What does that even mean ?

both are older than Shaw btw.

Means that if Shaw came from the youth team along with the other two, rather than for world record fee for a fullback, he wound appear the least likely to make the grade.

I'd definitely be holding on to McNair and Blackett for the next year or two , see how they develop.
And of course hold on toShaw too.

Smalling, Evans and Jones should be first to go

To answer your points in order.

Not short term at all, its about the legacy, the aura of the club. Success breeds success. Twenty million was cheap at the price.

It had no impact on future or possible signings. The past two yrs have proved that. The fact is Fergie and club seniors such as Gill felt we had an adequate squad at the time so signings were not being made.

Its not about big name, its about buying better quality than you have. Madrid never baulk at that, neither should we.

Building a strong squad breeds success. Having won the league in the past doesn't overcome deficiencies in the squad.

The past two years is still a short period of time. The money will run out eventually if we keep wasting it.

It's definitely about the big names with Madrid. They're always casting aside quality players to the detriment of their team.

    What the hell

LvG: "I said to my players, I was squeezing my ass. That is the wrong expression. I have twitched my ass, as we were out of balance."

Van Gaal: "All the games when we have played 442, including West Ham & QPR, it was always twitching your ass. I don’t like that.”

20 years since Eric kicked the Palace fan. 20

BBC 5Live has a piece on it at 7.30.

i maybe in the minority here, but to this day, i think that incident was totally blown out of proportion and Eric was hung out to dry completely. When you look at sickening incidents like the Ben Thatcher elbow, Paul Bosvelts tackle on Denis Irwin etc etc that were 20 times worse, but got a fraction of the punishment, it makes you wonder where priorities lie in football. even the Roy Keane stamp on Southgate was appaling, but because it was a fellow player and not some scumbag fan, it went unnoticed.

the man was seriously abused and set upon by a thug, it wasnt like he jumped into the crowd and randomly attacked a bunch of woman and children minding a group of sick puppies but thats the way he was portrayed.

likewise the Rio ban for 8 months, the suarez bans times two were completely OTT also and unjust, just a case of making an example out of players playing for the bigger clubs.

of course i dont expect people to agree with me and i can see why, but i think if a fan acts like a thug and abuses a player like that, he can expect to get something back.

and what an excuse to post a video of my all time favourite United goal.....same ground strangely enough on FA cup 5th round weekend.

He drop kicked a fan for fúck sake. To even suggest he was "hung out to dry" is complete lunacy.

Of course you think people won't agree with you, because deep down you know you're talking shíte.

So if some scum fan abuses a player you have no issue with the player jumping into the crowd and attacking the supporter?!

The Denis Irwin goal was every bit as good.

Had 40 or so passes in it

None whatsoever. I also don't get butthurt about bad language or players taking their shirts off.

Odd Van Gaal quotes. Won't change his terrible formation because seemingly too unhappy about risks/exciting football.

His buzzwords are philosophy and balance but Utd are dull in his formation and have zero balance. Peculiar situation given the star names.

If you've spent millions and your team are dire to watch and struggle past Yeovil and QPR, probably best to have a re-think of approach.

Alex Shaw continuously speaks the truth

Come now, Mr Shaw. Let your son stand on his own two feet. He doesn't need you pimping him out.

You don't get upset by bad language but condone dropkicking someone who essentially tells you to fúck off.

    Makes sense.

Not true ,silly internet hard man statement ,and if it is true you or anybody who behaves like this should be locked up.

But you just said your response to bad language was to jump in the crowd and kung fu kick a supporter ,I think that might be described as getting butt hurt at bad language

It's only OK to assault someone if they don't play your song in a nightclub, everyone knows that.

I wonder if LVG persistence with 532 could all be laid on a visit to Manchester's infamous golden mile

    I argued against your points:
    1 success breeds success
2 signing RVP didn't impact future potential signings
3 that Madrid don't concern themselves with buying big names

You did assert all of those points.

I just think its LVG being stubborn. Abyone can see the team is playing muck because of the formation and players position. He wont admit his 'system' is failing.

So when it boils down to it, Louis is persisting with 3-5-2 because with 4-4-2 his ass twitches as he watches our matches from the bench, and he doesn't like his ass twitching...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,299 ✭✭✭spiralism

Look guys, 5-3-2 isn't very effective atm but Van Gaal throughout his career has consistently identified and slowly implemented a philosophy and formation at a club and pushed it through, usually with growing pains, hence why his sides often struggled until the new year or so in a season. Difference with us is that we got a completely ridiculous run of injuries and as he pointed out back then, it's unbelievably hard to implement a new formation and style in matches when you're changing half your starting XI every week. He sees 5-3-2 working for us, he's identified it as the formation that gives us the best chance of winning and sooner or later he obviously feels it'll come together, like his plans usually have. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt.

He's pointed out how fragile the 4-4-2 system is and knows it can be effective but we know what it brings us and it was leaving us way too open.

Side note but that press conference was box office. He doesn't give a ****, laughing at and dismissing the journo like he's a child... brilliant. :

"do you just dismiss it all?"
    LVG: "uhh..yes"

ffs, "Ass twitch" is the same as "squeeky bum", he means that when he's played 442 he's always on edge. A little bit - hence "twitch" and not "grab".

His "grab" comment is when you are one up at 90 minutes and the opposition are launching balls into the box, anything can happen and you are sitting forward, clenching your hole tight.

the "twitch" is him saying that with 442 he's constantly nervous about surrendering possession, leading to a goal against - the threat is not as immediate, but is more constant.

With 352 he feels more secure.
