Ladies footballers under pressure v Kerry, down 0-10 to 0-5 after 25 min. Commentary pn 103fm

After coming from 6 down to lead by 2, 2 late Kerry goals put them through

That's a tough result to take. But given our results in recent years, coming from behind to lead, we had to lose one eventually.

missing the spine of the team for various reasons today, Deirdre O'Reilly retired from centre back, Rena and Breige gone from midfield, Ciara and Doireann O'Sullivan not available at centre and full forward

Will be watching in Portugal before my flight back to Cork. Hup the Rebels and beat those Waterford bastards!

Aidan Walsh going well with Duhallow last night, will be back for Kerry game. His cousin Paul looks a great prospect.

Good luck to the lads today!

I see us coming out on top as I think we have now got serious firepower up front to get the scores.

A good start is vital. If we get up and running quickly like we did against Tipp I think Waterford might find it difficult as they have had a long break/wait.

It should be a great game anyway

Great first half. Some serious skill on show for some of the points. Last couple of minutes s we could have scored 2 goals but instead conceded 2 points. Unlucky to be only drawing at ht been the better team overall. Cardigan in particular is seeing no ball at all, if we are to win he has to get more involved.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,741 ✭✭✭The White Feather

Yeah if we can get Kingston and Cadogan more settled on the ball we will win this.

Waterford are barely hanging on due to great saves and some bad misses from Cork.If we keep the same way and play going I think we will win.

It would have been a psychological blow for Cork if we had went in a point down with their free at the end of the half.Instead it ended up a blow for Waterford as they missed an easy free and its a draw.

About 3 fouls on Cork in the lead up to that Waterford goal

And a sure-fire penalty for Deise just now.

Well done, Cork. The future looks bright. The future could be red:D.

Hon the lads! Not the greatest performance but hard to look great against a very dirty Waterford team. Thought the backs were fantastic. Young Coleman is a monster of a hurler. Lehane looks shagged, was smacking the ground in anger.

Fantastic win for the Rebels! 1-15 v 0-23

Totally deserved as we were clearly the better team throughout.

Waterford were wasteful, very wasteful, even when they were playing 14.
Very surprised by the serious lack of Waterford fans at the game, it was their first game and were the bookies favourites. It seemed cork fans were everywhere in comparison.
Loved Nashs comments regarding the amount of cork fans at the end.

Corks defence were seriously good. Waterford should have been down to 14 and given the lack of discipline in the Waterford ranks it was somewhat funny to see cork get the first red.

Munster final on the way and the qualifiers are all of a sudden awash with the favourites for Liam !!

    Delighted with the win!!

Unbelievable fitness shown from Cork.Non stop running and having the man down didn't look like it showed at all.

I thought we would have too much firepower and we did. Up until recently we relied on Horgan, cadogan and Harnedy. We had to have all on song or that was it.Now we have all forwards who can score.

Today Kingston and Meade didn't too much but we had others step up brilliantly.

Loving the style Cork play now.Fair play to Waterford as they kept going even though Cork were on top. They have a problem of no plan B.

What is scary is that there are still things for us to improve on!

    Up the Rebels!!!

Cork will win the All-Ireland and destroy Clare in the Munster Final. Where will it be held? I'd love to see it in Killarney but I suppose Limerick's Gaelic Grounds is the most sensible choice for both counties. I'm sure everyone is getting sick of Thurles at this stage.

That Bill Cooper shoulder was immense. Do you all remember the one?

Kevin Moran was coming out with the sliothar and Cooper gave him a fair hard shoulder and then Lehane pinged it over to put us 2 points up in the 51st minute!

Great to see, as all we heard in the build up was Waterford were going to hit us hard and close down all the space.

To see what seemed to be mostly kids at the end pitch invasion was fantastic.Hopefully we can get a few hurlers out of them in the years to come!

    Brave prediction on both counts.

Also, you can never get sick of winning in Thurles, never!

Have to say I was looking for Kingston's head on a platter after last yrs disaster but he's played a blinder.
Plenty of room for improvement - Meade, Kingston and Cads all v quite.
Lehane's injury will go along way to deciding the Munster final.

    btw Limerick or Thurles?

You can't put a price on what that performance means for the kids and teenagers today. My 16 year old nephew was there with a big gang of his pals. His first time going without me or my brother. We brought him since he was a smallie and, to be honest, he's probably seen us lose more often than win and was probably sick of hearing our stories of great teams we saw.

We might not win munster and we might not get to an all Ireland final but those boys out on the field today put in a performance we can all be proud of. Great for these kids to start having their own stories to tell. Up the rebels. Corcaigh abú!

I remember reading Anthony Daly piece in the Examiner after the Tipp game and he mentioned that a key person for Cork would be the new Fitness Coach the former High Performance Boxing fella. If course few weeks later we got beat to Limerick, but I have to say our Fitness look super and we looked as sharp in 69th minute as we did in 1st minute

It was real blood and thunder Munster Championship hurling yesterday, great to see Cork back. Cork hunted in packs forcing Waterford back for the whole match, brilliant work rate and team spirit. Just to see that back in Cork teams will do me for this year.

that guy has nothing to do with fitness.
Deccie Sullivan of B'rock double jobbing between physio/fitness coach I believe.

How Waterford didn't mark the wing backs on Nash's puck outs? I thought Spillane's second yellow was very harsh. A free was justified punishment.. Coleman's use of the ball was very good, Good to see chalanane hold his own after the abuse he gets.. Hardnedy does some donkey work for yee, de burca seems like a man with his finger in the dam such was all the plugs he seemed to be filling.. I know Waterford were under pressure after five minutes, Cork were more up for it. Waterford should have been six down after half time.. Will Corks lack of goals cost them in the long run?

I think they have goals in them alright, Horgan was unlucky with his effort and Waterford keeper made 2 top class saves from Cadogan and Harnedy, on another day 2 of those could have gone in.
