Don't get too excited though, its a long way from Japan, and Ireland/Europe have to get their taxes

It does make for interesting viewing though.

I wonder if a car costs €1000-€2000 there, what's the final price here... would you know by any chance?

Say you brought in a 2.0 bora, and you got it for €2000 incl shipping
    You pay €200 import duty
You then pay 23% VAT on top of €2200, so €2700

Then, you might get stung at the top VRT rate if you gave nothing to prove the co2 figure (maybe on the bora you might be able to get something)
Worst case scenario 36%, so say gov reckon car is worth €3000 here, €1000 Vrt. So €2000 becomes €3700

How low? They'll refuse to test it if they can't get it on/off the rollers and conduct the brake test without it touching the ground.

Lads regarding classic insurance, is it cars that are 25 years and older that qualify or what?

I think it varies between insurance companies.

People, I've been keeping a close eye on a car that's been in a garage. Thing is it's been there since at least January (flat tyres and gone green from sitting up). It's a golf. I just find it strange that it hasn't been sold by now. The fact that the tyres are flat and gone green shows that it hasn't even been taken on test drives. It's not advertised on DD or Carzone, only on the salesman's own webpage, which is hard enough to find. I don't want to post up the link, because sure as to God, knowing my luck, someone will see it and go and buy it..... what do ye think?

I think links or it didn't happen firstly, or pm it anyways

15 years for some cars, 20 for others and 25 for others. Campion said they would do the FTO when it was 15 years old.

Ya that's what I was thinking, but the price doesn't reflect that, 3 month warranty too, suppose that's just the basic engine and gearbox......

If you're gona buy it go in and get it looked at and then come back about it, but id say there's one or two things iffy on it, them cars usually sell like hotcakes

Got her to fire up this evening. A bit of faffing about was needed, but it wasn't so bad considering it hadn't moved at all in 13 years prior to that.
Still at early stages of the whole project obviously, we're hoping to have it on the road in about a month and sometime down the line we'll be doing an engine conversion, when we get a lock up and a decent lift.

Yeah, its a good little engine but we're looking to make something really unique, and an engine conversion would really complete it.

We discussed it today, it will be a 2.0 or 2.3 turbo. Its really a whole other project thats further down a looooong road. We're concentrating on getting the car looking right and driving well as it is, take it to a few shows and show off.
    But, watch this space .

Well if it's a 2.3 turbo I can share what i know about them no bother, owning one and all has it's benefits :pac:

Ah its a nightmare, in a way its handy being at the house but a lock up would be brilliant, theres one or two not far from me, we'll be looking into them.

Parts, well I was quoted €106 + VAT + postage for three light lens' :p Found a guy in Meath who breaks all sorts of Saabs and he says he has what I need, I might be able to pick up a few things from him. Got lucky with that tbh!
