False ecomomy - What do you refuse to buy budget versions of?

There are a few things that I refuse to budget on and it annoys the crap out of me when my housemates don't.

Toilet paper - Why budget? The cheaper stuff doesn't last as long, you need to use more and it feels terrible.
Dish Washing Liquid - just buy fairy. It lasts forever.
Aluminium Foil - Just buy the big 30m heavy duty stuff.

I will buy cheap generic knockoffs every time except for Fairy liquid, jaffa cakes and shoes.

Black bags, all the ones available in the supermarkets now are pure crap. I now buy commercial quality black bags just to remain sane. The sort you can fill and then drag across the floor, toss down a stairs or store a body in.

    Abortions.

Don't be fooled by the crowd offering "get 9 & your 10th one is free"...... The service is always worse.

I won't buy budget versions of anything. I thankfully don't need to.

    Tea bags.

Don't be coming back from Lidl with your 5 million tea bags for €3, they're that price for a reason.

Tomato Ketchup or Mayonaise. Has to be Heinz and Hellman's.

That would seem a little short sighted, what if the cheaper brand is as good as or better than the heavily marketed expensive brand?

Light bulbs. The decent ones last for years and years, the cheapo ones constantly need to be replaced.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Grant's Vodka tastes infinitely better out of a Smirnoff bottle than out of a Huzzar one.

Washing powders/gels. Budget washing powders can leave your clothes smelling like fusty balls.

Bramwells mayonnaise from Aldi is nicer I think.

Personally, I wouldn't put cheap oil in a car

Jeans and trousers in general. This is due to the cut of the trousers, it's easier to buy expensive trousers that fit well and are flattering. Cheap ones are usually uncomfortable. Same with shirts, expensive ones are usually cut better, more flattering and comfortable than cheap ones and will last longer than penneys or H&M.

With toilet paper I generally buy the "fancy" supermarket brand stuff that costs a bit extra :o

Fabric conditioner. The Lidl one smells fine when you pour it in, but leaves clothes stinky.
Shampoo and conditioner. I only end up with itchy scalp.

Cotton buds ! cheap cotton buds make me angry.

    I don't compromise on loo-roll anymore.
Went through a phase of trying all the different brands but the cheapy ones made my ar*e raw and itchy.
Now it's Cushelle all the way.

Teabags. Aldi's ones were OK but then they changed them and they're vile now.

    Cheese. Kilmeadan all the way.

    Bread.

    Ham (Only Denny for me)

    Crisps

    Chocolate

    Wine

Razor blades. I've tried every brand, but Gillette are the only company to make a good Razor. I hate having to buy them, but no other choice.

I used the King and of Shaves razors for about a year. switched back to Gillette cause they were more convenient to get. Don't even know if King of Shaves make them anymore, but I wouldn't use any other shaving gel than theirs.

Once ran out of shaving foam, thought I'd pick up a pack of disposable BIC razors and shaving foam on the way to work. Sweet Jesus they are terrible, ended up dumping the rest of the pack in the bin.

Absolutely agree. It's one thing budgeting on what kind of paper to wipe your ass with. Quite another to cut corners with something that could potentially save your life some day.

Fully agree. The stems on the cheap ones bend far too easy when you're trying to dig a bit of crud out of the ears, I find.
