Funny you should say that. I work with 2 guys earning circa 32k who never opt for overtime purely because of the punitive tax rate.
A lot of low income earners are single people with no dependants, part time students etc.

quote="hotmail.com;92600568"]Nobody pays 52% of their wages on tax, usc and PRSI - it's just not true.[/quote]

Techno is correct in what they say. You pay 52% on anything you earn over 32,800. Thus their point about people not opting for overtime because of the punitive tax rate.

Same with self employed, they weigh up the benefit of earning more.

For every (extra) euro you earn over 32,800 you pay 52c in tax.

And tomorrow, Michael Noonan plans to cut the higher rate of tax for the big earners. Give me somebody with a social conscience over the fascists in Fine Gael any day of the week.

Will you see the fecking bears...this country is fastly becoming a communist haven. Those who work hard and pay taxes pay their way, then pay again for services supposedly covered by taxes and then pay again to pay for those who are not working. Its about time Noonan took his foot off their throat. Ireland is fastly becoming a country that rewards laziness and dodging whilst if you work hard and play by the rules your basically bent over a barrel and raped by the monstrous costs of taxation of both direct and indirect taxes and of paying for very poor services tha you must you face in this country.

The big earners , when the big earner has to pay for the poors creche, education, rent allowance, dole, childrens allowance and other littler perks they are nearly on the breadline with the poor..The only problem is the poor still get a medical card so they cant afford to be sick.

Its time they started incentivising people who actually get up off their asses and work

Was it last year Vinnys show did a live broadcast from outside the Dail on budget day? I recall lots of protesters interupting their reporter.

    Paschal looks like an undertaker.

A corpse would jump up and run away from him though.

Isn't it amazing how the extra €5 a month child benefit is dismissed as insignificant; yet if it was reduced by the same amount it would be 'catastrophic'?
