Seeing as every other college is setting up a thread like this, I felt I should kick things off for UL. Anyone hoping for UL tomorrow, and if so, what course have you applied for? I've been accepted into BBS and am heading down knowing nobody. Anyone else in the same position?

Congratz on your acceptance, just a word from a 4th year - It is a lot easier in UL (or any college for that matter) to go without knowing anybody. You feel a lot more free and don't rely on anyone! It's all up to you to make friends :)

If you have any questions or whatever about UL, feel free to ask.

Get involved in clubs and societies. There are currently 35 clubs and 36 societies operating on campus so you're pretty much guaranteed to find something you like doing.

If you don't know anyone on campus, it's a great way to get to know people with a shared interest, and it provides options for socialising outside the usual go-to-a-pub-and-get-hammered paradigm (yes I just used the word paradigm!!). You can have a browse through the list of C&S at http://ulwolves.ie/clubssocs/ and you can also preregister there for the coming year.

There are also other extra-curricular activities happening within the different faculties. If you're a musician or singer, there's an orchestra and a number of singing groups. I'd imagine they'll be auditioning during September or October.

There's also Formula Student which is a project to design and build a motor racing car and compete with it against other universities from Europe at Silverstone during July. Facebook page for the UL project is at https://www.facebook.com/ULFormulaStudent?ref=bookmarks

I'm also heading into first year in two weeks. Already got my offer a few weeks ago to do Aeronautical Engineering. Don't know anybody in UL so I'm hoping to know a familiar face from my area

Did you get your offer in Round Zero? I'm excited and nervous about the fact I don't know anybody. Have you booked accommodation yet?

Yeah, got in Round 0. Was offered it last October after the rechecks and deferred it.

Booked Plassey for this year as I don't know anyone.

    What about you?

Wasn't expecting to get UL even though it was my top choice and campus accomodation was already booked out when I got my offer so I'm in Brookfield this year.

I've heard Plassey is brilliant craic!

That's good to hear! I've heard some bad stuff about Brookfield and wasn't sure what it's be like. Then again, you only ever hear the horror stories I suppose

What are the odds of getting on campus accommodation now?
Put my name down about 30mins after the applications re-opened.

There could be a chance that somebody cancels an earlier application made before the offers or even now if they find something better so as soon as that is cancelled you may be in!

It should be alright because Plassey will be currently processing who is and isn't taking their place. Fingers crossed for you.

I put my name down for Brookfield in case I can't get on campus accommodation, you can request to be put with first years there.
Groody was full, and I've been warned against courtyard.

Courtyard don't have any security. Brookfield has one man for the 8 blocks.

Ah, alright so. Thought you were saying it was bad.
Can't be too bad if you're going back again I guess.
    Good luck with repeats.

    - what's the internet like there?

2mb wifi comes as standard, the ping is very good. You can upgrade the wifi to 10mb for 12 euro a month
