Jaysus, the mighty Beano on bass, haven't seen the lad in many years.

    Thanks for that.

And Barry Ruane on vocals...an old mate of mine from Baldoyle.

Beano is playing at being a rockstar in the US now.

Beano's still in Berlin, as of last week anyway

its not worth much though, is it? This is why skinheads listened to decent genres like Ska, they had no talent themselves :D

    More to your tastes?

You'd have to assume being Irish would deter them from being bad skinheads. They're hardly sitting around listening to Skrewdriver slagging off paddies.

There are racist skinheads all over Europe who don't mimic every detail of what English skinheads did/do. But the adapt the look for their own local prejudices.

They could be bad skin heads in another way though, I know up in Derry there was a group of young lads that were around for a while that were apparently involved in beating up a gay couple, and there is definitely a couple of out and out racists/white supremacists in the metal crowd in Dublin.

I've noticed an increase in skinheads in Derry over the past few years. There seems to be a small racist group and an Antifa group too, you'd spot them at the Derry matches.

I'd imagine you'd get both in Dublin too, I think there are a few skinheads in the Bohs Ultras.

    Hi all,

I live in Tempe Bar and occasionally see groups of skinheads sitting around Smock Alley theatre at night. As a lot of people use that little area for drinking I thought it might be the progression from Central Bank for the goth kids. Yesterday however I was walking on George's St and this time saw two skinheads, sitting down and blaring a skinhead song - this one from Romper Stomper.

Has anybody else noticed groups of skinheads in Dublin city centre, and do you happen to know if they are of a political persuasion or just enthusiasts of the look? The Romper Stomper song made me a bit nervous that they were not the rudebody/mod type skinheads, but trying to give the look of the NF/racist set.

Boots and braces don't make me racist! The guys you saw were probably polish/eastern european 'skins' They have nothing to do with real skin culture, music or lifestyle, they just identify themselves as nazis by cropping their hair.Baffling really when you consider that not so long ago in the big scheme of things their old mate Adolf wrecked the gaf and slaughtered countless thousands of their countrymen. Every skin worth his or her salt will have at least a few artists from the trojan recordings stable.Trojan are a ska/rocksteady label from Kingston,Jamaica.Founded and run by black peole.Im currently listening to a trojan stalwart, Denis alcapone smoking a big one *see thread 'drug dealers using club card points'* :)
But your concerns are well founded, those lads are savages,Violence is the drug of choice for these scumbags, they attack in groups like hyenas and would kick your teeth for looking at them sideways, and you should avoid them like the plague.
If you want to meet 'real skins' pop down to the Turks head on one of the ska nights, have a few beers and a good skank with us and you'll realise we are a friendly bunch :)

I'm open for correction, but I suspect this OP is causing sh1t...there's been a few skins hanging around lately and most of them seem sound. I like the romper stomper sound track and movie, I'm not a racist.

If hairstyles are anything to go by, we should fear the hipster undercut. A favourite of the SS

The skins I 've seen in Dublin so far are harmless lads. Real skinheads aren't Nazis anyways.

The NS movement in Europe laughs about the skinhead type Nazis as they are out of fashion since 80s/90s. They try to infiltrate other subcultures as Hardcore (have even their own genre NSHC - National Socialist Hardcore), Metalcore, Black Metal etc.
They misuse symbols out of the nordic mythology to express their political visions and to recognize each other. They have even their own clothing brands like Ansgar Aryan, Pro Violence etc.
It's getting more and more difficult to distinguish between Neonazis and normal guys as they are not that obvious anymore....)

Uh, I'm not sure if that applies to all of Europe, in Spain (where I am from) it's really easy to distinguish between Nazi skinheads and sharp only from their clothes once you know a little bit about the skinhead movement and how to identify them; some of them do make it quite obvious.

I have alo seen them groups of skinheads around Dublin several times but they do look really young and not threatening at all. I really hope not to see a sharp increase in racist groups in Ireland though.

@harry Bailey esq , when do them ska nights take place in the Turks Head? I would be really curious to see what the skinhead scene is like in Ireland while listening to some ska music!

I'm a skin,I'm bohs true and true.Racism is not something we would enthusiastic about.
Scumrock rovers on the other hand would be well up for it mind, wrexham frontline often make up the numbers for scumrock rovers. And them c*nts are about as racist as they come.

Thanks for the info! I live in Dublin northside so I'll make sure to check it out when I'm back in Ireland.
Would you say then that the radio show is the best way to learn about up coming gigs or are they usually posted on the Foggy Dew and Turks Head websites?

Seven deadly skins and bionic rats play fairly frequently in the Turks head.At least two or three ska nights a month, The garage in temple bar are doing ska nights too but I can't comment on the place because i havnt been to it yet. Also, there are a few ska festivals on during the summer. Skadoonvarna in co Clare is probably the best of them

Are you sure it wasn't Errol Brown from Hot Chocolate in town to do a 70's retro night? :)
