Not heavy smoker but can't quit, would E-Cig aid in any way? Also few questions.

Hey, I've been smoking for about a year and 2 months now, I wouldn't consider that a heavy smoker, I mostly smoke amber leaf (can't stand the cigarettes, it just feels awful), I smoke roughly 8-9 rollies a day and I don't smoke when I am hungover (because I immediately feel crap).

However - I tried quitting but can't, tried reducing but that didn't work, tried just stopping but didn't work too.

I am not sure why I smoke, I just do my things then get feeling - should have a smoke, guess body asks for nicotine.

Anyway, I would like to try electronic cigarettes as I hope they would help quit.

Browsing this forum I noticed people mentioning "making their own liquids for e-cigs" what is that exactly? How do you do it?

Can somebody also suggest me a good brand/type? I would like it to come with already made liquid + be able to make my own (based on how that works).

I see these brand stands around shopping centers called VIP but I don't trust them as for me - whoever pushes advertisement is usually crap because they need to promote heavily to get clients.

    Thanks.

The VIP stuff is mostly over priced crap in my opinion

Have a read at this thread, those would suit almost everybody and are not to expensive

I wouldn't suggest starting by making your own liquid.

Just buy a good starter kit and a sample pack of different flavours and see what you like.

    Hi there,
An ecig would certainly stop you smoking tobacco IMO, but you would still need the old nicotine hit so you will 'vape' as much, or more than you currently smoke.
That said, there are plenty of good shops in Dublin (and around the country) where you can go and check out the various gear. Hold it, try it and see what fits your purpose/likes.
Personally I'd stay away from starter kits as the quality IMO can be very inconsistant.
If you were to set a budget (I reckon €50 would set you up with a good ego battery and an atomiser) then posters here would have no problem recommending good kit for you to aim for. But go to a proper store first, try devices, taste different juices.
And stay away from tobacco flavours, not only are they (IMO) terrible, but they don't help to break the link between smoking and vaping. Go for a nice fruity flavour or something else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,512 ✭✭✭arleitiss

Well yeah I guess about 50 Eur would be good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,209 ✭✭✭moonboy52

copied from a thread i posted in yesterday.

If ~€65 is a price you would consider then i would go for the iStick / Nautilus starter kit:

    http://www.e-smokeireland.eu/product-p/aspireistick.htm

use coupon code - boards for 10% off. add a bottle of juice or 1 more BVC coils to bring it over €65 for free shipping.

No, its probably cheap rubbish. You could get a similar 'starter kit' in any shop in dublin for €20, I believe ecirettes version is now €15.
They will do the job....for a while, but in my experience they have desperately poor quality control.
The links previously given would serve you better.

Better off sticking to an Irish vendor - if there is any trouble they will always look after you.
    Buy Irish!!

I wouldn't bother with that one to be honest.

As suggested earlier go for the istick and mini nautilus from an Irish vendor. You'll easily be able to sell it on after a few months if you give up completely.

Right now my budget is only 40 EUR for start

@€;50 http://www.e-smokeireland.eu/product-p/aspirepremium.htm (with 'boards' coupon code)

If you can stretch to €50, this is a very good deal - VV battery and a Nautilis Mini Clearomiser tank, which is a big step up from most clero tanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,972 ✭✭✭Trond

The above is a great deal alright. Way better than some of the other kits aimed at starters.

In the context of actually giving up smoking try raise your budget it'll be well worth it.

I watched Fake Britain on BBC1 this morning & there are alot of fakes out there for newbie vapors, most of them have bad batteries & blowing up in peoples faces, just watch what you buy in Britain, pick a well known name, this program is repeated tomorrow morning on BBC2.

What are the famous brands so I can look around too?

Kanger and Evod are two well know brands but having a name on it means nothing now as all the the well known brands have been cloned by China.
The most important thing is buying from a trusted vendor, that way you will get good advise and a good product.
Depending on where you live you will get some recommendations from the peeps here about good shops to visit, they will put you right and you'll get to sample some juices before you buy.
Stay away from the franchise shops and the stalls you see in the shopping centres, overpriced junk for the most part.

Well tbh I prefer buying from Amazon as I always check user reviews.
    this for example:

Reviews are pretty good but I don't understand why it comes with two e-cigs?

One spare, so you are never waiting on the other battery to charge i guess, or to have a different juice in each of them

You've got two batteries, keep one spare. They only last a few months. You've also got to clearos, (the place you put the juice) and these also need to be replaced every couple of weeks. With this particular one you can replace the coils in the clearo giving them longer life.

So the one I linked would be good?
Also can someone explain how liquids works? Are they universal?
Say I order this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vapouriz-10ml-Cherry-E-Liquid/dp/B00ISXYW32/ref=pd_sim_d_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=1AMKJBJ0ZRX64W46R78G
along with that kanger I listed, are they compatible?
I used to think that each e-cig has it's own cartridge-like liquids?

Generally you can use any liquid you want.

Reviews are useful, but you won't find better advice than on here.

If you buy anything from thebestshop.eu e-smokeireland.eu vaperus or ezsmoke then you will not get a bad product.

Seriously, the two kits I linked to earlier would be ideal. Personally I would go with the evod kit as a cheap, easy way to start. However, the innokin set (i regularly use the big brother of the one linked) uses a usb charger that charges android phone. Grab yourself a bottle of RY4 juice and away you go.

For the money, that's a great tie in the water. If you like vaping and it does what you want, then you'll soon start upgrading, but if it isn't, then you haven't lost much.

Choosing the right juice is important, but RY4 I think is a good first choice. It is a tobacco/caramel mix and most people like it. Every shop will do their own variation of it, I think thebestshop have it in a joyetech brand.

I still recommend you should buy what i said in post #6 arleitiss.

Get something good straight away, as that gives you the best chance to stay off the fags, but it is your call.

But http://www.thebestshop.eu/shop/electronic-cigarettes-starter-kits/489-aspire-premium-starter-kit.html would be a good alternative too, to be fair :)

Get both of the items linked and you will be set.

The kit linked in Post 14 is €50. For the sake of a tenner you'd be mad to buy the one off Amazon.

Its the price of one pack of smokes when you think about it....

I ended up purchasing that Evod + RY4 liquid 11 nicotine stength.
Will see if I like it, if yes I will upgrade further.

Checked reviews of that Evod on youtube, looks pretty decent.

Also side question: I noticed guy in video used some syringe or something to put liquid into e cig tank, do I need to have one or is there alternative methods?

Most of the bottles have a needle point tip to pour it in, but to be honest even with the wider tipped bottles you can pour it into the eVod tank very easily. You just avoid the air hole in the middle! I'm doing it here on my desk in work with a fat tipped bottle and it's grand. You'll get used to having twiddly pieces of tissue EVERYWHERE!

To be honest, the filling is very easy after a go or two and it becomes part of the ritual of it, replacing the ones you have with the cigarettes!

Needle tip bottles, get them online or in any vape shop for like a euro.
You may not need them though.

It all SEEMS way more complicated than it is. There is a ton of videos and info out there but it does start getting jargonistic pretty quick at times, and that isn't for everyone.

Once you have it in your hand and get messing with it you'll be grand! It's worth doing. I got very annoyed at the whole thing several times, leaking, doing things wrong, ciggs are way easier etc, but now I'm five months off them and I ran to my car in the rain the other day and I couldn't believe how I felt. No chest wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath etc. Pretty soon all the liquids, spares, twiddly tissue paper etc doesn't matter at all, your health is the key here. Don't be worrying about an extra tenner on a purchase, it's only one pack of smokes. Hell I'll give you a few free clearos and whatever if you are totally stuck. It really, really beats smoking!

In my case unrealistic expectations really sank me. "Well I had 2 ciggs today I might as well have another." This time around I had a few fags, and used the e-cig in the car only (to stop it getting wrecked). Then I used it walking from the car to work... Then I just started using it all the time, stopped carrying a lighter etc... Was surprisingly easy with the right attitude. That said, quitting an addiction isn't all fun, it's a pain in the backside, but once you get some good results it's WAY easier. It's like learning a bunch of guitar chords, and it's tedious, then you realise you can play a load of songs you like and it's not a struggle as much any more!

Would you still keep pack of smokes in pocket while using e cig for first few weeks? You know, just in case of some breakdown or so?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,898 ✭✭✭dball

personally speaking - after about 2 weeks of vaping (I'm now 18 months without a cigarette) I went camping for a few nights and all i was concerned about was somewhere to charge my batteries. I ended up buying a charger pack, and I had more adapters for the in-car charger and extra batteries and spare everythings and spare everythings for the spare everythings in-case they broke down. Its part of the fun of vaping I find.
The day i bought my first starter kit I also threw away my cigarettes.
Just make sure you always have a spare battery charged.

Vape on - its great to be free of those stinkies!!

    Absolutely not.

    You'll never stop that way.

You buy a proper kit you won't have the urge for a 'real' smoke anyhow.

    arleitiss wrote: »

Everyone will have a different answer for this, depending on what worked. What I did was continue to have a few smokes, use the e-cig (I STILL think ifag is a waaaay better name) in the car only. I just got the car, and didn't want to stink it out. Then I used it walking to the office. Then after a day or two I used it on smoke breaks. Then I just threw my smokes out.

I think a middle ground is good, hang on to them for a week or two and get used to vaping, then cut them out and get rid of them when you're ready. Don't have an emergency break down box at all though after the initial phase, just don't have them with you and you're WAY more likely to vape.

It's not easy, but it is WAY harder on yourself to be too harsh. If you crack and smoke, it's a mistake, don't have another and get back to vaping. But do give yourself a little time to transition between the two. It'll be easier in the long run, from my own experience.

Oh as the others have said: Get spares as you go along, particularly parts that burn out (atomizers etc) and a charging cable or two with you / in the office /college wherever! It helps a lot to have a backup!

Your brain kind of 'tricks' you when you're hooked on something. "This e cig hasn't IMMEDIATELY worked, the whole thing is a farce. Have a smoke!" and so on.

Its going to take a week to get used to a wet steam vape vs dry smoke.
Took me a day or two, took a colleague a month (he's back on the smokes after vaping for 4 months and he's not happy about it).
