And this, about to f.cuking kill me. When two people (usually men) are finishing up a conversation and they move away from each other before the conversation is finished and are therfore compelled to increase the volume to compensate for the widening gap between them, resulting in them bellowing rubbish like, "TAKE IT EASY YEAH! SEE YOU SOON! ALRIGHT YEAH TALK TO YOU SOON!" - for Christ's sake what's wrong with standing beside each other and speaking at a normal volume???? Idiots!

Hate these people! Having been TA'd by them for years I have now perfected the perfect way of looking them up and down and giving a curt, "no"* when they ask if they can help.

*have to higher the tone just a tad and place a slight question sound on the end.

Equally TA when you actually need their assistance, and either they're nowhere to be found, or the one that you do find, has absolutely no interest in being there!

Worse again, you're with someone who is talking to someone else. They finish up and say their goodbyes and you begin to move away expecting them to follow and then they start off yapping again and you're in no mans land, not wanting to look like a prick standing 5 yards away on your own and not wanting to drift back and encourage them to keep talking. Arrrrghhh...drives me fcuking nuts!

What I'm annoyed with today is everyone's "fury" over this homeless man that died while sleeping rough. I agree that it was an appalling thing to happen in this day and age, but the whole 'the government should do more, rip poor man, God love him, he was someone's brother/son, ah sure it could happen to anyone, come to any of our doors".

Em. This is coming from the same people who would step across someone alive and homeless, look down their nose at people begging and who never show any compassion towards any of the less than fortunate they may pass. They're probably the ones who kick up over having methadone clinics close by, and having "that sort" in the area. But hey, any excuse eh.

'Are ya all set for Christmas?' said by almost every person I encounter in my daily life.

What's it to you? Do you actually really care? And if you do, then I can tell you how I really feel about the wanton greed associated with this time of year, but you'll need to give me a good half an hour of yout ime and by the end of it you'll be a quivering wreck rocking back and forth and trying to find the nearest bus to jump under.

So instead, I'll just say 'Ah yeah' while imagining throttling you with my bare hands

How DO you be all set for Christmas? What are the requisites?

Mmmmm yup  The entire year can pretty much be mapped out with dreary platitudes uttered by the intellectually dull morons we must share our planet with. I'm thinking of patenting a platitude calendar.

January: "did you brave the sales at all?" / "have to hit the gym now"/ "how was your Christmas?"

February: "I think we're getting our winter now alright, we didn't escape" / "well? anything planned with the OH for valentines?"

March: "we're on the upwards now anyway, weather should be improving soon"

Aprill "the days are getting a bit of a stretch now thank God"

May: "it's to be a good summer they said"

    June: "So any holidays planned?"

July: "It's great now with the kids off isn't it?"

August: "Oh it looks like an Indian summer alright"

September: "Well. Are you all set for Hallowe'en?"

October: "Nights are getting a qware cut now"

    November: Christmaschristmaschristmaschristmaschristmas!!!!

    December: as above

    ...repeat ad nauseaum.....

May: (towards the end) Well, there's our summer come and gone in two days, wha!

To add to this, the whole "ah the government should do more to help", that would involve upping taxes, lets see how much people care about the homeless then! I guarantee you it's quickly into "well it's their own fault they are in this state"
    January: "how was your Christmas?
Those heartless heathens! How dare they ask how your Christmas was, it's almost like they are making conversation or caring about you or something.

Our b.astard neighbours who leave their dog out in this weather at night. If I say anything, they may stop me being able to take her out for walks. If I report them, it's likely nothing will be done anyway but they'll know it was me. This is not trivial actually :(

Ask any one of them thirty seconds after you tell them how it was and they'll stare at you with a glazed expression, mouths gaping.

Just been blasting the commenters on breaking news about this.. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone..My family work with the homeless, not here in Ireland and we know how they are shunned by all the folk who crib now. Blame it in the govt always they cry and never a thought to feed this man, stop and chat a minute. We are in Canada where nearly 3 million live homeless on the street, many of them so ill in their minds and drug addicts who cannot be homed as they have become habituated so we care for them there. Once in Sligo I saw an old drunk on the pavement, head bleeding and everyone including a garda, walked past. Yes I stopped, made sure he had help. One lady I know makes a pile of sandwiches and stops on her way to work to give them out and chat to the men.
This man seems to gave been a drug addict so none of the shelters would have taken him in unle he was sober
IF each cared just a little for fellow himans

No not trivial but there seems nowhere else to say this! . I wage war against dogs left out and write very good letters to the owners and involve every govt dept I can so that they will do anything to SHUT ME UP!

And they know who it is and that worries me not...

I have perfected it! After my last craft fair, I hibernate. Emerge to check if Dunnes have their usual almost free fruit and veg and enjoy that outing as I sit in the cathedral by the glorious Crib a while, then the same at the friary... then home where I am alone and peace perfect peace just me and the cat and dogs and birds..
Used to be lonely then but now I love it and this means i can enjoy the hype and the street lights etc. street lights etc
I cannot go to big Masses because of allergies so will join on the internet

Christmas is what you make it and for me a Holy Time

I'm torn. She is kept chained. I take her out almost every day, although it's harder now with the dark evenings as sometimes they lock up early. But I usually manage to get her out for even a short walk. I give her a good feed too and make sure her kennel has blankets. Weekends are better - I can take her out to the forest, park, beach etc with my own dog. She can be off lead and have a good run, feed etc. Another neighbour takes her out two days a week during the week, and has her for a couple of hours and will keep her in the house for a while. So, it's not ideal but at least she has someone who cares and something to look forward to. The problem is this: if I report, the likelihood is an inspector will call, have a poke around, possibly speak to them and then leave. This will get their backs up. They are already bemused by us and our "fascination with the beast" and think we are mad, but they tolerate us as they like having people "keeping an eye" on the place. It's not really that I care what they think, but my reluctance to report comes from my fear that it might end up worse for the dog - she'd still be in the same situation but with nobody calling to her.

I think that you're doing all that you can and you've made her life so so so much better. I wouldn't report it as the dog will suffer for it. Other than the dog 'disappearing' suddenly to a very good home away from the area where she'd never be seen by the owners I can't really think of anything you could do differently.
