    If a British prince doesn't have a dukedom or earldom his wife just gets called by his first name. Technically Kate Middleton is Princess William.

    A man's wife can be called his first name and surname as well. So a Mrs John Doe. Bit old fashioned and not seen much in everyday use.

    Does that mean that she and William would need to have a physical tract of land as a duchy for her to be called Princess Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge?
