Most of the movies based on a Tom Clancy novel were one big cliché.

The Hunt for Red October was good though.

Sean Connery's Scottish Lithuanian accent was good too.

    - Cop about to retire gets one last big case
    - Said cop's new young colleague is too much of a sass-mouth for him and they don't get along but eventually bond
    - Sophisticated urban couple go for weekend away in a remote spot and the locals aren't happy about it, leading to torture
    - Every time someone goes shopping there's a long French baguette sticking out of their shopping bag
    - A high-speed chase through a city always features a stack of boxes being driven through for some reason

It's a very good film despite the simple Clancyesque 'Bad Russians' theme. You feel like you're in the subs with the actors; it's kinda claustrophobic.

Ridiculous plot twists in last ten minutes when every character has a change of heart and everyone lives happily ever after.

One Last go of what ?

There's several people I'd like one last go of, but that'd get me banned

Have you noticed how cops can never, ever get to the bottom of a murder case without having a whiskey at a strip club.

When the villain has the hero cornered but instead of killing them they spend a minute talking sh*te and the hero inevitably escapes.

One of the biggest cliches in action movies is the 'false finish' (i am shamelessly stealing that term from pro wrestling)

We've all seen it before. The hero or hero's fight the bad guy and have him beat. Looks like all is done and dusted but no... bad guy comes back for some more fighting then finally gets beaten.

Credits rolling at the end of the movie. What a clique. Somebody should shake things up and roll credits twenty mins in.

    Oh science no.

They did that for one of the spider man films, it was terrible.

Young sports team is terrible, can never win a game, big guy bullying shy kid with great talent.

Old guy, used to be great but never made it cozza injury or booze takes over

They train so hard and learn life lessons along the way

They win the big game against the big unbeatable team because of teamwork.

Big bully helps shy talented guy to get the winning score as their dads hug in the crowd.

End of the game the bully goes to shake the shy guys hand and say " hey, well done, your alright chip ".
"Thanks butch , couldn't have done it without you "

The handcuffs are always that little bit too tight. Prompting the arressted to complain while the cop looks like a bit of a maverick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,669 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

    Car falls off cliff. BOOM!!

Everyone has lost hope except for one guy. He gives a rousing inspiring speech. People pull it together and win/survive/get laid.

Samuel L Jackson rocks at that

Army characters that never follow procedure but somehow are tolerated and never seems to get thrown out of the army. The Hurt Locker is a prime example of this.

In reality they wouldn't last a day in the army I would say.

From personal experience I found they were too loose. Was in the back of a Garda car at 16 and successful squeezed them off. Was funny when the Guard saw them in the back seat as I got out.

every movie with a submarine has to include

a ) a scene where an overhead pipe bursts and the captain/hero has to stand under it like a shower and turn a handle until the spray stops
    b) a scene where the sub dives to a depth that is beyond the safety level and the sound effects have the metal groaning under the strain

Also going down to the basement at night in a power cut in a thunderstorm always seems to happen in horror films , similar to the bloke in the red top in Star Trek always getting killed first.

    Mom and dad split up!
Dad always in bad books, missing kids birthdays and stuff!
Dad ends up Hero saving the day whilst revealing Moms new boyfriend is an out and out pr*ck and Dad will usually end up, to the delight of mom and kids, punching him in his smug f*ckin' face!
Oh wait!! Did you say movies??? :pac:

Also if it's the 80's or early 90's you work a fast paced corporate job in middle-class America, which of course means you're a terrible father.

Choose one, the job or the children.
    He picks the latter.

Ah but if you've ever watched a movie from the 40's, the main character then keeps shouting "hello, hello;" down the phone while constantly pressing the receiver with his other hand...even if the person on the other end had just gone quiet, the hero has just hung up on them multiple times!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,669 ✭✭✭✭Grayson

Bombs are always given ridiculous time frames before they detonate.

And no-one ever defuses it with half an hour to go.

that's because on those old phone systems it would connect you to the operator.
