I'm not a Liverpool fan, but feel sorry for Gerrard. He gave everything to the club down through the years and this was probably his last chance to win the title. The slip was a pivotal moment in the season because Chelsea probably wouldn't have scored otherwise.

Well you have no idea what would have happened and either does anyone else so thats rather a pointless statement as you well know.

Gerrard has had a brilliant career there is no need to feel sorry for him.

Good video of him here from last August v Man U U21, when he was only 16.
Every touch, so not only the good ones. He is constantly after the ball, and see how comfortable he is with both feet.
I can't even tell whether he's right footed or not, though he shoots with his right. Great left footed pass to the wing on 2.10...

Totally agree with Mr. Alan. We've had a great season and punched above what we thought was our weight. It's up to us to sustain this, build on it and most importanly learn from the last few weeks.

We are going into Champs League football next year where each game is going to be of huge pressure like the last few weeks. We have to know how to break down defensive teams, we have to know when to go on lockdown, secure a win and not try get more goals than necassary in a game.

Most importantly, we cannot rely on results of other teams we are competing against, we need to focus on ourself winning.

Alan is right, there's a hell of a lot more positives than negatives considering what the club was through with H&G, Hodgson et al, taking a risk on Rodgers which a lot of opposition fans laughed at and have eggs on their faces now! I think we all had reservations about it, some more than others, but that was out of concern for the club.

Signings arguably haven't been great but Suarez, Henderson, Sturridge and Coutinho have paid off handsomely, I think with an injury free season Allen will deliver consistently on what he undoubtedly has, we've Flanagan, Sterling, loads of talented youngsters to come back from loan, Wisdom, Ilori, Suso, hell even Borini must be dying to prove himself after a very good season.

Financially we aren't spending as much as we'd like, but at least when the budget is tight we sign players on loan, not expensive "frees" like Cole and Jovanovic. We've CL nights at Anfield to attract players now, one of the best, if not the best ground for European football and a legendary record in Europe.

The back 4 can be sorted, we'd an injury crisis there for must have been half the season, Mignolet and Sakho will improve. We know our squad is light, we missed Henderson to give us another option, but we'll add strength and Rodgers is a great coach.

We won 11 on the trot, my jinxing skills worked for a long time! When we consider it only dawned on most of us that a title challenge was on after Fulham, some still thought 4th was in doubt, the players coped with the pressure and expectations brilliantly until Monday. Yep it was naive, but feck it, they went out trying to make us believe the impossible, for a few short minutes City's goal difference was a target.

As for bottling it, maybe we did for those 12 minutes or so, look at the Special One Mourinho and battle hardened PL and CL winning Chelsea players, they bottled it in 4 different games when we put the pressure on them. City didn't and made their games in hand count putting huge pressure on us to W13 and D1, we didn't have the experience, but again, that isn't anything we all didn't know.

Competition for the top 4 will be as competitive as ever but we're in a great position. Our form since January last year is exceptional, so maybe the flash in the pan merchants will be right, they've been 100% wrong up to now so a stopped clock and all that!

Rossiter is a super star in the making, and the similarities to a young Roy Keane are frightening at times.

If he stays clear of injury and continues with his current rate of progression then I can see him breaking into the 1st team in the next 18months.

So does he develop the bad attitude later on??

Keane was 20 before he was a regular at Forest, 22 when he joined United, so Rossi has time on his side...

I couldn't give a flying fook if he becomes half the player Roy Keane was in his prime.

Strange season. It was like no team really wanted or believed they could win it.

Chelsea had no striker and Champions League was the primary focus. Could have won the league but lacked concentration against weaker teams.

Liverpool had brilliant strikers but defence shifted 49 goals. Not good enough to be champions. Fantastic late run but did choke in the home straight with 1 point from expected 4-6.

Man City struggled with injuries but also lost confidence after another iffy Champions League. Large squad and good attacking game plans with lots of goals got them over the line.

Arsenal, we all knew they would flounder eventually. Not good enough and also need a striker. Indicative of a poor season that they led the league for so long.

I was looking again and saw Papadopoulos is out injuried again this time with a dislocated shoulder. I was hoping he would be fully fit for the summer and would have a good world cup for Greece and we might have though about going back in for him.

Sadly it looks like has abit of the Agger's about him when it comes to injuries.

Part of me really hates saying this but we do need someone like Ashley Williams at the back. He is a solid defender very rarely makes mistakes and can defend and he is a fighter.

    West Ham will beat City.

I am not really sure I mean that.

Would rather Caulkner than Williams imo.

The last time West Ham United were victorious at the Etihad in the league was 2006, that game was televised, also televised that same day was Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Newcastle.

I hate doing this to myself, I really do......it really is killing me, this thing called hope.

Dear lord.. only 1600 pandas left.

Rodgers needs to sort this out or we won't be filling Anfield when the capacity is upgraded.

Williams is what is known in the trade as a "deekhead". Can't stand him.

Caulker has the physique, but is he quick enough?
I'm not sure Rodgers would go for him. He had the chance last summer having had him at Swansea, and with Spurs making him available (unless they wouldn't sell to us?), but he went for Ilori & Sakho instead.

Would he ever play? I'd rather give the games to Ilori...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

I like to see Ilori get some minutes next season.I think he will be a great defender for us.
Reid from West Ham would be a better signing than Caulker.I would like to see us try & sign Benatia though.

Does anyone know what the goal record is for a teenager? Rooney scored 11 for Utd Sterling is on 9 and so conceivably could at least match that.

Wouldn't be overly keen on Caulker at all. But then, I thought Gary Cahill would never make it at a top four club either.... So what do I know?! In before someone says "Not much".

They certainly will, just not this Sunday.

    Not Much! :)

I always thought there was a player in Cahill, but this season under Mourinho's defensive style is where he's proven his best. I thought we could have taken a punt on him when Villa were releasing him...

Surely Owen got more than that

I'd guess Michael Owen, 18 league goals in first full season. 23 in total.
