No harm this irrelevant, tired and dated show has had a "spanner in the works." The competition was meant for a more virginal time in Irish history, possibly 1950's.Continuing it on too long has come back to bite them on the ass.

By showing an modern, inteligent, independent woman, who also happens to be quite beautiful and, incidentally, gay, can win it?

    They must be distraught.

I'm sure the organisers knew this long ago. They do plenty of research into the Roses' backgrounds to make sure there are no nasty skeletons in cupboards that might bring the competition into disrepute. They obviously decided it wasn't an issue - and so should the rest of us.

Blimey, must keep a lookout for such establishments in future.

....so I can call An Garda Síochána and let them sort out the unruly individuals involved of course.

But presumably she will do the decent thing and withdraw.

Yeah tis only proper after all the indecent behaviour she got up to during the festival.

    Look at this for example:
    maria.jpg
Shamelessly tempting the other wimmins with her hand waving.

Indeed, I was wondering what Bill Murphy was up to myself on that page.

Its hilarious. You get to the ebd of the story before figuring out the picture.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

This is an offensive, stereotypical, ignorant comment. But it will probably raise a few laughs from others with similiar attitudes.

A compliment to Maria maybe - but it infers that (a) gay women are not normally attractive and (b) that they normally do porn.

    Just my experience:

I've only met a few lesbians in real life and none of them I found attractive - they were the real butch type - close shaved head and DM boots whereas when I stumbled across Lesbian porn (accidentally of course!) the ladies were always very attractive!

All I can saw is I did not watch ANY of this at all this year, not even the Cork Rose, which is all I tend to watch in any given years recently anyway, no not even for the Cork Rose.

I think it is a disgrace, they striped the title from a Rose not sooo long ago because it was found she had had a child.

Did this really happen??? Do you have a link to this??

You know that since 2008 the rules were changed and women who have children can and do enter.

    Little google I found this:

Belfast rose stripped of title because she was 17 - must be 18
    http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/rose-stripped-of-title-says-im-gutted-28387360.html

Sandwell rose stripped of title as she didn't want to sign the T&c's () stating she would only attend agreed/signed off events
    http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2007/05/31/tralee-beauty-stripped-of-title/

Can't find anything about a rose being stripped of a title because they had a child....
    *goes back googling*

It happened alright. 2008 is not that long ago, so maybe that event precipitated the change.

Do you have proof of this, as is the norm when posting something as fact on a discussion forum?

    He's probably referring to this
Monday night’s instalment included an admission by the Darwin Rose, Natalie Kelly, that her mother, Hazel Carroll Kelly was kicked out of the Cork heats in 1991 because she was a single mother.

    Fair enough!

    (a) A rose was not stripped of her title
    (b) That (stupid!) rule was in place then....rules are rules as they say
    (c) 23 years ago ffs....that is not now...the past is a different country as they say

Was that what you were referring to Red Nissan?

Btw, just wondering, is that rule still in place for Miss Ireland/Miss World etc? i.e. can a mother enter those comps?

I'm probably suffering from time compression, it does not seem so far away to me. Amazing.
