Why would this Air Lingus have a Vir call sign?

VS879 from London to Dublin http://fr24.com/VIR879/551e19e

ITS AER LINGUS NOT AIR LINGUS. AER AER AER AER.
It probably was a case of auto correct or a typo, but it annoyed me so much. Seeing Air in Aer Lingus is just no.

Btw Aer Lingus operate Virgin Atlantic Little Red in the UK, so in the event of an aircraft going to maintence, Aer Lingus probably used a plane not repainted. I seen this plane of the little red routes recently, so it may be returning to DUB after the other plane was back in use.

Technically he/she is correct Aer is the Irish word for Air :D

    Jeez sorry.
Nice to see you hated it so much you felt the need to quote it. :):)

If you're speaking in Irish to another Irish speaking person then I see no problem with it, id hate you to meet my mother, she calls it 'scare lingus and Aer Fungus'

AURUORA BOREALIS??? AT THIS TIME OF DAY? AT THIS TIME OF YEAR?

In this part of the country? Localized entirely within your flight deck??
 Don't getcha. I've no idea when or where along the SFO-DUB route he took the photo. All the tweet from Aer Lingus said was that it was recent.

There are one or two flights on F24 this eve that will probably see the same thing. At the moment, CPA889 is probably the best bet. Aurora were/are present on the horizon to his left. Not a great night for spotting them.

    It was a Simpsons reference.

Ooh. Simpsons. Right so. That went straight over my head. :pac:

I had a look to see what other planes from HKG were taking northerly routes. Practically none but there are some very lang haul flights from there. For example, this one. 14 hours down. 1/2 an hour to go. To say I'd be itching to get off that plane would be an understatement. On a 777 too. Yuck.

I've been trying to spot that Qantas Vancouver - Sydney one which I think is something near to 16 hours. Gah!!

What difference does it being a 777 make? Genuine question.

Seat layout 3-4-3 versus say 2-3-2 or 3-3-3. Some people find the 777 seating layout cramped.

I don't think all airlines have 10 abreast seating. I'm sure I've seen 9 abreast.

I think United are currently 3-3-3 but going 3-4-3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 482 ✭✭bronn

I've always been a piggy in the middle on a 777 and my worst journey ever was Kenyan Airlines 777 AMS-NBO. It was stinking hot, very cramped and turbulent. 3-4-3 if I remember correctly. Had a peak into their business class and it was 2-3-2. Looked okay but a bit shabby. Certainly felt a lot cooler but that might've been my imagination.

I see that Qantas flight now. 16 hours in the air and about 20 mins to go.

Wait - that the Dallas flight. It's the Vancouver flight I was trying to see. I think it's ending tomorrow.

I'm the valet guy for the jets. These are the scenes outside my window.

Plus, you know, mountains and shit.

In all seriousness, the airspace is noticeably busier today.

Entirely plausible, and wouldn't take much for the majority to go along with it (the saving the planet bit)

But yes back on topic :p
