Yep, you could get both at the start and then just then 110 towards the very end of the tours. To be honest a late 110 wouldn't be a bad buy. Some had air con and would be a decent hack and they don't feel all that old to travel in.

did the tours have the BXE engine does anyone know - the blighters are in my head all morning :D.

If its a BXE engine - I can move along happy knowing I don't have to think about them anymore :D

On the other hand if it isn't - then if I could get one cheap enough in good working order - it might do the same sort of job as the Corolla outside.

The fact the safety isn't too far behind the Mk 2 is attracting my attention - maybe it shouldn't but.....

Problem is on done deal - the prices are all over the place a bit - seen one for 3,500 - a few more at around 6,500 and I think someones looking for 8 k for one.

Not happening at 8 k, 6.5 k is making me scratch the chin - is it worth it for something that might only be worth 2 to 3 k in a couple of years (potentially).

I may not do it at all - have been in Mk 1 Octavia taxis - and they do tend to be noiser* then a Passat tdi.

They do however (imo) ride very well - which compensates to a degree for the engine.

They did them in a 1.4 16 valve too - one of the done deal tours was one of those - but its tdi or nothing :D

Just thinking outloud like I do - trying to resist a Panda too.

*they were all pre Tour era models though - what difference that makes I don't know.

Sorry only seeing this now! No didn't get to see your Bora. I think it was around 20 past 9 when I went through Carrick on the Sat but I spent all day Sunday in Carrick and never spotted it. Maybe next time!

That was about the time I was coming into Carrick myself (from Sligo side) that day. I don't think I was in Carrick that Sunday though.

So you like only like MK1, MK2 and MK3 Golfs, OSI ?

I'd still do them. They're the ones that allow for the camber to be adjusted and for the sake of another few quid you don't need to worry about them again. How long are the uppers lasting normally?

I've put in one set (well actually 3 sets coz the GSF ones lasted <10K and the Febi ones only lasted 2 weeks)in 2.5 yrs it doesn't go through them like the 156.
Next time I'll get the poly ones.
Do you know anyone who would be competent to set it up when I do?

Nope. I dislike the vast majority of them. I can appreciate a well kept Mk1 GTI or cabriolet. But the rest pretty much bore the hole off me. I'm still surprised to this day that I managed to find a Mk5 GTI I liked as much as I did my own.

I like the MK1 and I really like the Mk2 after that I lost interest.

535d with 272hp and 560 Nm of torque is dissapointing? :D

Because I wanted a quick hatchback that was also versatile and comfortable. You ask any motor journo the best all rounder, they'll all say it's the GTI. So I decided to test one fully expecting not to like it. The first one I tried, I hated. It had cloth seats 17" Monza, no AC and black plastic everywhere. Looked nothing like a car that cost ~32k+ new. Only for I saw the one I have in another dealership on the way home, I would have left it at that. But I had a look and found it much more agreeable.

    Lol?

Makes sense I guess, just find it odd for someone to buy a car they've no real interest in to buy it on the recommendation of a few jurnos but sure you were happy in the end so it's a win I guess.

Yes lol, just having a laugh.
You said your next car would be a 911 turbo once you get the all clear, no?

Did any of ye fix any of the broken heater bars in a rear windscreen? I see that there is a kit you can buy, but the reviews aren't great.....

I'm sure plenty of ye had the problem, every one of our yokes has at least one gone.

Finally went down to the brothers new lockup to have a look around, big enough for around 4 cars I'd say, nice spot.

There's also a seemingly abandoned blue MGBGT and there was a Monster Truck next door!

    *Pictures edited out on.....better judgement!

Nice garage and all, but what's the deal with the robbery mask at the back of the EK? :P

It's to do with the Kanjo style they're obsessed with. Somethings those strange Japs do :pac:

A bagged Audi A3 lives there as well when not in use.

So I read the fault codes on the E39(Thanks very much for the reader Ardennes :)) and the only error I got was P0505 - Idle Air Control System. Anyone have any ideas?

I think the problem is your idle air control system ;)

Excellent site HERE for explanation, cause and solution to codes!

According to ned in autolusso it can take 4 hours to get the tracking set it up properly on it when the arms are polybushed......but most of that I guess would be adjusting the camber etc on the uppers.

Surely George knows of a reputable chap who knows what he's doing. I dread getting it done on the gtv when they'll have this to play with. :pac:
