Nobody said pay over the odds?

Surely the club gets to decide the value of the player to them, not us. I'm not saying they haven't made mistakes but trying to get good deals is a good thing. We'd all love it to be like FIFA where you pick a target and pay what it takes but it's obviously a lot more complex than that. And if we get a reputation as a soft touch in the market it will have a knock of effect on future deals.

I am all for having a valuation, but you also have to consider the club you are buying from.
How badly do they need the money? How willing are they to sell?
And who else is interested, which could push up the price?
All have a big impact on what you ultimately need to pay.

I don't get to go into Esso and say

"I think petrol is only worth 79c a litre, like 10 years ago. I don't care about anything else that affects the price, that's my valuation..."

But if you think you can get petrol that will do the same job at better value somewhere else you'd go there tho. I just think that people keep talking about us low balling but I haven't really seen any proof of that. We lost out on Kono cause the owner wouldn't sell to us not cause we low balled them.

Ya I think it was more lack of CL football why we couldn't get any of our previous targets. Still though now that you have CL football and want the elite players you have to be willing to pay the wages because if you don't someone else will.

Someone like Sanchez would and should command circa. 150k per week in the current market.

    Todays Twitter goss...

Shaqiri interest is genuine but we have not pursued the deal since over two weeks ago, as Sanchez from Barca is a possibility and resources directed at that deal.
Player allegedly wants the PL and Liverpool and Utd the favourites, but Juve are in strong as well.

So where does that leave Lallana? Do we do that as well?

I would take Sanchez before Shaqiri, more of a goal threat, great worker, and we are well covered at #10 where Shaqiri likes to float in.

Can we not just buy all the players? Sure there's even memes for it.

    Stewart Downing cost £20m.

Yeah let's not make that mistake again tho right... Tho I would be thrilled if we can get Sanchez. He should be achievable and would be perfect on paper.

Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey yo, hey.

Would much prefer Sanchez than Shakira or Lallallalalalana

    And also on a pitch.

Though tbf he had a great game the other day. Not so much for Shaquiri, hopefully he's just a back up plan.

Well done to a former foe. It has to go down as one of the greatest WC goals.

Cahill is such a great player. People will say 'ah here, that's the wrong word to use to describe him'. In my opinion, he's great because he maximised every drop of ability he had, and was a big game performer for a very long time. Three world cups in succession leading a lost cause and scoring and performing well.

I feel like Suarez is in a similar mould, just with a drastically greater level of technical ability.

I find it hard to believe that Sanchez is a genuine possibility.

Hate the term marquee player but we should definitely be aiming for one attacking marquee player this season, Sanchez would be an amazing signing.

The thing about Sanchez though is he would be a starter, so where would he play and instead of who?
I have zero problem with our starting front 4 of Coutinho, Sturridge, Suarez and Sterling it is as good as anything the league has to offer and dare I say it is only bettered buy Real Madrid IMO.

To expand on that I think he is a possibility but I find it hard to believe that Ayre will get the deal done.

Our style of play would certainly suit him and I would imagine he would love to play with Suarez.

Wages could be an issue for us I'd imagine but as said in here often enough if hes worth it we should pay him what he wants.

If he is available, I would initially think that one of City or PSV might want him, in which case we are done. But beyond them, I think we would have every chance if we are competing with Juve, United, Atletico or Arsenal, for example...

Clearly Coutinho whose name does not start with an 'S' does not fit in that line-up and Sanchez would slot straight in.

These are the issues; competition for him and wages. I could see a scenario where we were close only to get bombed out of it at the 11th hour. Unfortunately I just can't see it unless we're the only ones in which is highly doubtful.

With the way Sterling has come on, I think that's fair. Raheem in front of Stevie and Hendo, Alex and Luis either side of Danny...

But again, with our profile, CL football, laying great attacking stuff last season, the only thing that can kill us is if one of the huge players come in.

I don't see City signing a striker unless they sell one, likewise PSG.
Atletico will need 2, but I don't see Barca selling to a rival...

Broken record. There is nowt wrong with overpaying for the right players IMHO. If United think they can sign Sanchez, Liverpool can sign him. We should be throwing the kitchen sink at him, pay an extra 5-10M. He's at the time of his career and with his skillset to not settle for anything less than a club that can challenge for the title and is in the Champions League.

Lallana is different. If the 15M valuation/bid is true, the club have it spot on. 25M-30M being what Southampton want is lunacy.

Keep Suarez and sign Vidal and we win everything... simples

Who was it that made a shout for Medel and to see if we could get him from Cardiff on the cheap?

great shout if his performance last night is anything to go by.

when he has more accomplished players around him he looks back to his former self cleaning up and being a little bollóx.
