This is from Boeing Customer services
The subject airplane has been involved in an accident while on an international flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Caracas, Venezuela. Initial reports indicate that the airplane experienced a fire in the area of the left engine during taxi out. The airplane stopped on the taxiway and passengers and crew were evacuated via slides. Initial reports indicate that the aircraft carried 90 passengers and 11 crew members and that injuries occurred during the evacuation.

Will be interesting to see if passenger luggage was a cause of the injuries.

EI use 4 digit codes for charters. (as do Stobart operating as EI Reginal)
Extra sectors ( for matches, events, disruptions) have a 2 before the 'regular' flight number, ie, 2528,2529.
    PY sectors are usually 990-991.
    Domestic sectors were 2 digit.
They used to have country specific numbers too, ie 5xx for Spain and France, 4xx for Italy and Portugal, 6xx for Germany, 7xx for the Canaries.

However this info is 10 years old, am sure with all the new routes they have mostly dumped this system.

Still seems to be largely the case, Belfast now takes the 2 digit ones. Cork all 800 series except London which is 710/720 series. Shannon sun flights in 900 series

FR1742 gone around at NOC. Due to a strong southeasterly wind RWY09 is in use which involves a VOR approach. The cloud base is low and the visibility is wavering due to weather today. (Overcast 200ft)

Stansted flight into knock holding east of knock waiting to see if wind will drop enough to do an ILS onto 27.

Safety comes first. Pax inconvenience is not a safety issue.
