Not sure McNair is a natural full back personally. Hes a talented footballer, more so than most defenders. Thats what standing out tonight as opposed to his defensive abilities.

Considering his age and the fact he's only played as a defender for about 12 months its impressive and bodes well for the future. He's on a different level to Blackett.

He kinda is. Kinda isn't. Just outside the box he has been for that half, albeit against Cambridge with 71% possession.

I prefer him on the edge of the box

Yea edited the post, only got the last five mins of the first half and he fluffed a strike

I was going by the predicted formation earlier in the thread and what I watched

Rooney's pace for the counter attack was ridiculous, shame about the volley though.

Not bad so far. Fellaini very effective as a target man up front. McNair has been excellent at RB. Very positive going forward and making some nice forward runs to make space for Rooney. It's bizzare having quality on the right after some much Valencia.

2-0 up but nothing to get excited about

    still very Moyes-ball like

It's not though. There is an aim to the long balls and crosses and not done just for the sake of it. Plus autd have mixed it up quite well too.

    is that you Tony Pulis?!

I hope we don't sell Fellaini. He is such a brilliant option, especially when we need a bit of aerial threat and muscle against some of the more physical teams. He has done brilliantly when called upon over the last few months.

Mate most of Fellaini best performances for Everton were as attacking midfielder/forward he destroyed us in fergies last season playing a similar game to what he is playing tonight and people were saying ohh fergie has to sign him

Would this be good enough to mount a title challenge next season ?

    De Gea
    Clyne-Hummels-Rojo-Shaw
    --Blind or Carrick---Pogba---Di Maria-
    Mata

    Rvp or Falcao
    Rooney

There's nothing wrong with long balls if they are effective, and there's a difference between playing long balls and hoof balls.

You seem to have decided to be upset no matter what happens.

In fairness, he's right. If that's the most effective way to win a game then why wouldn't you? Yeah it's not pretty or anything but the number one aim is to win.

Agree totally. The crosses into the box have kept their defence honest and means they have to drop further and further back. Since then we've mixed it up a lot with play along the edge of the box coupled with crosses. If we just kept trying to play the ball through the middle from the start they'd be able to push out all the time on our strikers.

FFS do you think thats the long term plan or something? Its an effective tactic to use in certain scenarios.

I'm sensing a wind-up merchant maybe he should try the daily mail where he can earn red arrows for his efforts.

I'd give Van Gaal credit if this was a once off tactical change to get the job done but we've been playing like this pretty much all season minus Fellaini up front and it looks completely one dimensional most of the time against Premier League teams

well rooney has been played in midfield for how long now?

di maria up front even though he is a midfielder/winger

every single poster here agrees they are crazy decisions.

what if fellaini is our new striker now for the next few games ahead of falcao or whoever?!
