I brought this to the attention of the forum a few days ago,I was castigated and called a knocker, littering is unacceptable, but particularly so from those who purport to love the countryside,it costs nothing to put them in your pocket, bring them home and dispose of properly.

While I pick up after me, I just wonder how much stock is choking? Never heard it happening.

Shoot on two permissons, 1 livestock , 1 tillage, where the farmers have told us not to leave empty cartridges around.

A bummer with the semi auto but Needs must!!!!

Well maybe u hav'nt heard of any stock choking but try this next time your out for a shot call on the farmer and ask if he minds finding empties on his land.

Obviously nobodys going to come on here defending littering, but the implications of the above post are obvious,[unless your'e told its ok]hopefully this is a minority view.No landowner is going to tolerate empty shells thrown around, plastic lasts for thousands of years in the environment, think about that before you discard them.

Excuse me but have I not posted in defence of picking up?
Maybe my post is not clear, but I have used the example of two farmers who made it clear that they want no empties left around.......... I go on to mention that using a semi in this situation is a 'bummer' as in having to find the ejected cartridges.
So let me state for the record ' no I don't have to told' and ' I as a matter of practice try and retrieve as many cartridges as possible'.

Hathcock, please remove or amend your last post as I belive I have clarified my belief and stance on this matter.

ya you were on about me and you were told why.i was having a bad day with the 20 bore.you were also told look at the rest of the videos and see did it happen.worry about your own permissions on what the farmer wants and dont worry about other lads on their permissons.as a matter of fact a lot of farmers around me ask you to leave your emptys at the gate stop tourist shooters going in.

firstly having a bad day is no excuse for littering, secondly I will condemn it irrespective of where it happens,on my permissions or anywhere else for that matter, you are on a losing battle trying to defend the indefensible.

Every thread lately someone is gettin offended and feeling like they're being attacked
Op is simply reminding people to pick up they're empties after shots.

Perhaps your attitude has a little to do with. Instead of discussing the matter and being civil you come on preaching, dictating and frankly condescending towards others that do not do as you do. In this thread alone:

    MOD NOTE

There is an air off hostility, short temperedness, and incivility creeping back into the forum. We (the Mods) tried to eradicate this some time ago and to a certain extent were successful, however it seems to be slowly creeping back in with people getting smart answers, nasty answers, uncivil answers, or no answers at all, just abuse/belittlement..

The number one rule of the forum and the site is be civil. If people cannot hold a civil tongue then we'll amend your ability to post. This is not directed at any one poster, it's aimed at EVERYONE. Normally i would have posted something in a notice style, but this thread is as good as any place to start.

Have your say, and speak your mind, but do so with respect to the other posters. Attack the content of a post and not the person posting it. If something is bothering you then report it using this icon, report.gif , on the bottom of each post (left side) and the Mods will handle it.

We have said this on numerous occasions. The forum is for you, all of you. How it feels, how it functions, and the attitude of it are all down to you. If things are allowed to return to how they were some 12 or so months ago it'll discourage existing members from taking part and new members joining up.

So do yourselves, the forum and to a degree the sport a favour and treat each pother with some respect and allow for the fact that some will have other opinions you may not approve or agree with and learn to move on.

What the man does on his permission is really only his business , if the land owner has a problem with it he wont be long about letting him know but it is not for anybody else to comment on it, i have left empty shells and casings behind me before , sometimes you just eject and reload with out thinking while you could be on to more birds , foxes or deer and you just keep moving on as the adrenaline is high, i would say most of the lads on here would be the same, you dont intentionally go out to litter but sometimes "**** just happens".

I have been civil and polite in all my posts,I have neither been hostile, short tempered,or incivil to anyone, neither have I given any smart answers,if pointing out that littering is wrong offends anyone I apologise, the way I term things is not meant to condescend,it's simply how I speak.

I think all this nit picking is gonna deter lads from putting up video's! I'm not condoning the act, but feel we all do it now and again, not on purpose but we sometimes forget ourselves in the moment of excitement, frustration, or whatever!

One thing I do know, I'd rather come on here and see some good photo's or video's of what lads managed to bag over the weekend, than lads preaching, or belittling others!

Fair enough, no harm pointing it out, but that could have been sent in a PM for a heads up for future video's etc, not to single people out, or make an example of them!

To all those who take the time to upload video's and share them with us, THANK YOU! Please keep them coming!;)

Correct. I've done it myself at some point. I could not say when or how often, but when on good shooting the last thing on my mind is litter. If i think of it i'll pick up my spent brass, and if decoying it's easy cause i'm in the one spot. However i don't do it all the time, but i never leave anything "sitting out".

The Mod Note is not directed at you/just you. This is not the only thread where these issues have cropped up. For a while the forum was running smoothly and lads were joining and participating regularly. Now i see a drop in posts from regulars and some new members spend more time reading than posting which i know is from a "fear" of being belittled, abused, mocked or simply made to feel like they cannot take part without ridicule.

The written word looses context. It's a simple fact and is so common it's covered under the rules of the site. It's why we ask people to make sure they explain their point of view in as much detail as possible to avoid such confusion. When i write things i sometimes have a tone in my head, but upon reading back i can see how it could seem as though i'm being short. So spend a little extra time and make your point clearly and concisely.

Again this is too all members.

The forum exists because of your participation. The content is only as good as what ye lads make it. If lads feel like they will be singled out for ridicule after each post they'll simply stop posting and the forum dies. Every forum, of every site is the same.

There is a fine line between taking the piss and being nasty/uncivil.

We all have thick skin so there is nothing wrong with a little messing and piss taking. If it was all serious the forum would be a drip and frankly i wouldn't want to be part of it. However we need to know when it's appropriate and secondly when some issues need a gentle push rather than a throw it in your face approach.

There is no harm bringing up some issues, and other issues will always provoke a reaction no matter how well intended the poster's meaning. The tracksuit thread was a bit of a mess. It went from a simple-ish topic to some serious attitudes. However the one thing you all need to remember, as i have to remind myself at times, is it's only the internet. IOW it can be turned off and while it's annoying sometimes the best thing to do is ignore a topic/thread and move onto something else. The problems always arrive when someone thinks they can change the minds of everyone else. It won't happen and you'll end up with a heart attack for your troubles.

    Reminds me of this:

    mAOpOOukQhd0NKLsH4eRwOa9hASVN-oFgwdEPPC_goo0JTcJ4m8vc7kzYQ84vrCslKT7bm5s1G6fdesFWpnog9WdJfuCvtvTrP8vdmLIBNXKm738aO5avbxFug

Get yer point across, argue your corner and more importantly know when to walk away from something as you can carry the annoyance/anger from one thread to another and end up being nasty without meaning to.

Yeah i called you a clown because i was just giving a lad a personal story and offering some advice which i felt would stand to him noting more than that and you accused me of putting him down which was never the case, you jumped straight in looking for a bite and fair play to you i fell for it and retaliated ,you where trolling then like you are now and when someone calls you out you play the old solder not meaning to cause any trouble..

I think the basic intention of spirit of this thread is sound.

No one has come on & said the drop shells regularly or think its the norm & if they do then that's their own business. If they do it as a matter of course then no one is going to convince them it is wrong. I know of an old boy who has been doing so for over 40 years. Try to get him to change & he is a farmer of sheep & cattle on land we shoot most days! If I am out & about I will pick up any I see to avoid conflict or arguement & I just don't like to see them personally.

The flip side is - If we were all high & mighty & worried about livestock or mother nature we wouldn't be using plastic wads as well. I don't - I use what works well in the gun for me or I can get my hands on when I need em. Have been trying Eley Grand Prixs fibre wads & they seem good but I can't get them locally so I use what I can get...

Saying that criticising littering is nit picking is quite simply wrong, it's a very serious matter in my view, and not to be ignored. Is one supposed to ignore this sort of thing in case someone might be offended? It's ethically, morally, and legally wrong to litter, there is no defending it, tacitly or otherwise. As for your dismissive attitude re this thread, the points made are valid,if you don't agree with what I said, that's fine, however the thread is as worthy of inclusion on this forum as any other.
