There's a new one from the ex-staff of westwood, who were command and conquer guys, called Grey Goo. I'm going to give it a shot purely on the basis that it's name is hilarious.

Does anyone here play Clash of Clans?

Rome: Total War and LOTR BFME, great times.

I actually still play BFME2 from time to time. If you spend the time modding it you can get a hell of a lot out of it.

Command and Conquer Ultimate Edition. 17 games in one from the very first Command and Conquer to the last one. Although the last few are rubbish, Command and Conquer 3 is pretty decent.

I warn you though they can be a bit addictive. I remember getting the original back in the day (mid 90s). I even got my dad hooked on it. Every now and again I pop over to the house and he's glued to it still.

I've only played their Star Wars RTS games, but they seem to be developers who are more than happy to leave their work open to modding. The 2 Star Wars games were actually pretty easy to mod and could be turned into pretty great games as a result.

I find it very refreshing that I'm sat here on a rugby forum and people are talking about PC building and gaming.

That's cool, I've a bit of modding experience. So you can give other players infractions and stuff, yeah? ;)

I refuse to buy games from developers who have the Irish branch of their company in any part of Munster.

Does that make it feel more like home?

I try to avoid "free" games with micro transactions as much as I can. The business model affects the gameplay far too much. It starts off nice and fast paced then slowly puts up time-walls around any function once you are hooked, asking for money to remove the time-walls. South Park nails it. That simpsons mobile game is apparently one of the highest grossing games.

I remember giving this game up in frustration as I found a Rohan level right before Helm's Deep hard to beat and on the Helm's Deep level you're meant to use whatever units you have left over from the Rohan level.

+1. I refuse to download any game that you have to pay to win and that kind of thing actively turns me off developers. Either let me buy the entire game for a reasonable price or support it with ads. Microtransactions should be kept for nice-to-haves, skins for the game etc.

    Which campaign, good or evil?

If you're good, fire arrows is your friend! They'll destroy the ladders, mines before you get overrun. I found evil pretty easy. Eventually you just overpower the defence.

I really think Bethesda are the form developers at the moment.

South Park really is the best satire out there.

I honestly can't remember, sure I'm already going back 10+ years so I'm surprised I remember why I gave it up in the first place!

My thoughts on the last few pages are something along the lines of...

My thoughts are how the hell do people have the time to play these games, watch vast amounts of rugby, spend a good chunk online and work full time before we even go into the rest of the mundane details that make up our lives!

    What's RTS?

    Are those ones good Thomond?

Both excellent. BFME is difficult to get as EA or the developer (can't remember) lost the LOTR licence.

Rome Total War is on Steam for peanuts, I bought it a few months ago. The Barbarian Invasion expansion pack is well worth it as it's more difficult. Trying to defend the Western Roman Empire as it's beset by rebellion and Barbarians is a lot of fun! The Alexander expansion is even more difficult.

Medieval II Total War is excellent as well! These are all old games btw so you won't need a modern PC to run them.

Throw kids into the equation and I wonder myself sometimes.

I usually play games for an hour or so in the evenings after work.

You forgot the biggest time sink...

    The missus!

Like I said, now adays I'm just a casual big-boy gamer. Stick on my ps4 every now and again for an hour or two.

Favourite RTS games are probably Total War and AoE. Have also played C&C, BFME (preferred the first) and one or two space based ones.

Spent most time on Mohaa, Cod4 and recently Csgo. Played pretty much every version of those three franchises. But those titles were easily the best from their respective franchises and the only ones that held any time.

Apart from that, GTA, skyrim, and assassin's creed are excellent. Fifa and f1 get a bit of time. Simcity, railroad tycoon and those types of game are also good.

In fact, I think I like most games.

Did anyone try Rugby 15? Supposed to be horrible.

Rugby games just make me sad. As the game gets closer to wide appeal hopefully they'll make a decent one.

Hopscotch, tig, and fast running in your slippers?

Or are you more a Connect 4, Kerplunk, Operation sort of person?
