Was wondering about the signage as Racket was still up last night, but looks like they've a new one in place now.

    Qiadn7J.png

    Looks a bit mad.

Saw that instagram thing earlier alright, they're really milking this 'move to the northside'' that being said i'll still pop in out of curiosity and won't say no to more food options in the area!

The Bernard Shaw have dropped a clanger on Instagram. Opening day, posting a meme basically calling northsiders "scumbags" and only the Bernard Shaw can turn them into people of class. They then deleted the meme.

Pretentious, classist twats would be the only way to describe them.
They can keep it so as far as I'm concerned.

    They then deleted the meme.

Deleting it made the apparent reason ('No, they're actually taking the piss out of classist stereotypes') even more nonsensical.

I live in Rathmines, walked past this place every day. Delighted it's gone! Self righteous to the point of pike-inducing.I'm against more hotels in the city, but on this occasion, give me the hotels any day over that lot.

In fairness I'd say their tongue was firmly in their cheek with that comment. Bodytonic have done decent business from the area with the Back Page without difficulty for how many years?

Their tongue can go scratch their eyeballs for all I care. You’d have to think that whoever the absolute fûckwit was who posted that meme would be told by their employer to go and take a running jump, down onto the train tracks...

With two pubs a decent bit of revenue could be put at risk.

Can't argue with that. Hopefully the ****wit who posted was torn a new one!

Jeez I thought it was just a (pretty crap) joke

BTW tried Loretta's tonight. Wasn't blown away, nice premises, starter and dessert good but the mains weren't great we felt.

I went midweek and it thought it was all excellent.

I think their joke was crap and even though a northsider allegedly posted it, I'm not sure how she ever envisaged it as being something worth re-sharing.

That being said, some people took it way too seriously. Apparently Noel Rock said people had emailed him in disgust at the whole thing. If you're emailing Noel Rock about that, I'm not sure the Northside is for you.

I'm born n bred in Phibsboro...I thought Bernard Shaw meme was brilliant...
Jesus lads it was a joke...
Snowflake society indeed..I suppose lost of young northsiders will need counselling now after being so upset by it

So long as our new neighbour down at Cross Guns doesn’t start trying to out-edge-lord that annoyance down at the White Moose, then I think we can all move on! : )

Question - have any of you ever been in that Dr Quirkeys just pass the crossroads (I'm guessing no) or have any of you ever seen anyone go into it?

I've been going past it for years and I'm not sure I've ever seen a customer there.

Yes I went in for a look. It is not an arcade like their other place. It’s a gambling emporium with slot machines, electronic roulette machines and other devices for gambling. It’s like a mini casino. There’s nothing fun or good-time about it. I felt a level of sadness when leaving. Sad for the people in there. Sad that somewhere like that has reason to exist in a village. It’s a waste of space.

it's also a massive eyesore. I can't understand how planners let it through to be built.

Its been an arcade/slot place for as long as I can remember (i'm in my late 30's), was called Caesars Palace back in the day if I recall correctly.

The Big Blue Bus (as it's actually known) posted on Instragram it will be spending the winter in Wicklow as they need Planning Permission to have it in the new location.

Update on their Instagram saying they won't be moving to the new Bernard Shaw at all.

Because Planners hate Phibsboro. The evidence is everywhere.

Well they just parked it on the path out front and then put up boards around it for 2 days before moving it on. Can't imagine that was ever going to be a goer.

On the joke, it was crap, but equally takes a swipe at south side as well as north side. Everyone pretends to be offended. Blah blah

Popped into EatYard for some lunch on Sunday. Had the tacos. Delicious and surprisingly filling. Didn't stay long or go into the pub itself but it looked busy.

Had a burger and hot dog inside on the opening night (never the best one to test things) and wasn’t impressed. The smell of fried food still an issue in that venue, probably the combination of open kitchen and very low ceiling upstairs doesn’t help. We’ll try Eatyard next time but won’t rush back

Can't find the reference now, but I'm fairly sure that it was rejected because there are enough fast food options in the area

Looks like the first application was invalid because the site notice wasn't right.
They have lodged it again (link below) and a decision is not made yet.
Personally I'm all for a Phibsburrito Bar, but the application makes no mention of Mexican food. I note with wariness that the applicant is the resident solicitor..
