Sorry, I meant Shannon Spotters on Facebook. Somebody posted up the Dubai-Frankfurt flight on that Facebook page last night ... I wondered what was the relevance for Shannon Spotters.

Then lo and behold, here she is arriving in SNN this morning. I dunno ...

There appears to be a Cathay Pacific 747-8 in Shannon this morning, "diverted" from Frankfurt, even though someone on Shannon Spotters knew last night that it was coming  ...

A GLF5 coming down from north over Ireland. Looks like it took off in Munich , out over France, up north over Ireland turned and heading back south now. At 45000ft. Strange 1??

you don't divert to an airport two hours extra on the planned destination.

    Why not?

For Frankfurt (As I'm sure you know), there's hundreds of other alternates. Shannon would likely not be in the top 100.

I notice the RAF Hawks from Valley don't show anymore.. The refueling tankers still do if you search for TARTN and MADR..

    RRR also shows other movements.

I read the post and the aircraft nerd in me immediately says.
    What airline?
    What aircraft type?
    What runway in use?
Where did the flight originate from?
    Weather reports etc, etc.

    Sad, yes I know :)

Do these things have a really low fuel range or what?

The concept of a fuel tanker in air is class yet seems a bit OTT also.

Well they're for training, mainly. Don't forget the Vulcan which made it to the Falklands with the help of about 5 tankers.

Its the same Aer Lingus A320 I get from Frankfurt every Thursday. Considering there was no exceptional weather, I was a little surprised with the rough wind.

Am I imagining it or is F24 coverage reaching further out into the Atlantic off our coast recently? In fact, I see F-EIWF1 is the top feeder in average range with 254nmi. Is there a way on F24 to see how many feeders are from Ireland? I'm sure there is but I haven't been able to figure it out. I figured it out. You go here and sort by country.

See this, for example. That's quite a ways out.

OR317 (AMS-SFB) seems to have turned back from the Atlantic, made it as far as the west clare coast and now turning north east, just passing over galway now.

Flight level dropping now, was 32,000ft, not 29,500ft and dropping.

Listening in to Shannon control now, will dump fuel.
