EI845 holding at ORK due to High winds and/or Fog.

Cloudbase now at Overcast 200ft so will attempt an approach now.

    FR905 going around at ORK.

    Reason for go-around: Windshear warning.

    Edit: Landed on 2nd attempt.

Hi all, any idea why this one flew such a strange route today?

All to do with ATC clearance. UK airspace is busy at the best of times.

Sure, but it seems to fly down into the area just north and west of Heathrow, which you'd think would be even busier than west of Birmingham or mid-Wales. Is there military airspace in the way of the direct path or something?

There is often alot of military activity in that airspace, but I'm unsure of whether that was taking place at that time.

Weather avoidance perhaps, there's airways for Liverpool and Manchester that run north from about Cardiff so this is odd enough. Mil activity shouldn't have caused this.

Big dirty noisy sounding beast of an Antonov An-12 just passed at FL21. On first hearing, I thought it might be a Cobham thing which is usually about 17/18k ft nearer. Nopes and I had the music fairly loud through the earphones.

    At Wicklow now fwiw.

Ukraine Air Alliance Antonov An-12 from Prestwick just flew past Bray at 20,000ft.

Loud bugger which prompted me to check FR24 to find out what it was.

That's some noise off her alright. Almost felt like I was back in time there for a bit. :D

    EK161 gone around

EI137 taxied too far down runway 16 to take off. Caused a Ryanair to go around too. Messy.

EI625 seemed to be holding, as was FR173. Both on approach at Dublin now.

Had the computer turned off when I heard this last night, otherwise I would have looked at FR24. Bizarre sound, reverberating in my head, that seemed to go on forever, but nothing to see (at least with clouds). Had me wondering if it was going to be in the next episode of YouTube's ""strange noises worldwide" :pac:

All flights to/from the Canaries badly delayed today, some sort of ATC failure?

All 3 aerlingus flights from DUB/ORK/SNN didn't take off until 4pm.

Weather is pretty bad from what I hear in that area last night and today.

TAFs and Metars seem okay in ACE

FR7139 just gone around at ACE now, seems I may have spoke too soon.

There was a 90 min delay on departure to TFS from SNN this morning also, must be bad down there

The weather doesn't appear to be bad at all though, Lanzarote hasn't recorded any rain this month so far! All canary islands have light winds, (Albeit southerly, therefore opposite runways with VOR and difficult approaches in place.

I'd stick with my theory of ATC delays, considering services to Maderia, Faro and Morrocco seem to also be facing Similar delays. (Almost exclusively from the UK, Ireland and Holland)

Lanzarote's annual rainfall is generally somewhere between non-existent and practically non-existent. But it can be very windy down in that general area and not just light winds.

It can be, but its not nor is it forecast to be.

What I meant by all canary islands have light winds is that they all have them currently

    There's regularly winds of 15-20kts

Well I'm sitting in LPA and I can assure you the weather is absolutely fabulous as it has been all week. Whatever the problem is it ain't the weather here. Our EI flight delayed an hour back to Dublin. Airport here very very busy.
