£17.5 million for Blind feels a little high tbh, at the end of the day he'll just be a utility player imo.

I still dream that Ed will somehow someway show up with a few suitcases of Adidas cash and blow RM out of the water for James :(

Blind would, on paper, be a very usefull signing. Seemingly competent at LB, CB and CM - not really sure how good he is at any of them though.

seeing how real Madrid have just signed Toni Kroos and James Roriguez it paves the way for Vidal to join united unless someone like PSG come in from nowhere and blow us out of the water

Vidal does not seem like the type of player who would choose PSG over United tbh.

Madrid are looking to sell on a few, so aren't out of it yet (if they want him) If they sell Di Maria and Kheidra, along with having sold Morata, they'll have recouped most of their spent cash.

they will more than likely line up with

    Kroos
    modric

    Bale
    James
    Ronaldo

    Benzema

so not a chance they will be going for Vidal now, still to make that team if they don't sell is, Alonso, Khedira, di maria, jese, Illarrmendi, isco.

Is this a commonly held view? Young was an above average Premier League winger that United paid stupid money for and had 2 or 3 good games at the start of his United career when everyone, even Anderson looked like a superstar.

Yeah, the idea that Young was a proven superstar when United signed him just isn't true. He was successful for Villa but wasn't the level United should have been looking at.

I remember at the time thinking that it was a Dwight Yorke type of signing. When Dwight Yorke was signed he was seen as a good player but not in the same league as other targets such as Shearer or Collymore. Of course he then stepped up to the challenge and became a fabulous player for us.

I think Fergie saw Ashley Young as the same type of risk, a telanted player who could move to the next level given the opportunity at a major club. I can even understand why he thought that, but for whatever reason it simply hasn't happened.

Yeah but like I said it's a dream signing, and as part of my dream Ed is thinking that since he has a huge amount of guaranteed money coming his way why not throw it at a world class player who is available and still extremely young. Not to mention £60-70 million would still be within our ''war chest'' budget for this Summer ;)

And to add some sort of sensibility to it all, if player prices continue to increase year on year, and if James Rodriguez fulfils at least some of his potential, then he'll be worth a hell of a lot more than £59 million in 5-7 years. He'll probably look somewhat like a bargain at that price in fact.

Felt Young was a handy enough player but never found him to be near United quality. Was baffled by the price we paid for him.

What attributes he had at Villa he hasn't really carried here, he seems afraid to take on players now, always stopping and cutting back and crossing into positions where RVP and Rooney were seconds ago.

I think one of the biggest hindrances to young at united was the lack of space he finds himself with when attacking.
At villa it seemed he was most effective against top opposition when he was playing on counter attack, allowing him space to get his head up and to find someone in space. I think he had the most assists in the league before he joined.

But I never really saw him with anything much more than getting a good cross in.

And at united when teams are parked at the back, he's ran out of ideas, or whipped in crosses to a packed box.

That may be bo!!ox, just my observation, but he really is nowhere near united standard.

vitally important to make champions league next season, as prize money is up 22%, so id imagine LVG will be looking for a small squad this season, like Liverpool had last season, expect lots of players to leave and a couple more quality players in.

If they get champions league next season, income guaranteed before gate receipts

    Adidas 75m
    Cheverlot 56m
    Europe 60m
    Aon training ground 23m
    Other sponsors 30-40m????

that is a serious amount of income, add to that man Utd back in Europe with one of the best managers around, good times ahead

Statements like these really make me wonder what people are expecting this season? Its like they are so happy to be rid of Moyes they have went overboard in the other direction, Van Gaal is now our lord and saviour who can do no wrong and everything that happens is all part of some master plan.

Its not true of course. He could well turn out to be very successful but statements like that above are just stupid.

Did you read the context of the post or were you just popping in to have a crack at someone as usual. You must be a pain in real life. I was referring to his transfer behaviour, obvo.

He played brilliant on CM during their home win against Barcelona this season ... He's a bit of an all rounder alright ... doing loads of exercise to gain body mass in the past seasons which made him better and better

He has a few years contract left what makes him more expensive ... But 20 million seems a bit much

    Total spend - £37m

    Total income - £12m

Faith in CEO - 30% (+15% on last year)

30% really? I can understand his rating last year but he's been decent to good so far this year. GOT LVG a top rung manager, got herrera shaw and mata. 750M adidas deal

I would be delighted if we signed Blind to be honest. They type of player that we could find on the team sheet in a number of positions for whatever reason and say (yep, he'll do a job there).

I'm not certain he'd be happy to come to United as a squad member as I doubt he'd be first choice in any of the positions he could fill (unless we don't sign Vidal or another CM)

PSG can't,they want Di Maria and have to sell in order to buy him,at last FFP is showing it's worth.

Said it on here before the world cup that hes a really really good steady player, saw him live 3 times over last 2 seasons and he was best player on pitch in all games, 1 at left back and two centre mid, if you could get him for 12-15m I would be delighted, talks that barca are in for him as well mind.

If there is no development this week I'd be worried Vidal is waiting for another team to come in

The quotes from everyone at Juve are indicating that if he wants to go and they get a good enough offer, they will sell

I have resigned myself to the fact that were not getting him, think we should all do the same, if it were to happen then it would be great but cant see it.

all I will say is the bookies have him 1/12 on to join united, they don't often get it wrong

Thats based on people betting on it though, isnt it?. Doesn't make it reliable.

They aren't wrong. The odds are reflective of people betting on him going to United. If every bookie suspended betting then you can get excited

Really wouldnt take any notice of betting odds to be honest - remeber Sneijder being 1/25 to join us at one stage, all it takes is one link to Bayern and the odds will quickly reverse.

Not being negative and would be very pleasantly surprised if he was to sign.

All that tells us is that people have been betting on it. It has zero predictive power.

I can't think of a player we've needed more than Vidal in the past 5 years. I think the club are doing everything they can to get him. There has been too much smoke coming from the Italian/Chile side of things for it to be a complete fabrication.

This reported knee injury of his might be a sticking point though. He was rushed back from his rehab to be ready for the World Cup which wouldn't have helped matters. Vidal has such an energetic gung-ho playing style that a questionable knee injury might leave us in a Hargreaves type situation.

ah nothing I can do about that, like I said it was agreed with kroos and shaw. looks like van gaal didn't want him for whatever reason, maybe because he thinks Vidal is better and wanted him?! :)

Wesley Sneijder says hello at 1/12 to us on more than one occasion.

When the bookies odds all simultaneously drop out to 1/25 or lower then it might be a sign that something is imminent and even then I'd be very suspicious.

Also, where are you seeing 1/12? All I can see is 1/8 at the lowest. Even 2/5 in some places.

I think he could be first choice on any of the positions mentioned ... depending on who plays around him maybe.

He was a certainty in a squad who came ended in third place in the world cup.

The fact he can play multiple positions on a high level means he is a perfect signing for any club.

If LvG takes him its not for a spot on the bench i think.
