    Gospel JN 3:16-18

    God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
    so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
    but might have eternal life.
    For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
    but that the world might be saved through him.

    "Amen, amen, I say to you,
    unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,
    you do not have life within you.
    Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood

    The Communion-Banquet is offered not only to the Saints but to the poor, the weak, the blind and lame in their religious life provided they sinerely desire to be cured. However, if they are dead through mortal sin, they must rise again to life through a contrite Confession in the Tribunal of Penance.

    rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy
    both soul and body in Gehenna.
    Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin?
    Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father's knowledge.
    Even all the hairs of your head are counted.
    So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
    Everyone who acknowledges me before others
    I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.
    But whoever denies me before others,
    I will deny before my heavenly Father."

But He spoke to them this parable, saying, What man of you having a hundred sheep, and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert, and go after that which is lost, until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it upon his shoulders rejoicing. And on coming home he calls together his friends and neighbours, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I have found my sheep that was lost.’ I say to you that, even so, there will be joy in heaven over one sinner who repents, more then over ninety-nine just who have no need of repentance. Or what woman, having ten drachmas, if she loses one drachma, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the drachma that I had lost.’ Even so, I say to you, there will be joy among the angels of God over one sinner who repents.

    Two parables in today’s Gospel speak of the joy of regaining what had been lost, as a symbol of the joy in heaven at the conversion of one sinner. Christ came to regain souls that had wandered away. He lived, taught, suffered, and died to regain what was lost.

    B rethren: I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come that will be revealed in us. For the eager longing of creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God. For creation was made subject to vanity - not by its own will but by reason of Him Who made it subject - in hope, because creation itself also will be delivered from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God. For we know that all creation groans and travails in pain until now. And not only it, but we ourselves also who have the first-fruits of the Spirit - we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption as sons of God, the redemption of our body, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

And He saw two boats moored by the lake, but the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. And getting into one of the boats, the one that was Simon’s. He asked him to put out a little from the land. And sitting down, He began to teach the crowds from the boat. But when He had ceased speaking, He said to Simon, Put out into the deep, and lower your nets for a catch. And Simon answered and said to Him, Master, the whole night through we have toiled and have taken nothing; but at Your word I will lower the net. And when they had done so, they enclosed a great number of fishes, but their net was breaking. And they beckoned to their comrades in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw this, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord. For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had made; and so were also James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; henceforth you shall catch men. And when they had brought their boats to land, they left all and followed Him.

    This Sunday brings to our minds the miraculous draught of fishes, at the suggestion of the Master. Let us cast our nets following the Lord’s suggestions. We shall always be spiritually successful if we try to follow God’s will and plan.

First ‘hallow the Lord Christ in your hearts’ and from this inner life will spring compassionate love, mutual understanding and a readiness to assist others in all their needs.

    And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path,

    and it withered for lack of roots.
    Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it.
    But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit,

    Easter time has passed, but its spirit should never pass. Christ died once and now lives His glorious unending life. We also should remain dead to sin and continue to live together with Christ, the new life of holiness, nourished by the Holy Eucharist which is typified by the miraculous multiplication of loaves.

    Gospel MT 13:24-43

    Jesus proposed another parable to the crowds, saying:
    "The kingdom of heaven may be likened
    to a man who sowed good seed in his field.
    While everyone was asleep his enemy came
    and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off.
    When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well.
    The slaves of the householder came to him and said,
    'Master, did you not sow good seed in your field?
    Where have the weeds come from?'
    He answered, 'An enemy has done this.'
    His slaves said to him,
    'Do you want us to go and pull them up?'
    He replied, 'No, if you pull up the weeds
    you might uproot the wheat along with them.
    Let them grow together until harvest;
    then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters,
    "First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning;
    but gather the wheat into my barn."'"

    He proposed another parable to them.
    "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed
    that a person took and sowed in a field.
    It is the smallest of all the seeds,
    yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants.
    It becomes a large bush,
    and the 'birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.'"

    He spoke to them another parable.
    "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast
    that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat flour
    until the whole batch was leavened."

    All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables.
    He spoke to them only in parables,
    to fulfill what had been said through the prophet:
    I will open my mouth in parables,
    I will announce what has lain hidden from the foundation
    of the world.

    Then, dismissing the crowds, he went into the house.
    His disciples approached him and said,
    "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."
    He said in reply, "He who sows good seed is the Son of Man,
    the field is the world, the good seed the children of the kingdom.
    The weeds are the children of the evil one,
    and the enemy who sows them is the devil.
    The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
    Just as weeds are collected and burned up with fire,
    so will it be at the end of the age.
    The Son of Man will send his angels,
    and they will collect out of his kingdom
    all who cause others to sin and all evildoers.
    They will throw them into the fiery furnace,
    where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.
    Then the righteous will shine like the sun

    Commentary:
    13:32 becomes a tree: The parable of the Mustard Seed illustrates the contrast in size between the seed and the mature shrub, reaching nearly ten feet in height. Jesus likewise sows the kingdom in a small band of disciples, expecting it to grow into a worldwide Church.

    Jesus said to his disciples:
    "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field,
    which a person finds and hides again,
    and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

    When he finds a pearl of great price,
    he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.
    Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net thrown into the sea,

    When it is full they haul it ashore

    The Mass of the Latin Rite, the Mass of all time, which found stable form between 340 and 370, with some elements of the Mass re-ordered by Pope St Gregory the Great, is in Latin. The Novus Ordo Missae lacks of clearly sacrificial character, and was the artificial creation of Monsignor Bugnini's Concilium. The failure of Conciliarism to survive through vocations to the priesthood and religious life, suggests that it the NOM vanish and die with its creators, give or take a decade.     Most Masses offered nowadays are through various societies approved by Rome since the early eighties, when the success of the SSPX became evident, plus the patent illegality of a de-facto suppression of the TLM (a Curial study under JP2 confirmed what SSPX has said of Paul VI's Missale Romanum that it was not a suppression or supercession, hence Indults devolved to bishops rather than Rome). The FSSP, ICRSS and others are created to weaken the SSPX. It didn't. It meant more Latin Rite Masses.

    This doesn't directly relate to the question but I am angered how Pope Francis speaking at G8 denounced every effort at migration management and limitation, while Europe is invaded by violent and unemployable Moslems, and how he and his friends praised the condemned heretic, apostate priest and hack bible editor (sola fide is based solely on his edits of scripture), Martin Luther. I am angered most of all by his backing, through sabotaging anti-government efforts (usually through bad faith negotiation designed to reduce pressure on the dictator Maduro) of the genocidal Venezuelan government

    (Francis' bias towards the dictator Maduro shown through hostility towards the opposition and support given to government spoiler efforts, but probably this thread isn't the place for debates like this, this is for the readings, I'm posting the readings and Gospel's of what's now called the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite)

I know what I shall do, that when I am removed from my stewardship they may receive me into their houses.’ And he summoned each of his master’s debtors and said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ And he said, ‘A hundred jars of oil.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bond and sit down at once and write fifty.’ Then he said to another, ‘How much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred kors of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your bond and write eighty.’ And the master commended the unjust steward, in that he had acted prudently; for the children of this world, in relation to their own generation, are more prudent than the children of the light.     The parable of the stewart show the cleverness of the children of this world.’ ‘The children of the light’ on the other hand, neglect so many opportunities to gain an eternal happiness by not partaking in Holy Mass and lets other means of sanctification to go by unused. Let us use the goods of the world to gain merits for heaven.

    The feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus has long been solemnized on August 6, in different churches of the East and West. To commemorate the victory which arrested, near Belgrade in 1456, the invading tide of Islam, and which was announced in Rome on August 6, Callixtus III extended the feast to the whole Church.
    It is the feast of many churches under the title of St. Saviour. This is why St Pius X raised it to the rank of double of the second class, for it is the old title of the Cathedral of Rome, St. John Lateran, formerly called the Basilica of St. Saviour.

    while he dismissed the crowds.
    After doing so, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.
    When it was evening he was there alone.
    Meanwhile the boat, already a few miles offshore,
    was being tossed about by the waves, for the wind was against it.
    During the fourth watch of the night,
    he came toward them walking on the sea.
    When the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were terrified.
    "It is a ghost," they said, and they cried out in fear.
    At once Jesus spoke to them, "Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid."
    Peter said to him in reply,
    "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water."
    He said, "Come."
    Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.
    But when he saw how strong the wind was he became frightened;
    and, beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!"
    Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand and caught Peter,
    and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
    After they got into the boat, the wind died down.
    Those who were in the boat did him homage, saying,
    "Truly, you are the Son of God."

I fast twice a week; I pay tithes of all that I possess.’ But the publican, standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but kept striking his breast, saying, ‘O God, be merciful to me the sinner!’ I tell you, this man went back to his home justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

    Humility draws down God’s graces. God reveals himself to the humble and condemns arrogance and pride. We must be aware of our capabilities and accomplishments, but we must remember that ‘all these things are the work of the one and the same Spirit,’ and therefore give glory to God.

    But the woman came and did Jesus homage, saying, "Lord, help me."
    He said in reply,
    "It is not right to take the food of the children
    and throw it to the dogs."
    She said, "Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps
    that fall from the table of their masters."
    Then Jesus said to her in reply,
    "O woman, great is your faith!
    Let it be done for you as you wish."
    And the woman's daughter was healed from that hour.

But the more He charged them, so much the more did they continue to publish it. And so much the more did they wonder, saying, He has done all things well. He has made both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.

    St Paul at first persecuted the Church of Christ. But he was later converted and then ‘he spoke correctly.’ Like St. Paul we should draw our inspiration from Christ and truly rely on his graces which will enable us to be truly fruitful.

He also it is Who has made us fit ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. Now if the ministration of death, which was engraved in letters upon stones, was inaugurated in such glory that the children of Israel could not look steadfastly upon the face of Moses on account of the transient glory that shone upon it, shall not the ministration of the spirit be still more glorious? For if there is glory in the ministration that condemned, much more does the ministration that justifies abound in glory.

Dico enim vobis, quod multi prophétæ et reges voluérunt vidére quæ vos videtis, et non vidérunt: et audire quæ audítis, et non audiérunt. Et ecce, quidam legisperítus surréxit, tentans illum, et dicens: Magister, quid faciéndo vitam ætérnam possidébo? At ille dixit ad eum: In lege quid scriptum est? quómodo legis?     Luke 10:23-37

    At that time, Jesus said to His disciples: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! For I say to you, many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and they have not seen it; and to hear what you hear, and they have not heard it. And behold, a certain lawyer got up to test Him, saying, Master, what must I do to gain eternal life? But He said to him, What is written in the Law? How do you read? He answered and said, You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart, and with your whole soul, and with your whole strength, and with your whole mind; and your neighbor as yourself. And He said to him, You have answered rightly; do this and you shall live. But he, wishing to justify himself, said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor? Jesus answered and said, A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell in with robbers, who after both stripping him and beating him went their way, leaving him half-dead. But, as it happened, a certain priest was going down the same way; and when he saw him, he passed by. And likewise a Levite also, when he was near the place and saw him, passed by. But a certain Samaritan as he journeyed came upon him, and seeing him, was moved with compassion. And he went up to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. And setting him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him. And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper and said, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, I, on my way back, will repay you.’ Which of these three, in your opinion, proved himself neighbor to him who fell among the robbers? And he said, He who took pity on him. And Jesus said to him, Go and do also in like manner.

    S. By the words of the Gospel may our sins be blotted out.

    ‘Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.’ Assisting at Mass, we see the re-presentation and continuation of the Sacrifice on Calvary. We see with the eyes of faith, Christ present in the Consecrated Host. Personally and actively to participate in the Mass makes us love God more and more; it increases the spirit of sacrifice and kindness in dealing with others.

    Lesson from the letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Galatians

    Gal 3:16-22


    Brethren: The promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. He does not say, And to his offsprings, as of many; but as of one, And to your offspring, Who is Christ. Now I mean this: The Law which was made four hundred and thirty years later does not annul the covenant which was ratified by God, so as to make the promise void. For if the right to inherit be from the Law, it is no longer from a promise. But God gave it to Abraham by promise. What then was the Law? It was enacted on account of transgressions, being delivered by angels through a mediator, until the offspring should come to whom the promise was made. Now there is no intermediary where there is only one; but God is one. Is the Law then contrary to the promises of God? By no means. For if a law had been given that could give life, justice would truly be from the Law. But the Scriptures shut up all things under sin, that by the faith of Jesus Christ the promise might be given to those who believe.

Et cum ingrederétur quoddam castéllum, occurrérunt ei decem viri leprósi, qui stetérunt a longe; et levavérunt vocem dicéntes: Iesu præcéptor, miserére nostri. Quos ut vidit, dixit: Ite, osténdite vos sacerdótibus. Et factum est, dum irent, mundáti sunt. Unus autem ex illis, ut vidit quia mundátus est, regréssus est, cum magna voce magníficans Deum, et cecidit in fáciem ante pedes eius, grátias agens: et hic erat Samaritánus. Respóndens autem Iesus, dixit: Nonne decem mundáti sunt? et novem ubi sunt? Non est invéntus, qui redíret et daret glóriam Deo, nisi hic alienígena. Et ait illi: Surge, vade; quia fides tua te salvum fecit.

    A t that time, Jesus was going to Jerusalem, He was passing between Samaria and Galilee. And as He was entering a certain village, there He met ten lepers, who stood afar off and lifted up their voice, crying, Jesus, Master, have pity on us. And when He saw them He said, Go, show yourselves to the priests. And it came to pass as they were on their way, that they were made clean. But one of them, seeing that he was made clean, returned, with a loud voice glorifying God, and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks; and he was a Samaritan. But Jesus answered and said, Were not the ten made clean? But where are the nine? Has no one been found to return and give glory to God, except this foreigner? And He said to him, Arise, go your way, for your faith has saved you.
    S. By the words of the Gospel may our sins be blotted out.

    The Samaritans were despised as schismatics by the Jews, but we find the Lord frequently brings them forward as illustrations of his teaching. The Epistle today completes the lesson contained in the Gospel by reminding us that it is not the title of children of Abraham which is efficacious unto salvation, but faith in Jesus Christ.
