I think when he says Skoda in the vid he meant the Superb.
And I thought I could see the indicator before they changed lanes

It happens quite a lot at these type of roundabouts, I put it down to both ignorance and stupidity as cram has said. You can't trust half the drivers out there so that's why I always approach them with caution

While going through a roundabout in Limerick the other day (green line), a car decided to go the wrong way around the roundabout (red line). Nothing unusual there you say except that it was a taxi! Wouldn't fancy travelling with them! There was a steady stream of cars (blue line) coming through from the other side too which had to stop for the idiot.

    Today,

I must confess, I make a point of driving straight over that particular mini roundabout.
That road is the R118, the direct route from the M/N11 to Dun Laoghaire.
That roundabout is a recent addition at the junction with Silchester Rd, appearing some time during Caligula Keegan's reign in Dun Laoghaire.
The junction functioned very well before the roundabout was put there (in my opinion).
Now the majority of traffic, which was previously free flow is forced to slow significantly to navigate this obstacle.
I have heard, (anecdotal/complete hearsay) that the roundabout was put there at the request of some well connected residents of Silchester Road who disliked having to wait to get out into the flow of traffic.
Apologies in advance to those who might be offended for my blatant disregard for the law.

Do we stil post roundabout vids in this thread?
Or now that there's no chat in the dashcam thread, should they go there instead?

Had a woman in a duster cut me up on sat she went straight through the roundabout from the left lane even though the lane was clearly marked left only!

At the time I thought that it just meant he was taking the 3 o'clock exit so I gave him enough room and planned to merge in behind him. It's not unusual at that roundabout; it's busy and can be hard to get in the right lane so most people would be alert to it. I wasn't expecting a 6 o'clock exit however.

I wonder if I'd been closer and there was contact would liability have been shared? Or solely his? Would the dashcam footage have made any difference?

I suspect most, if not all, of the liability would have been attributed to you as technically he was continuing in his lane whereas you have to cross into his lane to exit the roundabout. The onus lies with you to make sure that path is clear. In the absence of road signs/markings instructing traffic which lane to use it's not illegal to do what he done.

I agree, mad as it seems, he was ahead of you all the way around and the onus would be on you not to drive into him whatever he does.

Would you indicate right if you're heading in the direction of these well drawn arrows?
I don't, but when cars are coming from the second exit, I feel obliged to so they don't pull out.
(We know going straight on at a roundabout, there's no indication until you're almost exiting)

yes of course, you should indicate right for the third exit (and then left after the second one)

And it would probably be wise to safely move into the left lane before passing the second one, just so there's no possibility of cutting someone off when it's such an ambiguous junction.

Yeah, because the 12 o'clock rule shows it after 12, just a bit.

    I wouldn't change lanes.
I'm not sure if you're familiar with that roundabout.
There are three lanes coming down. The left one is left only with hatched markings to stop you going another way.
The middle lane is for Dundrum, second exit.
Right lane is for Sandyford. (And back up the M50 I guess)

This type of roundabout (two entrance lanes but only one exit -no special lane markings) causes me several near misses per week on my drive to work...
I'd say 90% of cars use the right lane for straight ahead. It would be interesting to put up a stationary camera to see how few straight-on drivers use the left lane!

    Blue = Me
Red = Driver using right lane for straight ahead

Is there any consensus that all roundabouts should have markings to avoid confusion??
I know people should know better but that doesn't help me on my everyday commute..

Another roundabout where people do what they want when it's busy. The amount of fools that shoot down the left lane and then cut across the hatchings to head for Dundrum is unreal.

That roundabout is a bit confusing .

The fact there is a filter lane on the left on the approach would suggest to most that it is for left turn only traffic.

But if there was a collision, it would be up to the person on the right hand lane to merge safly with the exiting traffic on the outside lane.

    That roundabout needs paint.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 592 ✭✭✭wotswattage

I agree it needs paint, in fact I think all roundabouts need paint. Leave no room for ambiguity.

There is a roundabout 200m from this one in the same complex which has arrows for left only and straight ahead so drivers are automatically doing that for this one too. I reckon it was designed one way and marked another...

What's the road sign at the start of the blue line?
There's no street view available on Google.
