Airlines, trading floors and technology companies are braced for chaos on June 30 as world timekeepers prepare to add a leap second to global clocks.

Immediately before midnight dials will read 11:59:60 as clocks hold their breath for a second to allow the Earth’s rotation to catch up with atomic time.

You said it diverted to Shannon, but it hadn't, it was diverting.

Afraid I'm confused too :D Did it eventually divert? :p

OP said it had diverted, which implies that it was on the ground in SNN, which it wasn't, it was infact just leaving the hold. Therefore it hadn't diverted, it was diverting.

It's the same as landed and landing.

This daily mail article is less extreme than usual and even includes a video of the emergency landing inside the cabin.

It was just a small correction that wasnt meant to imply anything other than a helpful remark. Sadly that was lost due to me having to explain it. Sorry for how it came across.

    Was it necessary?

The helpful correction yes, I cannot see any problem with it.

This was my OP :"Nope hasnt done it yet It requested a diverted and now is diverting.

    Stobart still holding at 10,000ft."

I have often been told things alot harsher here and them people haven't got such a response.

Kalitta 747-200 from JFK due into SNN tonight at 0220.

The diverted Shamrock from Cork (BRU-ORK) was due to operate ORK-ALC, which will now be operated as SNN-ALC, estimated time of departures is 21:30-22:30, long day for the PAX.

Meanwhile RVR at ORK is 325m at RWY 17 (The one being used for arrivals) and 300m at RWY 35

The Indo reckons so. That or they just read this thread.

The problem that now awaits them is that the aircraft is fitted with 5 or 6 fire bottles, two would have been fired immediately, and the others would have provided a measured amount of gas until they landed.

Now they have to replace these bottles which are considered Dangerous Goods. So that aircraft will be stuck for a few days.

Durians and Mangos are commonly carried in passenger aircraft, but a few times a year they cause diversions due to setting off fire detectors.

Kilrush Lifeboat reporting that they were on standby for the Aeromexico, is thus standard procedure?
There was a DC7 (?) crash in Shannon many years ago where the aircraft landed on the water flats off the end of RWY 24. So I assume that they have had a response plan that involved the life boat since that time.

Positioning from SNN-ORK following an earlier diversion, I'd say likely without PAX.

To correct your correction, 'nope it hasn't done it yet, it requested a DIVERT and is now diverting'

I have to wonder was it an operations decision for it to fly now or was it the Captains?
If it was the Captains, i expect the poor guy will be roasted for his fuel use.

Fupping hell. I'm due out of ORK tomorrow on me hols to Lanzarote. All this fog better subside. Most likely on EI-DVM, that will do a return sector in the morning before my flight at 14:20

If your flight is full its likely that it may operate from an alternate airport?

I know the poor guy either way. He is descending now, 300m at all points.
