Very soft red, but the build up with the kick to odonohues chest, the stamp on the hand just before the red were leading to cards coming against Mayo.

To kick or attempt to kick an opponent with minimal force is a red card offence. No real doubt about it.

Ref just handed kerry the match with a bull**** decision and robbed us of a good game

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,246 ✭✭✭✭Dyr

not really surprising Mayo have either been undisciplined the whole half or trying to niggle kerry as a tactic

    Either way it just backfired

He actually missed with the kick.

Mayo are a man down and its almost double scores. Nothing going their way. Kerry should have the pedigree to hold out at this lead.

I said it a moment ago, huge halftime team talk from Horan coming up.

Are there any decent GAA refs out there?

Strike is a strike and its a red - was silly to kick out

Think the rule is strike or attempt to strike - or in this case kick

    Thats just it.
Dont give the ref any decision to make, dont do it.

Mayo being quite dirty in the game.

A kick or an ATTEMPTED kick is a straight red card

Asolutely terrible match. Players not finding their teammates on either team.

A lot of talk about Mayo's half back line but I think Walsh, Buckly & Geady have all had a good half. They are having a big influence on the game.

David Moran has been star man from the start though. I think Gibbons should be marking him and we havent seen Gibboons at all.

For Mayo, O'Connor seems to be their only forward. Freeman, Doherty and Dillion have not got involved. McLoughlin has done well for them. And Colm Boyle in the backs has made some crucial interceptions.

Dont think it was a red. It shold have been a yellow and the ball thrown up.

You can be sure a Dublin player wouldn't have been sent off for that.

Well sadly it seems this one is over as a contest. Red card aside Mayo are shooting themselves in the foot with all those wides.

Okay, I'll take that back. An absolute shocking decision. Game could be gone from Mayo now.

I fear it was anyway. TBH I'd rather not see Mayo being heartbroken in the final anyhow.

Loads of niggly cynical stuff going on and that's a red?

    Nonsense, pure nonsense.

    So here's the rule verbatim:
5.2 To kick or attempt to kick an opponent, with
    minimal force.
    .
    .
PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE FOULS -
    (i) Order offender off.
So to everyone saying it was an awful decision, what's your reasoning apart from "it's ruined the game"? Stupid by Keegan and he's probably robbed his team of a third All Ireland final in a row.

The referee can't make up his own rules - if you kick another player you go off. He made the correct decision.

A lot of the time the referees would have backed away from sending the player off and taken the "cop out" of giving him a yellow card... The rule says that if you strike you are off, with no room for discretion. And on that basis the ref got it right and took the brave and difficult decision.

However, with that sending off, I think Mayo's chances may be gone also.

    Should have been yellow.

    But stupid from Keegan.

Why should it have been yellow? Do you know the rules of the game?

He's had it coming to him for several games now , should have got red in quarter final for an incident not picked up by the cameras..ill discipline - it was the correct decision by Coldrick and he has already gave two terrible "overcarrying" decisions against Kerry.

Enjoyable game so far. Absolute stupid thing to do out of that may lad. Don't give the ref an excuse to send you off. Simples.

    Buckley has been outstanding today

  • Registered Users Posts: 982 ✭✭✭Dick Turnip

All the people saying it was a disgraceful, ridiculous decision, do they agree at least that Keegan did kick the kerry player (Buckley I think it was?)?

It was borderline and somewhat harsh in that there wasn't huge force behind it and Keegan was probably frustrated as the 2 kerry players weren't letting him go to take the free, but still it was stupid by Keegan. If I was from Mayo I'd be more pissed with Keegan rather than Coldrick.

Refs need to use common sense when applying the rule book. This ref failed in that regard.

This is a game between Kerry and Mayo. Bringing Dublin into it, especially the way you have is derailing the topic.

Correct. Absolute crap. People seem to watch tiddlywinks or some soccer hybrid anymore. Any physicality dubbed niggly or dirty. Same thing in hurling is manly

Kerry are the better team so far and with the extra man should win now as they will be able to spray the ball around like they did for the last few minutes of the half. Its going to take a huge performance from Mayo in the second half. Aidan O'Shea really needs to get into the game, he's done almost nothing in the first half.Mayo will probably need goals in the second half perhaps bringing on Barry Moran and putting him in the edge of the square would give Mayo an easier route to the scoring zone and negate the loss off Keegan to a certain extent.

Lee Keegan was incredibly stupid. He did kick out and if its in the rules that a kick or an attempt to kick and opponent is a red card then he can have no excuses however incidents like that happen all the time and are never punished.

the spirit of the game, not a bad belt - are they watching the game at all??

He can't give a yellow card because it is a strike/attempted strike
