This might suit us to the ground. Are there any other options worth considering?

If you do buy one don't forget you can claim £4.99 credit from Google.

    http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/18/google-chromecast-promotional-offers

    Ends mid July

As Kenny points out this is only be available in the UK, think I saw some posts on boards about how to get this here but I cannot find them, so probably best to assume it won't work.

Is there any way to get BBC iPlayer to work with the Chromecast or are you better off with a Roku box and changing the DNS on your router ?

I've bought two chromecast from amazon.de for 35 euro each inc. delivery but I live in Germany.
I use google chrome and mediahint which is supposedly now expired but bbc iplayer still works and I cast to the chromcast from chrome.
Previously I was using expatshield but that's definitely not installed and I get access to iplayer.

Thanks for that, I think I'll get a NowTV box this week. I've got a Cisco EPC3925 router, I think it's the standard one that UPC supply, they installed it about 3 years back. Any ideas if changing the DNS on these is simple or should I be looking to get a new router too ? If so any recommendations on something not too expensive that is easy to change the DNS ? Sorry for the dumb questions, it's just I'm gagging to get BBC iPlayer and wanna make sure I've got the right equipment to receive it

I bought my chromecast from amazon.co.uk last month

its approx 37 euro now there with free delivery as well - plenty of availability.

I guess 40 is okay for bricks and mortar argos - however amazons probably a better option than groupon if you are buying online

Is that UK only? I've had my Google Wallet account locked/closed for spoofing my location to redeem a $25 gift card. I can still use all of their services, but just can't give them any more money. :pac:

Would this be an option to have Netflix on a tv ? I have an iPad and I'm looking for a way to wirelessly stream Netflix to the tv in the kids bedroom and if so would the quality be good ?

I can watch Filmon on Chromecast via the Playto app using my android. I've found it very good recently, although the reviews aren't great. I use the paid version which is couple of quid, but the free version might well work ok.

    Free version of Playto

No, you need a Plex server to be running also. Either on a NAS or on a PC.

Cheers, I have D-Link ShareCenter NAS and wanted a solution for upstairs, my upc box plays them on my main tv.

Currently have one in the living room that was purchased in the US when this first came out. Only really uses I have for it is when I want YouTube on the big screen, whenever I am going through a Netflix subscription phase or the Chrome tab casting can come in handy if I am streaming a soccer game. Might get another one for the bedroom tv but at the minute I don't really use it too much to consider a second. If they implement an easy way for it to cast movies from my laptop on there I would snap a second one up straight away but I understand it might not actually happen!

Was just about to say that too, Plex is really the way to go, spiffy interface and everything even downloads the covers and info on the movie.

drag movie from laptop to address bar in chrome
if your wifi router isn't good though you might find that it stutters.

Nothing, but means that you don't need to buy a cable. (20 euro) and be able to use your phone like normal while it plays off your phone. Also when connecting a phone to the TV through a cable it's screen mirroring which if used for long periods of time will drain the battery and turn the phone into a radiator.

Is it true that you can watch a programme on tv being streamed from your computer (in chrome) while surfing the net at the same time. And how good is it for this anyone tried it?
