simple question....do you guys clean your .22,or not?

Not all the time like my centerfire rifles. I would use a boresnake every now and then and i would do a proper clean once or twice a year or if i am going to be storing it for a while etc...

I push a nylon brush through it every 6 months or so and leave it at that.

Could have shot thousands of rounds before i cleaned mine. When i did it was a carbon cleaner, nylon brush, and patch out.

They are not an especially dirty round, and need no where near as much cleaning as a C/F or even a hmr. My attitude for my hunting rifle was shoot until i lost accuracy or as Blay said every 6 months. Whichever came first.

I completely strip and clean, even if I only fire a few rounds... I hate thinking of any firearm sitting around dirty. OCD maybe...

It depends on the barrel, standard steel barrel run a dry patch down it to push out carbon/burnt carbon every 100 rds. Then every 5000 to 10000 clean with lead remover and brush, don't go mad with the brush. With stainless match barrel the Sam as above but use lead remover and brush every 1000 rds. After the brush clean in can take 100-200 rds for the steel barrel to come back perfect and 20-40 for the stainless, the above is just my experience using 3 different .22lr nearly every week!

I use it from about February to October for rabbits, rats, vermin etc. Only fire 3 - 4 boxes a year unless doing a bit of target practice. I don't clean it after each outing.

I only clean it once a year.

When 1st November comes I give it a good annual cleaning and put it away. it usually does not come out again until about mid - February.

thanks lads,,do you have any accuracy issues after a good clean?i mate gave his a good clean,and had to fire about 30 rounds before it came right,is that normal?

It looks like I'm cleaning mine too much. Is there any danger of rust or corrosion by not cleaning so often ?

If u do like JR above, put away for several months without shooting then clean and oil barrel, but do not clean after every shoot, if it's only a few rds ( 20-30) as u will nearly defiantly do more damage than good, carbon ring in breech and wax lining from ammo add to accuracy. If ya shoot every few weeks don't clean except maybe with dry patch only from breech end, then clean properly at end of season. I know some champion .22lr shooters that have not cleaned except with a dry patch for over 5000rds and are still winning competitions !
