    Cars, clothes.

My wife buys everything else, sadly.

She doesn't know the meaning of "budget"!

A lot of people seem to swear by "good butchers" for meat. I've gotten shíte meat out of so many "award winning" butchers that I just don't bother any more. And every butcher that's still around seems to be an "award winning craft butcher".
Most consistently good meat I've has is Aldi specially selected steaks

I kind of agree. I haven't noticed the butcher meat being much cheaper or better than the supermarket ranges. Aldi steaks are great, as is the Angus mince meat and free range chicken.

Exactly, that's why I shop in supervalue. Superior products, good prices and Irish!!

Tbh, unless it's butter or potatoes, I regard a "Made in Ireland" sticker as a warning label these day.

A lot of the butchers dont even make their own sausages any more, seems they just buying off the bigger suppliers themselves and displaying them as their own. Where to get a decent sausage??? Cant go for these yokes for 99c a pack!!

    Unroll binbag.
Open up and place in bin.
    Gradually fill with rubbish.
Attempt to tie up bin bag and remove to external bin.
Bin bag rips and tears, rotten stuff drips on floor during transfer to external bin.

What is so ****ing hard to comprehend about that?
get a long cardboard or plastic tube , like wrapping paper core and put it vertically in the bin to act as an air vent

put bag in bin , fill as normal , then tie bag

carry bin to black bin out side , use it to flatten down the previous bins , then pour the bag in to the black bag, the cardboard air vent will remove the suction. Then give it another pounding with the empty bin to squash id down a bit more.

Do you have any self-awareness at all?

Fruit & Fibre, the budget versions get soggy too quickly.

Toilet Paper, cheap versions are like using sand paper ....ripping your arse to bits.

Chocolate, the low quality stuff is like eating wax candles.

We have the best dairy, lamb and beef production in the world. I have a farm at home so yes I'm well aware how good we are.

Bread - has to be brennans

Meat - No supermarkets please. My local butcher has his own farm and thats where the meat comes from.

Drink - Real Alcohol. No tesco paint stripper vodka.

Is there a very noticeable difference with meat from the butchers to supermarket? Is it much dearer?

It's not even close to the best. Carries quite a limited range, for starters. Have been amazed at the things I can't find there. You can't get everything you want to Aldi/Lidl, but you really, really can't get everything you want in Supervalu. It's the worst of the supermarkets for having a decent selection of even commonplace ethnic foods - I'm not talking about specialist stuff here.

And the quality of its produce is nothing special. I'd go to butchers for meat, or failing that, Aldi.
I'm pretty sure that Nox does not buy ethnic food;) Shpuds and Mate for him.

Yeah, a warning that you are buying the best produce in the world!!

Put it this way, a while back I used to share a house in Dublin with a girl from Argentina. She told me one day that she would never, ever eat vegetables back home, as she hated the taste. Since coming here, she ate a lot of vegetables as "they taste of nothing at all here".
For the most part, I agree with her.

Yes, I find I can taste the plastic from the wrapped meat you get in a supermarket, I use butchers whenever I can. I can also taste the plastic from the plastic meter milk.

Crisps are another false economy, own brand crisps are awful tasteless yolks.

And don't get me started on cheap drink… Brands all the way..
I agree with you about avoiding cheap booze but why the need for big brands?
Some very nice beers out there without the need for big marketing.
For instance, Budweiser is a big brand but it's horse pi$$
