It'll be a while before you see work starting on this :(
    Got a response from RegDesign:
To be honest there is not any progress. The preferred route was adopted and it was decided to concentrate resources on the delivery of the improvement to the N26 at Cloongullane Bridge. You can see a separate project page for Cloongullane.
In relation to the rest of the project work on this has been suspended. I will arrange to have the project page updated to confirm this.

    Regards

A good call. That bridge is lethal.

This project was supposed to be funded from the Capital Investment Plan. Funding for that bridge should be provided seperately

Don't think funding is the issue. Just organisational resources?

Is there any update on the N5 project? or was it the usual ball of smoke

    Fencing has started.
Probably commenced before EK finishes, an important, and probably the biggest scheme ever to be done in mayo.

But then we all know that EK never did anything for mayo:rolleyes:

Fencing is classified as preliminary work, done by Mayo County Council.

Actual construction by the consortium won't start until 2018, the project hasn't even been tendered yet.

Ring is some joker. Does he not remember who built the bypasses of Charlestown and Longford he drives on everytime he returns from the Dail? At least the previous adminstration upgraded most of the roads in the country, as opposed to this government who seem to only want to advance the N5.

    A year rolls by..

Fencing and hedge clearing works are continuing on this, tender documents will be issued in 2018.

Q1 2021 start at present, may be accelerated.

Is the planned N5 still single carriageway? Should do 2+2 while at it despite the lower volumes of the N5.

N5 Ballaghaderreen-Scramoge is planned as Type 1 SC. This project is planned as 2+2 with grade seperated junctions

Nearly sure all fencing and clearing has been completed since early 2017.

The N5 Westport-Turlough project has now officially gone to FULL tender: https://irl.eu-supply.com/app/rfq/publicpurchase_frameset.asp?PID=129639&B=ETENDERS_SIMPLE&PS=1&PP=ctm/Supplier/publictenders

This is about a year in advance of when it was expected. I would expect a 12-18 month tender process with construction starting Q4 2019 at the earliest.

That's a significant acceleration from the planned start date of Q1 2021.

Excellent news - delighted for Mayo. 25 km of new road (mostly T2DC) is nothing to sniff at and will help ease the impending dry spell in road construction.

Now that the road is going ahead, I've gone looking for a detailed route map and can't find any, as the links on Google are all out of date. Does anyone have one saved from when this went to planning?

I have this from years ago, judging by the fencing that was put up a few years ago I would say the Westport section is pretty accurate.

If not it's an interesting map anyway

    Key points:
The 25.5km overall length of the route consists of approximately 20.3km of Type 2 Dual Carriageway and approximately 5.2km of Single Carriageway including a section of online improvement ... 2 compact grade separated junctions, 6 roundabouts
In terms of who will tender for it, you'd have to imagine that Wills will certainly try and be involved, given that it's only down the road from where they're based.
