No there's no follow up subscription you just plug it in and work away. It works via Bluetooth so it updates you phone while the phone is in the car with the Bluetooth on, so there's no real time info when you are away from the car just the last set of stats that were uploaded.

It very different to CarPlay, that's to cast your phone's functionality to the cars multimedia screen. DataPlug gives you data about the car on a mobile app like travel time, routes, mpg and so on.

I made a post about it before. I wouldn't say I was in awe over it and functionality varies car to car but it's worth the novelty for €25.

    Previous post:
Just when you thought nothing could top the VW USB cable, I give you Das DataPlug!

Gave it a quick go when I got home but havn't registered for the add ons yet so access was limited, it tells you some stuff but not a whole lot. It's like they took everything car-net should have had and put it in a new, unrelated app. I like it in a gimmicky kind of way.

I just keep 'em coming with the stupid questions..

In the GTi, when the i lock the car, the mirrors come in and the indicators flash. However, there is no "beep".

I googled how to turn it on; go into car settings, central locking and click the "audio confirmation". However, my car doesn't have that box to tick.

I'm guessing the Mk7 Golf doesn't have that option?

Can be enabled with VCDS but only if the car has the factory alarm.

Cars that beep when locked are bit 80s and remind me of Axle Foley.

And scuff the bonnet of his pride and joy? Not likely.

Question for the engine experts here. Is there anything to be gained by fitting a performance cold air intake i.e the Apr carbon fibre system or the VW Racing line r600 system. They're bloody expensive..... but look awesome in the engine bay and produce a lovely soundtrack (IMO.....I know they aren't to everyone's taste).

Slightly better throttle response from my experience and well, mainly the sound after that. The R600 is actually quite loud for a closed system also, but definitely the nicest looking bit of kit if you want to retain the OEM look as close as possible.

Is it possible to change the high beam assist speed with VCDS? If I set cruise to 60 it doddles along at 58-59 for a while and high beams don't turn on, so I just set it to 62 but my commute has two bridges and the auto high beams are off longer than I'd like while getting up to speed. Not a huge deal, and I could do it manually...but I like auto high beams :P

No real gain in power on a standard car, slightly more induction sound, some of them look well, the Apr and Revo intakes are nice.

If you're planning on a remap they would help extract an extra few bhp.

Yes, I believe the threshold can be adjusted with VCDS, it's just a matter of finding the right parameter. I'm not sure if it's possible with Obdeleven.

    Anyone seen this before?

Haldex pump gummed up after low miles (12k or there abouts).
Might need to be an annual inspection/clean and oil change.

I have a slight rattle that seems to be on the passenger side, possibly towards the rear. Trying to figure out what it is, it's the side I got a puncture on a week after owning the car.

Checked the door was closed properly and everything. I'll check the boot and make sure everything's snug and where it should me. Only thing that would rattle around is the change in the armrest compartment but it's not that.

Strange. I thought it might have been the door because it feels like sound is louder at the rear left door as if it wasn't closed or as if the window was open a tiny bit. Checked all them too...

Check that the rear seat back is clicked and locked into position properly. Same for the rear centre armrest. And the parcel shelf, make sure its sitting snug.

Does your car have a sunglasses holder in the roof?

I had an occasional rattle that appeared to be coming from the passenger side, slightly to the rear.

After trying everywhere I eventually discovered it was coming from the holder, which I never use, and just opening and closing it whenever the rattle appeared cured it.

    Might be worth a try...

Yup, they've gone very expensive across the board.

Just priced up the spec gti pp I got Jan 2015. It was just under 42k retail and I got 3k discount with 3 free services. Same spec now is 45570 euro on the road before discount. Some price rise but I presume similar discount available?

Don't rely on the online configurator if thats how you priced it up, as it tends to be full of inaccuracies and doesn't included the delivery charge (800 odd).

No. Priced it from the latest price list itself. Didn’t realise the bargain I was getting at the time!
Lost me very little money relatively too, which I don’t think would be the case now.

I know nothing about car sales, but could the cost increase not have been absorbed by VW?
Considering it's the best selling car in Ireland surely the volume of the sales would make up for overall profit? The Golf is on the premium end of hatchbacks yet it's mad to think you can spend €30k on a Highline and it doesn't come with the rear camera. Part of me likes to think the dealer would fold and throw it in, because it's just bizarre to think it's possible to leave the factory like that...

As I said I know nothing about car sales so for all I know they could have absorbed the cost partially, but I just don't think so. Afterall this is Ireland, there's too many pockets to fill with VRT, fuel tax etc.

I'd love to know why it had to go up in price. I wonder how the rest of Europe fared compared to us. The big selling point in the UK was how the Golf is an average of £600 cheaper this year. I wonder has theirs gone up much.

Sorry, I tend to ramble when it comes to the cost of motoring in Ireland. It's heartbreaking for someone who loves cars...

On the plus side, the rattle in my car seemed to have been caused by the dash cam wire stuffed into the arm rest compartment. Part of the wire was sticking out and hitting the plastic of the passenger seat :o

    A few reasons:

    1. VWs and the Golf in particular have been selling very strong in the country for the last few years, even weathering the recent diesel gate disaster. They have been offering better standard equipment and cheap option packs more than other makes for the last few years so a creep up in prices was always on the cards.

    2. UK trim levels are generally lower but options are cheaper due to no VRT so UK buyers tend to tick more options than Irish buyers.

    3. I think the Technology pack on the pre facelifted Mk7 Golf included a reversing camera but it has been removed from the Mk7 facelift, the pre facelift Golf Highline also came with leather seats. As with any model revamp they tend to gain some things while losing other things as demand for a revamp model increases so they don't have to kit them out as much as before. As the launch of the Mk8 gets closer you will see standard equipment and special offers increase again to sustain sales of the current Mk7.5.

The rear camera is still part of the tech pack afaik. But that pack has gone up in price a fair bit! Think its about 700 euro now. I remember they were doing it for 151 euro as part of their 151 sales gimmick.

I posted this elsewhere and did not notice this massive Golf thread sorry!...

So I am thinking of buying a 2013 Golf diesel 1.6, it has 88,000 miles on it, is this a lot of milage or is that ok? The price is €12,500. It has had one owner and has a full service history, any advice would be appreciated!
