I fly via manchester to Dublin even though Liverpool is closer so that i can fly Aer Lingus and avoid RyanAir. The only times i use them now is if work puts me on their flights despite my objections.

Have had too many ****ups and ignorant ****e from them to use them anymore.
Off hand I've been delayed over 7 hours twice with them, 2-4hours about 5 times.

I've had one of their ground agents forced me to check in a small back pack (School bag sized) through over sized luggage because it had straps...

The straw that broke the camels back was when were boarded our 6pm flight three hours late, and then after the safety bit were told we would have to disembark as there was a problem with the plane...they promptly put another passenger load on and flew the plane to Cork. The checkin/boarding staff disappeared.

We were left in the boarding area of the airport with nothing open and no staff to be seen till about 11:30 when we were suddenly rounded up by very pissed off and aggressive armed police because seemingly someone had gone back through the security area in an attempt to find someone to tell us what the hell was going on.(Seemingly, This is a big security no-no for airports and causes them all sorts of security reviews) We were then rounded up on to buses outside and forced to stand on them for 45 minutes with no heat while the armed police did a sweep of the airport and then we had to wait till the cork plane returned and the police created a cordon for us to board at 1am when the same staff from 9pm miraculously appeared again...and we flew to Dublin

    F*ck RyanAir

I fly BA despite them being slightly more expensive because it just so happens that the only way to get directly from Heathrow (our closest airport) to our other offices is via BA, and I travel to them at least once per month. I get to keep all the lovely lovely air miles and so I keep using BA when flying to Dublin. They're a great bunch of lads.

So my meteor contract was up in November and I'm still with them.

Say I buy a new phone and want to change networks, can I get out of my current contract easily. It was an 18 month deal that began in May 2013.

I did the same when I got mine, but no one here seemed to want it so I put it back on the other thread. Are yours the 6 day or 24 hour ones? I was lucky and got the 6 day ones

If your contract was up in November you can port off the network anytime you want. However, I'd recommend going for one of the SIMO plans (on any network) if you're buying a phone independently. The networks offer pretty good deals on the SIM only bill plans now.

Ya it's really easy to get out of one my 18 month one ended last month and I switched to Tesco mobile without any problems meteor will send you your final bill for however many days you use the for of that billing period, e.g. you billing period starts on the 1st of every month and you switch on the 10th then you will be billed for 10 days. That only applies if, like you, you are out of contract if you are still in contract it's a bit different I think

That makes sense. So after the 18 months are done I'm just on a monthly rollover deal?

    Modified Android.

But has access to the Play Store as normal so all Android apps work.

+1 for sim only it's the best way to go now that they are all trying to lock you down for a year.

When I was looking last month the best plan for me was tesco mobile €25 a month gives unlimited calls, texts and 15GB of data.

When I told meteor that I was leaving they offered me pretty much the same plan except with 4G for €30 a month but I wasn't too pushed about 4G so went with Tesco

ya, but you pay more for the plan than you would for the equivalent sim only one

BTW I think they only ship to the UK so you'll have to use Parcel Motel. I used it and it worked fine, had to pay for the higher insurance which cost like 3 quid or something (by default Parcel Motel insures up to 100 euro).

thomond has claimed 1 of the invites. I have 1 more for anyone interested. They expire in 48 hours to be clear, which means you have to have bought and paid for it by then.

If anyone doesn't mind waiting a few days, possibly up to a week, longer you can get it shipped to Germany using mailboxde.com and save yourself €30/40 but parcel motel is by far the quickest way

Also when I was looking at it a lot of UK people were saying that 4G won't work, but I have had no issue with LTE / 4G here in Ireland on it with Vodafone at least. b.gud you seeing the same?

Can you keep your old number through a SIM only contract?

Ah, I was reading reports of Q1 or Q2.

I'm stuck in the past on a 3G plan so can't verify I'm afraid ;)

    Yea of course.

When your fixed-term contract expires you should phone up your provider and say you want to move to a sim-only plan rather than upgrade your phone. They'll either move you to a monthly deal or will make you an offer for a yearly one. I am on a 1 year sim-free contract cause it was a bit cheaper than a 30 day contract and I had no plans to switch from Vodafone anyway.

Well after the 18 months are over you're on the same deal but just it rolls over every 30 days, but generally these plans are better:

    https://store.meteor.ie/sim-only-plans

Then, if you ever want to go back onto a 18/24 month plan to get a subsidized phone it's far easier than signing up, you just get an 'upgrade'.

    Yup

I was offered an 'upgrade' in November. Then when I went on the website I discovered there was no bonus/benefit to upgrading compared to a new customer. I was annoyed!
