Flight Ambulance International Challenger (D-AFAI) flying over Ireland at the moment. I love the livery on it.

its some form of drone anyway, but surely its strange to have one out at this time of night.

Transponder on a mountain? Mt. Pilatus is a military radar station after all. The altitude corresponds with the peak of the mountain. I wouldn't have a clue what purpose it would serve though.

some form of drone or navagation system....
skyguide (in full German: Schweizerische Aktiengesellschaft für zivile und militärische Flugsicherung,[1] English Swiss Air Navigation Services Ltd.[2]) ) is the air navigation service provider which manages and monitors Swiss airspace. Skyguide is a joint-stock company under Swiss private law which is responsible, on behalf of the Swiss Confederation, for ensuring the safety of all Swiss airspace and of adjoining airspace areas in Germany, Austria, France and Italy that have been delegated to its control. For Swiss airspace, this duty extends to both civil and military air navigation services.

37 knot cruising speed. And I thought potting about in a Cessna was slow.

I have a perfect view of Pilatus from my office and home, it really is a great sight. I took this photo of Pilatus a few weeks back from another nearby mountain.

Pilatus is fortified with military and radar installations that are not accessible to the public. There is also a military airfield nearby.

    Update from CH

There is a ton of military activity going on it seems. Skies are full of aircraft and about 12 convoys of ground units have drove past in the last hour or so.

One of the lads got called up for military service this week so I will ask him when he gets back next week.

Since it's Switzerland, they are probably practicing their neutrality :pac:
