LVG's "philosophy" has been plain and simple so far, I can't believe some of you fail to see it or still don't get it so let me break it down for you.
    • Play good players in wrong positions making them under preform and look bad.
    • Bench good players for long periods.
    • Rotate the starting elven a lot so there is no gelling or cohesion.
    • Play a 5-3-2 formation none of the players seem comfortable with.
    • Sometimes make poor substitution
    • Safety first, low risk, poor attacking football with the ball being recycled to defense a lot to maintain high levels of possession
    • Hope the opposition make a positional or defensive mistake we can exploit when we have all this sterile possession instead of imposing ourselves on them and attacking them aggressively so we force them into mistakes.
    • When all of the above fail completely ditch your "philosophy" and stick Fellaini on and lump long balls at his chest.

Then finally, give mildly entertaining interviews where you seem oblivious to all of this and the fact you have rarely picked a sensible starting line up in a good formation (4-5-1 or 4-4-2) in tandem all season even though everyone else can see the sense in trying it.

If there's anything positive to be taken from the game, perhaps it's that Herrera will be seen as a regular starter from now on?

Hopefully, good on the ball and industrious. Seems to have a bit of bite about him and looks like he will adapt to the premier league really well. Doesn't seem adverse to taking a risk and his movement once he has played a pass is excellent. I don't see him being bullied about the league.

Didn't provide the width that Di Maria did for Shaw, but he's a central midfielder, I wouldn't want him constantly drifting wide.

Wonder how Mata has been feeling the last few weeks. That now four games he hasn't started? After being the shining light in a very dull Christmas period, it seems unusual that he is the scapegoat and unable to get into the side. Struggle to see how he isn't sold off in the summer unfortunately. Another waste of immense talent at the club in recent years.

I actually think van gaal is lost at this moment and he knows it himself. the whole sitting on the sideline and not once getting up to give instructions to the players during games really bugs me.

A player plays a bad ball or a bad shot and he is immediately taking notes...whats the point?

Hoof balls again for the last 15 minutes v Swansea, its desperate to look at

Even the CL game against Roma in 07/08, we were a joy to watch.

He's never being a sideline marcher, and to be honest I don't have any problem with it. Most interesting has been the Goals on Sunday and other interviews with managers who predominantly sit down.

Koeman, Laudrup and many others around Europe. The main point being that the players have their instructions and they know what to do. If drastic change is needed then the assistant can go out and gives instructions to the players on that wing.

They also mention how the sideline marchers are normally pandering to the crowd. And I tend to agree. Plenty of former players mention how they don't hear what comes from the bench unless a sub just on tells them something, or they get pulled over during a pause in a game etc.

Think your being naive if you think the players under managers who are constantly throwing their arms around, are taking any of that on board. I'd be more annoyed if we had one of those managers who feels the need to micro manage defending from a throw in at the half way line. It's to eager beaver and crowd pandering.

I actually enjoyed the game between half time and Swansea got there second, the ball was moving around very well but final ball still lacking.

The scary thing is we've all been putting up our ideal line up since the start of the season, eventually LVG sticks that team out and it's no better than before.

We were screaming for an end to 3 at the back, then for Herrera in the team, then One of RVP or Falcao played with Rooney and now it's Rooney on his own. The team doesn't seem to play any better regardless of personnel. Another worry is LVGs substitutions still seems a bit all over the place.

We need to click and soon or we are in serious trouble.

He does seem to be making it up as he goes along. Unfortunately there's only so long he will get away with that.

Great team, but Young in for Januzaj on current form.

Januzaj shouldnt even be near the first 18 at the moment, let alone the first 11. he is playing absolutely awful.

I agree but I also feel sorry for the lad. He is just a young lad who got messed around at the start of the season. Playing him is a wing back was criminal. As a result he's is lacking confidence like all our young players. Fully believe he will go on to be a great player, United need to look after him or he could end up at a different team very quickly.

depends on who comes in first - we f8cked up big time last year by getting rid of a load of players and by the start of the season, we hadnt replaced them.

hopefully we learn from the lessons of the last 2 summers and get our business done properly and not panicking the last week of the window when alot of damage has already been done to our season.

assuming a top class RB, CB, creative CM, Nani and a striker comes in, i wouldnt be sad to see the back of Valencia, Jones, Blackett for starters anyway.

Van Gaal. But I wouldn't even wait that long - I'd give him his papers right now.

It's like it's being banged into the players' heads to never lose possession, how many times this season have we been outplayed but Van Gaal points to us having more possession post game as if it's a massive positive

Completely robotic system, rigid and predicable. We have so many creative players but they are bound to the awful system, like asking a computer to paint a master piece, it's going to be shít.

For me top 4 is Van Gaal's saving grace, if we don't get it we've gone a whole season without improving and some bizarre decisions from Louis. Giving him another season is relying on his reputation to turn it around, but did he ever have it as bad at Barca, Bayern and Ajax, didnt they play decent enough football before he came? He'll probably get another season regardless where we finish but I won't be happy with him staying at all if we miss out on CL again.

I genuinely think that if United were to let Phil Jones/Chris Smalling go that it would be a massive error tbh. The current United system/setup does nothing to help provide them with any protection or cover. If they played for Chelsea they would have Matic in front of them for instance. At United, its Fellani or Blind, neither of whom are 'defensive' centre midfielders tbh

no I don't like sideline marchers myself, but do it like fergie did it, or mourinho does it, if you see something you don't like, or a player not making enough of an effort, go out and shout at him to up his game, or take more of a risk etc

Van Persie, Evans, Blackett, Valencia. Jones is currently heading for a six-month probationary period as well starting from the beginning of 15/16 if his current form persists to the end of the season. I am very concerned that we have an agreement to buy Falcao in place if Champions League football is achieved as well as I wouldn't buy him given the price he is currently at.

Anyone - let Giggs do it til the end of the season or even try and bring Fergie back down the stairs. And line up a big name then at the end of the season. Van gaal is nothing short of a bluffer.

I'd rather go with LVG than Giggs, if your alternative was Pep or Ancelotti that's a discussion. Fergie is fantasy and is never the right move!

    As said with who?

At some stage we have to stop blaming managers and look at our players. Given nearly 60 seperate injuries and using 37 different players when not in europe and leaving capital cup early is going to cause problems.

I also think the fact he could not join till after the world cup was not ideal. I would be willing to wait and see what happens over the summer. The problems of the last number of years are not going to be rectified in a couple on months.

Considering Valencia is now almost fully converted to being a full back, and he's only a couple of months down the road with this I think he's been one of the positives from the season.

If we were relying on him as a right winger then I'd have him gone but as a Right full back, he is better than decent, strong, quick, good engine to get up and down, room to improve.

That's my point on LVG. Look at that Inter vid (I know its preseason etc). One touch, movement, forward passing.

We have regressed alarmingly since that.

We have the players to do that but for some reason they all seem incapable. Having one or two players off form is understandable and just something a manager has to live with. Having a whole team off form calls into question the manager.

AS was mentioned earlier, any number of excuses have been used. Players injuried, give him time, players needs to learn the style, players out of form. If only Rooney played here, ADM there.

The root of all this has to lie with the manager and his total inability to be able to deal with what is a worsing problem. The main issue with Moyes is that things started to get worse rather than better. The same is happening with LVG. We put up with dire performances but good results on the belief that he was building something, that things would start to gel.

Is there anybody here that thinks were are a better performing team now that in November?

Ugh, Giggs, the only constant in the 2 last coaching teams...

It was a mistake letting Moyes go and it would be a mistake letting LVG go. Even if he doesn't have the team in mind that we do a year with the players is worth a lot to building a good team.
