The sun. It is breaking through. Forget your birds and your goats and Donegal postmen, I have just seen a large group of undesirables boarding the bus to Portmarnock. This is a good sign icon14.png

Hide yo kids, hide yo wife :D
This is hands down the best post I've ever seen in the Weather forum ;)

Dull all day in Athlone. Warm but no sun at all.

Any experts reckon the cloud will lift?

Getting a sinking feeling that where it's sunny now will have a good week and those who can't get rid of the cloud will suffer all week.

It's unreal how unlucky Ireland is with high pressure, probably due to being so close to the sea. No where get's as much cloud under a high than Ireland!

Warm but cloudy day here inland, but the sun after coming out in the past two hours and making for a lovely evening.

Question: Why is it hotter at around 7-8pm even though its commonly said that mid-day is the hottest time.
I've been monitoring the temps and around midday was 16 degrees or so and now its 18 degrees. Seems to be like this for the past week. Suddenly gets hotter once the sun starts setting.

Mid-day or shortly afterwards for the equatorial regions. Late afternoon for Ireland.

It's because the Sun is at it's strongest at around 2 p.m. here, it also takes a while for the land and sea to heat up: http://www.uvawareness.com/uv-index/uv-index.php?location=dublin

Intervals of sun and cloud today but we managed to max at 21.3c and record over 6 hours of sunshine. It was also our 4th 20c plus day in a row. Pleasant summer spell so far but nothing outstanding yet.

Nice end to the day in south Tipp. Sunny from about 6pm on after 2 days of cloud. Needless to say sun will come out in time for us all to go back to work tomorrow and indications are that by the time next weekend rolls by it will be cooler and cloudier.......

At last 5 days later than predicted we have a clear blue sky and sunshine.

Is there a site where we can see these images real time (I know about sat24)?

That cloud over the south midlands, east and south is burning off quite quickly this morning so it will be a nice warm sunny afternoon for the vast majority after the dull start. Finally :p

Top temperatures 23 or 24c. P.S a good bit cooler on east coast due to onshore wind despite sunshine.

Same here in south Dublin. I've just driven from the airport to sandyford and very dull and even slightly chilly. Cloud still sitting on the mountain, making 3 rock completely invisible. Hopefully MT and Kermit.de.frog are right and it'll burn off by afternoon

A glorious afternoon in prospect. Then it's sunny and very warm until Thursday evening for most I suspect a part from the north coast where cloudier and duller weather looks to come back on Thursday.

The weekend right now looks a few degrees cooler with more cloud in a light northerly wind. Still some nice weather around though particularly in the southern half of the country where temperatures will still touch 21 or 22c and it remains settled. No sign of any rainfall of significance for the forseeable future a part from the odd heavy shower in the far southwest later in the week.

Tis clear enough here now, but looking at the visibility satellite on MO, it appears cloud cover is increasing across the country if anything.
