I didn't have to go!! (Joys of the old inter religion marriage). Wife's mother was adamant we were going. Wife asked me to go for her mother's sake. I told her they can both take a hike if they think I'm giving up 2 Saturdays to listen to some oul lad talking nonsense.
Thankfully our priest didn't insist on it...coolest priest ever...goes to vegas every year to play the slots and keeps greyhounds!!
I didn't either priest in the church I got married in was fairly laid back too.

Actually now that I think back, the priest who officiated was a relation of the ex, that's possibly why we got away with not doing it.

Kerry team named for Sunday.... Marc O'Se, Donaghy, BJ Keane, Darran O'Sullivan, Bryan Sheehan all on the bench!!
After 50 mins we unleash the lot on the Dubs and the poor buggers won't know what hit them

Some are balls. Some are pretty decent. Haven't heard of any being done by priests in last few years. All by lay people.

They're concentrated around preparing for marriage. Open forum around finances, children etc. Things that people should know about one another but force the discussion just in case. No religious talk aside from last 30mins when a priest appeared to talk about living a Christian life.

I loathed every minute but there's no doubt there's value in the one I did. If it wasn't run by the CC, people would think it quite decent.

Should start KD. Dubs would struggle all day with him.

Dubs bench is just as strong. Game will be won by whoever performs on the day.

Some churches insist that you do it before you can get married in that church.
    Some don't bother.

It's a course which is supposed to talk about the purpose of marriage, living together, managing finances and then religious stuff.

They have lay people at them as well as priests

Yeah we had to. But every aspect of the advice was appalling. The parental advice was impractical and pretty much against what every expert will tell you. Always pick up your child when it cries. If you weren't loved as a child you will find it difficult to love your child?!!?

The financial advice consisted of only putting your money in credit unions, never to invest in anything and only put the mortgage in both names ALWAYS. None of which is universally or even subjectively going to be the best advice.

We had one chap whose qualification was having been married for 35 years and having made a lot of mistakes. He was a nice old man initially, introduced himself one by one to each couple and wished us well. Then. He became. f**king insane. You will go to hell stuff being told to adults, no jerking off, don't bring your kids into shops that have porno mags on the shelf. Absolutely crazy.

Then there was another lady talking about sexuality, trying to explain to us how men were angry in their sex lives and female orgasms were like rainbows.

And then finally the priest at the end. Perfectly sound chap, gave us the history of marriage and a few little thoughts he says during the ceremony. All reasonable grand stuff, it was the lay people that were totally of their gords.

Myself and the misses had to go for a pint afterwards just to reflect on the insanity we had sat through. Surreal.

    Where can you buy tickets?

That's gas. Mine was entirely about compatibility and making sure you're on the same page before marriage. Pretty much no lecturing or condemnation.

Things such as how do you want to raise a kid in terms of discipline or structure your finances. Simple things but worth discussing.

It was notable for one couple getting into arguments at it as they clearly were caught entirely off guard by what the other thought.

You're only allowed use that once. It's either NZ or Mayo, you choose!

This GAA final is starting to piss me off. It is clashing with RWC games and most importantly it will overlap with the kick off of the ABs v Argentina. The OH's family are all talking about where we'll watch it. I'm screaming at them " the All Blacks are playing!!" And they ignore me. Heathens.

I will sit there watching the Dubs. Cheering them on. Then I will be the guy in the corner with my headphones in, screaming at my iPad as the real Sunday game kicks off :D

My sister made a Rugby cake for a friend, ran out of time so not what she wanted it to look like, but I think it's pretty impressive.

I think her friend is Welsh. I was more disturbed that it looks like a contested scrum. (League joke)

She got the blindside/openside flankers wrong. May was well bin it, it's worthless.

    :pac:

Nah it's deadly, fair play, say it took ages!

She's the sort of person who would have binned it if she could (perfectionist). I am the sort of person who would have rooted it out of the bin and eaten it.

Sounds similar to ours. Pretty straight forward common sense type stuff. Until you realise that what you thought was common sense never occurred to other people. We had a similar couple there that seemed not to have thought of any of the important stuff. Came out wondering if they were even going to get married after it.

Ours wasn't bad at all. In fact I quite enjoyed it. But then that was because the guy giving the class had us mock up a row and when he came to see how we were getting on he told my wife how lucky she was because I was so emotionally mature. Oh how I laughed. She didn't.

We had the pre-marriage crowd as tenants in our building, using the basement as an office.

Never met a more horrible bunch. Ice queens, the lot of them. They were horrible to deal with from a landlord perspective... A few of my mates had to do the course with them and said they were extremely judgemental and lecturing.

Speaking of pre-marriage courses, in South Korea, there are post-marriage courses where you learn about the bold thing.

There's a theme park that is for couples to go and enjoy together with demonstrations etc

    LoveLand I believe it's called.

VICE channel on youtube, though thoroughly NSFW is an excellent way to find out about how the other side of the world works btw...
