Setanta have the Irish rights to the 2019 world cup. 13 games will be free to air including all Ireland and knockout games

That's not properly free to air though, is it? You can't get Setanta - or Eir Sport now - on Saorview. So you need some sort of subscription package to get it.

    What rubbish!

They have to release matches to proper free to air stations, I think?

13 games must be free to air so will be on RTE/TV3. All Irelands pool games and all the knock out games will be live on RTE/TV3.
This is the same as several previous world cups

This is pretty awful tbh. Setanta is a mess, their coverage of sport is cheap and generally rubbish.

  • Registered Users Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

I really enjoyed Setanta's coverage and highlights packages in 2011. They also broadcast a proper highlights show for the Pro12.

    Aha, thanks for the clarification!

Given the choice between Setanta and TV3, I know which one I'd prefer.

And if Eircom put a bit of cash into them over the next three years, it could be good news indeed.

Somehow, somewhere, it will turn out to be the Pro 12's fault.

How is Setanta still in business? Awful set up.

They're not, they've just been bought over by Eir :pac:

think a few players missed the first game against the Baa Baa's in Japan.

Yup, all the Leinster and Leicester players were playing their respective league finals the week before.

I'm assuming that when they talk about missing the first match they are referring to one of the warm up games against the super rugby teams and not the 1st test against NZ

Yrah, I think it's a counties representative side or something that they're missing. There's two or three matches before the first test.

Quade Cooper has signed another new deal, 3 years with the ARU, but he hasn't picked a Super Rugby team yet. Most likely Reds but he's waiting to see what happens with the coaching situation there.

He seems to be able to do whatever he wants and go where ever he wants whenever he wants. Amazing :D

The Aviva is not 'neutral' territory as it is basically a home game for Leinster and teams would be losing a fortune by giving up their home games which would be sellouts. Handy for those who live in Leinster but not so much for those in other parts of the island. Also trips to the ar5ehole of nowhere in Russia would be a) really crap and expensive for the teams and useless for the fans.

Judgement Days would have to be moved around each year to different provinces. Easily done if you rent non-rugby grounds.

I think in the end any expansion of the Pro 12 will stay well clear of England. Too many governance problems - these are teams after all that are under the RFU's jurisdiction. What happens, for example, if (don't laugh - yes I am aware of the extraordinary feat London Welsh "accomplished" of finishing a top flight season with zero wins) the London teams, after some private investment, starting to finish in the European Cup qualification places regularly? Could that mean extra spaces for England over and above the six/seven they get already? What would that do to the already limited qualification prospects of the Celtic nations? There's too many issues.
