Considering they said they only needed permission to add backwards compatibility, I'm disappointed that in after a month they still haven't had any significant games added.

I'm not expecting all of the top games from the voting or anything specific, but I was hoping for at least some "proper" games by now.
The original list only contained one game the average gamer would consider playing.
When they said it didn't take much to get it onto the One, I was hoping that a few notable games were added by now.
Would have been nice to get through this dry patch.
The way this is going its likely the upcoming One games will hit before anything good comes to Backwards.

In fairness, backwards compatibility launches properly in winter with an initial list of 100 games with 100s added per month after that. Wait until the feature launches to the general public before being disappointed.

The dashboard preview is for Guinea pigs. We take it for a spin, kick the tyres and provide feedback. Back Compatibility is a huge feature and I'm sure MS want controlled feedback and testing before adding more games.

If there are fewer games to choose from, it's easier to get a direct comparison of performance and what people think of it, etc.

They've promised hundreds for go-live in the Autumn, with more flowing in after that. One month isn't that long to wait for a feature that at one stage was never coming.

Seems just as well they only launched it to preview users so far too, with the re-installation issue cropping up. That'd be disastrous to the feature if it was widely available.

That's what preview is for. Internal testing is on relatively minuscule amount of consoles, preview is hundreds of thousands.

Yeah, I know that, I'm referring to the poster above who is wondering why it hasn't launched widely yet.

Gears of War and Shadow Complex on backward compatibility hits preview later.

I'd assume a few more will as well.

The upcoming Gears game also includes all previous Gears games on BC as well, a nice treat.

    that is a nice treat.

i guess we can assume that this will become a normal think when a new game in the series comes out.

what would be really nice wold be to get access if you preorder so you could play through them again before the new one comes out

Any knowledge on when these games will be available? I can't seem to find them in my Games Library yet along with the other BC games I have

No one knows yet. I doubt that they'd need to push out a new console update for this, so it should just be a case of Microsoft pressing a button on their servers to make it available.

The joys of being 5-8 hours ahead of Microsoft's locale. Probably won't be able to install either game until the day is practically over and I end up tired :P

UPDATE: Shadow Complex showed up for me (downloading now), but Gears of War still not working. I'll re-insert the disc later on and see if there's any luck

UPDATE 2: I inserted the disc again and it prompted me to download an "update" worth 7.1GB. I'm going to just assume it's the game itself so as far as that, Gears of War is now downloading for me. Looks like my prediction was correct, I'm going to be asleep by the time it finishes. LOL

    Happy gaming.

Is this backward compatibility still on course for mainstream release this month? Did they say the August update would contain it?

Didn't think that they gave a date, I understood it as "Fall"

They've now said November on gamescom. Over 100 games available at launch.

Great stuff, looking forward to that.

Probably November that threshold will drop so they will co-incide.

Yep. Mass Effect worked for me.

It doesn't actually run it from the disc, it just needs the disc in the system to confirm that you own the game. It then downloads the full game from the store (as if it was a games on demand version).

You still need the disc in the system every time you want to launch the game, however.

Cheers for the reply but fully up to speed on how it works, just none of them have worked for me, Perferct Dark Zero or the Viva Pinata ones. Don't have Mass Effect.

Gears of War however did work and downloaded for me, must try the other ones again now.

They've now made the Xbox/Windows 10 streaming hidden option for 'Very High' visibile for everyone to see & use:

"*1080p/60fps Game Streaming – You can now stream games from your Xbox One to Windows 10 devices in high-res HD quality at 1080p/60fps. The new streaming capability works best for gamers who have home networks with adequate bandwidth. In the Xbox app on Windows 10, go to Settings > Game Streaming and set the video encoding level to Very High, which will then stream games from your Xbox One to your Windows 10 PC at 1080p and 60fps (frames per second)."

    More updates include:

*Right Click – You can now right-click on one of your friends and select Send Message or Invite to Party to more quickly connect with your friends.

*Notifications – Starting today, you can enable or disable notifications for when you are invited to a party or a multiplayer game via Settings > General > Party & Games Invitations.

*Recently Played – Now you will see an animated display alternately showing you how many friends have played each game along with the four most recent players. The display will then switch to show a second tile with your last played date, Gamerscore and Achievements percentage complete. If you click on the game, it will take you to the Game Hub, where you can see a list of all of your friends who have played the game sorted by most recently played along with their online status.

*Compare Achievements with a Friend – You can now compare your achievement status with one of your friends who has played the game. From a Game Hub page, select Achievements > Compare at the top right above the list of all of the achievements.

*My Games – We updated My Games to support a grid view with a jump list, where your games are now displayed in a grid sorted alphabetically. If you click on a letter, you can collapse the list and then select a specific letter of the alphabet to more quickly find a game. The list of games that are automatically discovered has been updated as well.

*Add Games – The ability to manually add games to your collection that have a link in the Start Menu by selecting My Games > Add a game from your PC has been updated with a help link to help you add games to your collection.

The team also updated the Xbox app on Windows 10 to address some issues around sign-in, localization and game streaming reported by a subset of Windows 10 users. The Xbox app on Windows 10 should automatically update to the new version when it becomes available in the Windows Store. Once you receive the update, your version number should be 8.8.6000.00000 or higher. You can verify the version number of the Xbox app on Windows 10 under Settings > General later today.

Has anyone tried Gears of War co-op that's in the preview program?

I've started the campaign but I am curious to see if the co-op still works in this backward compatible title.

No but it did try the multiplayer and it was a total lagfest.... so just like playing it on 360 there :D

Probably got flooded with people wanting the new Win 10 dash when it was announced to be coming in September.

I would say once the first couple of builds of the Win 10 Dash have gone through, and initial teething problems sorted, then they'll open it back up again.

Backwards compatibility really made people come flooding looking for access to it. Also Battlefield 4 CTE which is for preview members only begun recently and also has people looking for it.

I wouldn't like to see the amount of people looking for an invite once 10 drops if that's the case

Afraid not, they've "reached capacity" and have shut down new invites, sorry.
