If "Waherfur" go toe to toe with Cork we will get another great game which could go either way, but if they play the sweeper system Cork will find it very hard to play their fast running game, the only thing that will stand to Cork players is the fact that they tried the sweeper system against Tipp last year unsuccessfully so they may know how to break it down.

Waterford always earmark the championship early on.....pretty sure everyone does.

I think the point that sultan is making is that Waterford clearly sacrificed the league in order to concentrate entirely on the championship which is make or break for them this year, that cannot be said of everyone.

Everyone is always on about waterford sweeper system,
Cork an Tipp were dropping players back during last weeks game
Check out some of the screenshots in the below for evidence.

The only difference between cork and waterford is that cork actually played smart ball into their forwards, where as the big failing in waterford is that the service to forwards is poor and usually a high ball into a double marked forward.

If you think that anything in the Cork v Tipp game remotely compared to Waterford under Derek McGrath then I'm sorry but its the most ludicrous observation ever, and I'm not restricting that to hurling!

My point is that all teams drop men back the field.
The 'system' not just restricted to Waterford, tipp were trying to isolate callinan, cork only had 2 men within 60 yards of the goal for their second goal. Hardly 15 on 15 ?

There is a big difference in players dropping back and covering ground, than employing a full time, and in some instances two sweepers, if you can't tell the difference then I'm at a loss tbh. Wing forwards and midfield dropping deep but still breaking forward is not what Waterford do, nor is it anyway similar.

    Up 1-04 v 0-04 at ht

You're a point up, but it's shocking all the same, surely any Cork team should be winning this by a dozen?

15 mins into the second half, Cork went 2 points down, having been a goal up at HT.

Waterford were ahead again with about 10 left. Cork retook the lead by 2 with 4 mins remaining before Waterford drew level again in the first min of injury time, before we outscored them 3-1 in the last 5 mins.
It finished Cork 1-12 V 1-11 Waterford, a thoroughly unconvincing win for Cork, there really can be no excuses.

Sounds like Waterford deserved more from the game.

Red card for Alan O'Connor too.

Tipp up next now on June 10th. Big step up needed after today.

Argument for 4th team in Munster now.

That is a embarrassing result. A disgrace.
Dont give a hoot what anyone says, a county of Corks size should have that game well won before full time. Thats just reality.

Dublin would be us out the gate at minute

In fairness that has been the case for quite a while now and there is no sign of it changing. Gap is getting larger if anything.

Lads in all fairness- what the f*ck is going on?
I'm a Kerryman but have a good few mates from Cork and played Sigerson with a few boys starting for ye so I'm not one of the point and laugh eeijits.

Without showing too much disrespect to Waterford- the results & displays of Cork just fecking bafffle me

Board couldnt care less so appoint a management team whose record at club and intercounty is less than glorious or non existant. Management look like having no game plan and players become disillousioned and go through the motions.
Lack of leadership from players mean they wont change tactics on the field.

Looks like another year wasted already

@tis only auld football, hurlers are coming back to form so for most of the supporters that's priority.:D

We are a big enough county to be decent in both codes.

I want footballers to do as well as Hurlers.

Cork has really underachieved at Football and being honest Kerry can laugh at us and they deserve to cause their record speaks for itself.

Saw a lad last week from Newcestown playing for Cork, not a club I'd have taken much notice of before; they a 'traditional' club or have much track record at Senior level within the county?

Predominantly an intermediate club but have enjoyed a rise in standards the last few years, football too.

Tim Crowley (hurling) and Kevin Kehily (football) would be 2 of their most famous players, Crowley won 3 All Irelands and both won All Stars

Is it on a 'demarcation' line with football to the west and hurling east? Tim Crowley was a tough bit of stuff.

Only dual senior club outside the city AFAIK.

Probably, but only in recent years, an intermediate club for 10-15 years before that I think.
