It's not the diesel that's the problem...

The last diesel I drove was.... gutless. It boosts for 1500rpm, then bleurgh. And the next gear just kills any momentum dead beause it's geared so tall.

The car that I drive now, is anything but. It just encourages you to keep your foot in all the way to the redline.

Ah come on most diesels are not that bad. Sure there not a patch on your car power wise and I'm not arguing that. But the way some people on here describe diesel you'd think they would struggle to move. My golf is not quick by anyone's standards it's a standard 1.9tdi 105bph. But at the end of the day if you put your foot to the floor it will move plenty fast it's not as if I have to pull into let people in petrols off :) sure my one is dead at 4k rpm that is the disadvantage.

I can't wait to get a 197 Clio or 225 megane when I qualify but until then I will enjoy my golf. Chances are the Clio or megane will only be a weekend car. My car does 55mpg your does 21mpg of course it's going to perform way better than a normal diesel that doesn't mean that normal diesel are sh!t.

SG, make sure you get one with an insulated roof. Otherwise condensation will drip all over your car. ;)

If u want to go cheapo, you can do the same with a layer of roofing membrane ;)

Or if it just has a vapour barrier she should be grand too ;)

My firestones never arrived today, long story but basically the couriers fooked up. So my mate gave me bridgestones for the firestone price.
So I now have Goodyear efficient grip on the front and Bridgestone turanzas on the back. Gonna speed up when it's raining :D

I was in a 159 convoy today Pred on the m7. I was hoping you'd arrive to complete it.

We used this stuff on our roof in the shed in the new house. Serious stuff insulation on the inside means its bone dry. Not cheap though

    Renault 1.5 90 in a Megane 2-door. Car's a year old. It's not mine, it's a household car.

It just doesn't feel nice to drive anywhere outside city traffic. On the motorway, it needs a 6th gear but doesn't have one. It's limiting to because it stops you going crazy. Still, crawling along in first gear riding the clutch all the way, I'll take the diesel. It has its place. I never said all diesels were ****, and I've been saying the same things about the Megane a long time before I got the Rx.

Even the Laguna we had before was better. It felt utterly and totally effortless getting up to speed with a nice, torquey petrol engine that whirred along. It was a lovely car right up until the gearbox went pop.

    Different cars from different courses.

The Rx is just goading me, however. Unleash the hornets in 2nd gear and it's doing 100kph pretty ****ing quickly and it's giggling and buzzing all the way. It just builds and builds and then beeps to let you know that it might be a good idea to shift up because it doesn't feel like the engine's straining at all.

I love it to bits. But it will ruin me because of that. I'm just too weak of character.

I've had a few reasonably quick cars , you have to be responsible and grown up about it. You are only ever going to get to drive them on in a limited number of circumstances, I can't say i'm an angel but i can say the amount of times i try something stupid or drive in manner to intimidate or put pressure on cars in front of me is down to almost nil. It's not worth it, if you find yourself in traffic and it's not going at the pace you'd like then just suck it up and tip along. You are keeping the risk to others and yourself at minimum, plus let's face it anytime anyone tries anything stupid on the road we all think the same thing "D%&k head" :D

As for economy, i wouldn't see 30 going down a hill in neutral behind a bus :D

There is another black 159 in Nenagh, and if u see a maroon petrol one it belongs to a mate of mine. A bird just down the road (in country terms) has a red 2.4 Ti SW and a bloke in birr has a newish guilietta (always waves at me)
I've yet to 'convoy' though :(

To be fair that's possibly the ****iest example you could think to compare what you have now against. Apples and oranges, apples and alien space oranges even:)

Any diesel I've ever had or driven is at its worst in city traffic! I could not stand most of them as a daily in traffic.

Well good riddance to sh*te exams. I'll be re-doing some in August for sure. But with such a c*nt of a year it's easy to see why, so poorly organised and far too much work. Hence I may have taken a fortnight off here not too long ago....

Anyways, one more crappy report on Monday then an interview/presentation on Tuesday and I'm done, for now. Then commence the filling of the 156 thread :D

In other news, my 406 is in the garage. First time it's been in there, ever! That's my garage for anyone wondering, I will in my arse let anyone else near that car, goodness knows what botched job they might do ;)

Also, nice and greasy roads out, hope it stays that way to wash the oil and diesel off the ground and other stuff..... ;)

It'd take any mechanic about 6 weeks of head scratching to figure out what the hell happened the car in the first place :D

"I don't remember pugeot having those engines"

I know... but at the same time, not really. I've driven very few cars. Fiesta 1.2, Laguna 1.8, Grand Scenic, Megane.... now the RX. I'm trying to avoid whiffling about cars I don't know. Anyway. Apples and Oranges are still both fruits, after all.

Curiously, both engines produce the same peak torque, it's just a matter of where they produce it. And that's what really defines the feel of the thing.

I'm enjoying a rather fresh bottle of Talisker myself.

    I just can't drink wine...

    So. No more driving tonight.
