Southampton were without Wanyama and Schneiderlin. The midfield was really shown up in the 2nd half without them.

Let's hope the two lads are back for the Liverpool game in 3 weeks. :)

In pole position now, only ourselves to blame if we mess it up

Some of the teams directly below us play each other in the coming weeks and European football kicking in too, we have not got a bad run of games coming up

Koeman talked before the match about this being a great opportunity to keep Southampton's current winning streak going...

1 point between 3rd and 5th, 3 back to Spurs and 5 back to Liverpool.
But Spurs and Liverpool have a much poorer goal difference which is equivalent to them being 1 point further back.

Arsenal made their goal difference superior to United and now have a 2 goal lead.
Southampton have a 3 goal better GD than us.
    Spurs are -12 GD
    Liverpool -11 GD.

It is going to be fun and nervous at the same time.

Just seen the result, nice one Swansea.

If we can take all 3 points now against West Ham next week it will be massive for us.

I mean how it is more important for CMs than other positions. And as to when that was an unpopular opinion, well I'm not sure when it stopped being so, but this is the first time I remember so many different fans bringing it up as an important factor for them when discussing Carrick.

I'd argue striker would need as good if not better first touch but I see your point.

European football will take it's strain on those teams, they have some serious game congestion coming up.That can only benefit us.Liverpool's resurgance won't last due them depending on a pretty small squad.Spurs have the numbers but a doubt is there about the quality of some of them.
Arsenal are Arsenal, they put together a run and then can simply fall apart.
Saints are in the same boat as us so we need to string a few wins together to open some kind of gap.

I'm embarrassed at the shambles our club has become. We've spent hundreds of millions on a bunch of mercenaries who don't give a damn about the club and now we're cheering on Swansea to do us a favour against Southampton.

The old way died with fergies retirement. Football will never be the same again.

I think that is a bit extreme.

    Embarrassed
    Shambles
    Mercenaries

Why don't you tell us how you really feel.... :pac:

Seriously though, it's not as bad as all that. The reason we all wanted Swansea to beat Southampton was because they are having a hell of a good season, and are genuine contenders for a target that the majority of United fans would be happy with at the end of this season. So it's not as if we are battling with the Saints for 12th place or anything.

It's certainly an interesting time to be a United fan, what with all the change and uncertainty of the recent past, but we are on an upwards trajectory. I have faith in the management, and I've no doubt that a club of our stature will be mounting a title challenge very soon.

The old ways may have departed with Ferguson, but not all old ways are better.

    Yeah. I know right.

    No other team does this.

They all do, which is why modern football has turned to ****e.

Aside from barca no top team have any kind of long standing identity anymore. Any identity that is cited is usually marketing bs.

A little stat that's hard to fathom...

Our aggregate score with Leicester this season is 6-6 :O

Football has changed drastically in the last decade and Im not sure Fergie was happy with the way it was going. Clubs like Utd are making more money than ever before but to keep up with the pack they have to spend more money than ever to land the top tier players. People might point to clubs like Southampton as proof that it can be done without massive spending but in the long run, big money will have to be spent when the academies aren't producing the required quality.

Even the likes of Arsenal have had to change their transfer policies and over the last 2 years they have bought 2 marquis players in Ozil and Sanchez, each costing circa £40m.

Utd are up there with the most profitable clubs in the world in terms of revenue generated so we are in a better position than most to be able to splash out on the best players when we need to. As long as the money is spent on the right players, long may it continue IMO!

Are we talking about the same Barca who in the space of 5 years went from never having sponsors on their shirts to having one on the chest, one on the sleeve and one inside the jersey which can only be seen when a player pulls the shirt over his head?
Or are we talking about the Barca who are banned from signng players for a year due to dodgy underage dealing?
Or maybe the Barca who got into a serious bit of trouble with the Spanish tax man for under reporting the amount of money the actually spent on Neymar.

I don't know which Barca you hold so highly, but it definitely isn't the one playing tonight with over €200m worth of players they signed in the starting 11.

Looks like Voldemort may have had a massive say in the race for Europe. Hopefully this will be the beginning of their inevitable decline.

Louis van Gaal: "I look at players every day, I observe and I communicate with my players what I want."
LvG: "Like Januzaj, I have to compare with Mata because the next press conference you shall ask 'Why? Why? Mata is not playing?'"
"He (Januzaj) has a lot of talent but you have to perform that talent in the matches. And also in the training sessions."
I'm not making the lineup, the players themselves are making the lineup."

Mata gone in the summer I'd say.

He's simply not good enough, neither is Fellaini imo. They have a role in the squad at the moment but I can't see that lasting due to their inflexibility. Nice 1 Moyes. Your legacy lives on.

Just read a nice little fact:

Daley Blind made the most passes (92) in the Premier League this weekend. [squawka]
