    Yep, no mistaking it. I always check to see where it is when I first hear it. It was out between Balbriggan and Donabate still when I heard it in Dublin 5.

    I heard it loud and clear in D4. Thought it was a low-flying stobbart directly overhead. When I looked on f24, it was just passing Clonee / Clonsilla direction at 25,000. That's a whole D15 nort soide region of which I am, like, totes unfamiliar. :D:P

    I was on the plane. There were 6 aborted landings. The first announcement made by the captain was that we just attempted to land in Cork and we will now make our way to Dublin. It took 3 attempts to land in Dublin!

    The data from that night looks continuous and non-erroneous. 1 go around at SNN, turned away towards Cork, went to Dublin before reaching Mallow, 1 go around at DUB, landed the second time. Overall, 2 go arounds out of 3 attempts to land in Ireland.

    Your data appears I'm incorrect Carnacalla. It doesn't make sense to me. Does the flight path show how many times the plane pulled up at full power? As opposed to what is considered a go-around say? I'm just basing my experience on that.

    The captain announced our approach to SNN with 15 mins landing time. It was another hour and 15 minutes by my reckoning before we landed. I counted 6 full throttle ascents in that time. Just turbulence avoidance? Anyway, lots of screams, crying and phone calls to loved ones to be heard in that last hour.

    Were people really making phone calls? Been on bad turbulent flights before, one very bad one in particular that result in quite a few injuries. But no screaming or phone calls. Just gasps

    Its possible that you could have encountered a few severe gusts, the whole country had winds in Excess of 30kts at ground level at that time. The altitude was also slightly variable I noticed, as you were heading towards Dublin I noticed that it was very high.

    I recommend a trained pilot answer your questions.

    Also, the plane in question was not the one that returned to SNN a few hours later to operate the outbound flight to STN, I'd say there were a few
    marks on the seats as well as a smell.

    Edit: Phone calls? Your not allowed have your phones off airplane mode on flights as it can interfere with flight instruments on landing. Does anyone know what in particular?

    Was this a Go Around this morning? Does this happen often? I have been up at the airport a good bit recently and have never seen this, would be cool to see!

    That does look like a go around. Happens very often for a variety of reasons, I'd say at least three times a day at Dublin if you were to average things out across the year. Then would vary considerably and be a spike in them during bad weather events. Causes include strong winds, traffic not having moved off the runway ahead of them, an animal on the runway, debris on the runway, the aircraft not ready for landing due to technical or other reasons (say a passenger standing up for landing)...the list goes on.

    Ok I think the Ryanair go around MAY have been to do with United Airlines flight 22 DUB-New York still being on the runway preparing to take off but had technical issues. Taxied back to stand.

    That's very interesting. Thanks for your informative reply! Makes sense about the weather related causes but I wouldn't have thought of the other reasons. That seems like a huge amount, never would have thought there would be that many. May see one soon yet!

    Yeah mate. People were using their phones and shouldn't have been. And there would have been a few marks and smells for sure. Is it possible the plane had more serious problems I wonder? I only say this because I later spoke to a chap who had sat opposite me on the flight who is a retired AT controller and he reckoned there may have been issues with the landing gear on our first approach. He also said to me on the flight "This is not good!" with regards to lack of announcements from cockpit.

    It was strange and unnerving that the captain made no announcement at all until our approach to Dublin. That was a full half hour of not knowing what was going on. My concerns were 'Is the plane OK?' , 'Are the pilots conscious?' or God forbid 'renegade pilot'. I eventually had to shout (politely + calmly) back to the flight attendant "Can the captain please make an announcement?" which received quite a few cheers. The flight attendant replied over the PA that the captain will make an announcement when he knows what is wrong. Not helpful!

    Delivered to Continental 20 years and two months ago.

    The oldest 757 I've found so far is D-ALEA, built in 1982 and still flying with EAT / DHL out of Leipzig. Line number 9! And they have number 10 as D-ALEB.
