It's different to any other gym I've been to so.

But do you leave it loaded because you want to be the guy that made it easier for the next person?

I've been in a handful of gyms I would say and have never considered it much of a problem and I would be one to notice bad etiquette.

I leave it loaded because I don't see the benefit in unloading it, or rather, the benefit of unloading it doesn't outweigh the benefit of leaving plates on it. In my view.

I've often left 60 KG on the bar at hip level.
I also work in the aforementioned gym.
I must be a monster according to the OP. :(

I joined a local gym here in December and I've never come across so many people clearly not arsed with who is using the equipment next. Nobody, and I mean nobody unloads the equipment. There were a couple of lads doing a leg press with what must have been 7 - 8 plates on either side. They did their sets, and walked out of the gym. Had I wanted to use that machine afterwards I would have had to unload somewhere around 100kg of weight!

I absolutely hate it and no matter what I do I can't stop noticing it, which is a problem since it's so prevalent. It's like trying not to get wound up when people don't indicate properly at a roundabout. There are weights left scattered around the machines, barbells left fully loaded in the most random and stupid places - it's a bloody mess and I really don't like the gym because of it.

There are signs up on the walls but the gym employees don't enforce it - they occasionally tidy up after everyone but it takes them so long that it doesn't happy during busy periods. I don't know if that is the norm over here but I guess that's what I get for joining a cheap gym :(

I would lose the plot and most likely get in serious confrontations if I was in your shoes. Speak with the management and explain that it's not fair to have paid the membership fee only to have to endure absolutely obnoxious and ignorant dickheads daily. You shouldn't have to play a game of fukin hide and seek with bits of equipment you need every time you go. Everything should have a place where you can easily find it, use it and then put it back. Gyms like this need to do an overhaul to their agreements stating if a member continuously leaves equipment in a messy state and generally has a disrespectful attitude that they're heading towards being banned. And thereafter, every new member should be walked through the process of being part of a gym community like a toddler so they remember to do the simplest tasks to help maintain a half decent standard of a gym. Fuking bunch of losers man.

Of course, the squat rack is the perfect place for some seated fcuking lateral raises, where else would you do them?!

    Very. Hahaha.

What really p me off is people leaving dumbbells next to benches, in-case I want to use them next ;)

If I'm on a cross trainer with headphones on, don't come over to me with a big creepy grin on your face and ask if you've seen me here before. Seriously **** off. Women go to the gym to exercise, no matter what your bros tell you.

I've seen a lot of this kind of thing. It's really sad.

    What's that supposed to mean?

It's just a Hamlet quote used as for levity.

    No offence intended.

Bah, you've got me googling like crazy now. I know that quote is from Hamlet. But I'm almost certain there's a very similar quote in The a Merchant of. Venice.

Maybe I've confused it, but I was full sure it was a very similar line in tmov, maybe "I think thou doth protest too much "

    But computer says noo.

So I guess I dreamt it

Has to be a special place in hell for the people who bench in the squat rack and then leave the bench there.
