence indicators? what the pricks that got us here are confident that can get away with it one more time and have got away with it? Thats all the confidence I see.
