    FR1742 is down.
    Will the flybe get in?

Landed by the looks of it

Fair play, saved all the inbound and outbound passengers a lot of headaches.

The Flybe going straight for an approach!

As a matter of interest, do the airlines have specific "on call" contracts with a specific bus company or does someone just check around each airport etc to see who is available? Who has responsibility for arranging same?

I know some coach companies offer contingency hire at specific airports; I would assume that the airport operator compiles a list and provides this to the airlines.

I doubt that many airlines have standing contracts with operators, that would require some degree of forward planning and, more critically, cashflow in advance of emergency!

What would be the reason for this unusual path?

    A glitch in the Matrix.

Heard a really strange "whining" engine noise from a plane here near Shannon. Its a Lufthansa A321 DLH9920 and its flight path seems to be all over the shop looping all around SNN.

    What's the deal?

    Some sort of Training/testing.
Lufthansa frequently use SNN for that.

Any idea why it would have sounded so strange. I actually ran out of my house to have a look? Very high pitch whine from engines

I don't really. Maybe due to a certain climb/decent rate? The engines may be in testing?

Does the A321 have test mode for the engines? What exactly does it do?

Your asking the wrong person this question, I really don't know.

It was a test flight from Shannon Aerospace, of the west coast for a spin, I dont know about the noise you heard maybe a different throttle setting due to being light with no pax or freight. I heard it shortly before landing and I didn't notice any strange sound.

I though ILS only brings you a certain amount of the way, you need to see the last few metres by yourself?
You can leave the aircraft do an autoland, but you must be able to see the following:
Category II Operations A pilot may not continue an approach below the Category II decision height ... unless visual reference containing a segment of at least 3 consecutive lights being the centre line of the approach lights, or touchdown zone lights, or runway centre line lights, or runway edge lights, or a combination of these is attained and can be maintained. This visual reference must include a lateral element of the ground pattern, i.e. an approach lighting crossbar or the landing threshold or a barette of the touchdown zone lighting.

Never did a CAT II approach as we were only CAT I approved, but should be doing them this summer :)

From the flight numbers 4960 / 4961 I assume EI-DVJ's trip to Keflavik today wasn't a normal scheduled op?

I didn't see any around the time you posted but ART9071 (ES-SAM) left 90mins ago. Ex Meridiana EI-EZT. Repainted 2 weeks ago. Entering service now, I think.

Is the punchline something about a takeover-bid for the Aer Lingus aircraft ahead...?

I seen it 19.45, FR was saying it was at 0 ft 0mph! Can't post the screenshot as the files to big!
Just had a thought that maybe it was a glitch and it was positioning in Dub not on the strand at Portmarnock!
