Lanzarote's annual rainfall is generally somewhere between non-existent and practically non-existent. But it can be very windy down in that general area and not just light winds.

Just 111 mm average annual rainfall, with one quarter (29 mm) of it falling in December.

It can be, but its not nor is it forecast to be.

What I meant by all canary islands have light winds is that they all have them currently

    There's regularly winds of 15-20kts

Bad weather can happen and has happened without being forecast, the forecasts aren't set in stone

All flights to/from the Canaries badly delayed today, some sort of ATC failure?

All 3 aerlingus flights from DUB/ORK/SNN didn't take off until 4pm.

There's issues with ATC in the Brest FIR which are resulting in large delays and a any flights from Ireland/UK to the Canarys that aren't going on an oceanic routing (T9/213/16) would have to go via Brest.

Also, there is heavier than normal traffic in the Canary Islands themselves which is another issue.

Both of the above presumably have led to quite bad CTOT times (slots).

The Eurocontrol NOP is useful for seeing this kind of stuff and is available to the public; just google it. :)

And on from that, the Metars are showing good weather.

Without the forecasts being bad, why are the flights delayed?

Edit: Many thanks to bkehoe, who answered my query with courtesy and politeness.

It may have been (I put my bets on Thunderstorm/Thunderstorm cloud), but the vast majority of flights landed on time between 19:50-00:00 and none had more than 1 hour of a delay. Different story this evening.

Today was hectic at Dub. That EIN13T incident was very messy. Also, the 146 from SFO vacated 16 onto 10/28 so he had to go all the way down to E6, up B, hold at H2 for 15mins, then down F. Added about 30 minutes tu the arrival. When he heard he had to go all the way around he just said "Ohhh dear" on comms! Very busy day due to the xmas traffic.

    What happened EIN13T?

So EIN13T to BOS was at D3 holding in sequence. He got line-up then after 5 minutes of waiting or so. He sits on the runway waiting for an aircraft to vacate. Tower informs RYR on a 2 mile final of his go-around instructions in case of a go, he acknowledges and continues, EIN13T was too late to roll 10 seconds later with RYR at 1 mile, so tower stopped 13T and RYR went on the go. Was very intense!

Yeah the STK21GL on the go, negative windshear of 10knots.

Getting a bit breezy alright, gusting to 40 knots now!

Missed what happened there, but anyway a Turkish gone around and loud clear voices on ATC.

    *May have been windshear*

STK21GL informing atc that this is their last approach and they will be diverting to Belfast-City in the event of a go-around

Turkish Airlines gone around as well

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 146 ✭✭Shannon Control

That was a very messy go-around. ATC very loudly issuing an evasive turn to Turkish. Windshear also.

Just curious but what is a "very messy go-around"?

    What is an "evasive turn"?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 146 ✭✭Shannon Control

The departing ryanair was just airborne with the Turkish go-around coming up on the threshold so they were told to immediately turn right whilst initiating the go.

Who initiated the go around? ATC or Turkish?

Many airlines have an SOP where if clearance to land is not received by a certain point a go around must be carried out. The pilots will only have the standard, published go around procedure briefed. Anything non standard is issued by ATC to avoid conflict.

A Gulfstream at FL470 near Tokyo is only doing 362kts as it fights 150-knot winds (FL450 chart).

And a 737 has taken off from Tokyo heading to...Tokyo! Narita to Haneda. Scheduled flight or just a positioning?

B762 aircraft with no commercial details just landed in Shannon from Bahrain it seems , would that be American military passing through ?

Thomson taking off late from Dublin to Gatwick, must be repositioning from an earlier service. Extremely interesting or indeed intriguing.

A delayed FR is inbound from Krakow, just over 4 hours late.

The Dublin flight to Krakow was diverted to Katowice and then had to return to Krakow to run the returning flight to Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,487 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Fog at Krakow yesterday meant only 5 aircraft landed in the periods of the whole day. Was watching it keenly.

EI3201 gone around on RWY28, tailwind too strong. Switching to RWY10 now, with Shamrock then requesting RWY16 and being denied that.

    Wind 140 degrees 15kts.
