You'll get an invitation to a PCA familiarization session with your PCA date

Glad to hear that, thought I had missed it. Know a few people who are in the running for this and are waiting but none of them have been to the familiarisation session either

Guys I know someone with 68% who still hasn't received forms. The only thing I can think of is that I was right at the cut off mark for the next match to move to Vetting and was slightly higher than my friend due to IST.

Is there anyone else in the 60's who has received Vetting?

I'm bricking it about PCA..............(don't worry, no date yet)

Just watched it Vick, very helpful thank you :) At least I have a bit of an idea now as to what it will look like in real life, when you see the diagram of it on the psni website your mind can produce some strange images :P

defo seems very confusing how its all going -- seems only few (well, going by the posts here, granted there could be loads not on this) with 68+ have vetting only forms,,,

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 106 ✭✭Clare1304

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 380 ✭✭vickmackey

ooooooooooo nope, didnt know about that!
did you get to look at the video link I put up? - its as close as we'll get to the practical...would maybe give you some ideas if need any?..

    Found it Guys :)

Seriously - do not underestimate the PCA. It winds you. The stopping and starting. People aren't prepared for it and that makes them careless.

    Do this:

Get on a treadmill and warm up with a 1% incline and a 5-minute walk at 6kmph, then, walk for one minute @ 6kmph, then after 60 seconds, sprint for one minute @ 16kmph. Repeat this 6 times. After your 6th 1-minute sprint, reduce your walk time down to 30 seconds @ 6kmph, then after those 30 seconds, sprint @ 16kmph for 30 seconds. Repeat 6 times. After your 6th 30-second sprint, reduce your walk time down to 10 seconds @ 6kmph, then after those 10 seconds, sprint @16kmph for 10 seconds. Repeat 6 times. After your last 10-second sprint, bring the treadmill down to 4.5kmph for 2 minutes.

    Next:
Get on a rower. The Concept II being the rower of choice for anyone.
Row at a leisurely pace at Level 10 for one minute, then after 60 seconds, go hell for leather like your life depended on it for 60 seconds. Repeat 6 times. Then as above with the treadmill, after the 6th sprint-row, row leisurely for 30 seconds, and as soon as second 31 displays, you go at it again like a madman for 30 seconds. Repeat 6 times. After the 6th 30-second lunatic row, bring your leisurely rows down to 10 seconds, then 10 seconds like your life depended on it... you guessed it... Repeat 6 times. After your 6th 10-second crazy-man row, reduce the Level 10 to Level 2, row for 5 minutes at a slow pace. It should take you 5 seconds to reach out, and 5 seconds to pull back. This is your cool down.

Do your stretches after you cool down, and if you can complete the above, you're ready for the PCA.

Some decide to start on a Rower, some decide to start on a Treadmill. It's a personal choice, but make sure you do both, even if it means reducing 6 reps down to 3 at the start. The reduction to 30 seconds, and then 10 will tell you how well your body is prepared to take on the likes of the PCA.

This is a well-known program, and more or less guarantees that your body will be ready for the PCA if you can get in 6 reps at 1 minute, 30 seconds and 10 seconds on both rower and treadmill.

Give it a go, but be careful at the same time. If you're not already fit, then do the Couch to 5k running program for beginners.

    Good luck!

Don't know what I would do without these forums!!

I was in the delay batch and thankfull passed with a 'B'. I am still waiting to hear on my pca date and also haven't received any vetting forms, anyone in the same boat?

Not to sure what to feel about the pca, so many people saying so many different things, my brother who is also in the PSNI has said when he did his pca it wasn't too difficult, the hype of the day gets you through it, but still worrying!

Work as a greenkeeper full time so get plenty of exercise and lifting heavy objects on a daily basis, still worried that I need a lot more training!

I am in the same boat as you! Waiting game I think. I'm sure we will hear by the end of the month.

Still no post for me yet. Find comfort in knowing ive made it this far compared to the huge numbers that applied. Anyone else find themselves watching more cop shows on tv to pick up tips on everyday normal policing tasks. I mean uk cop shows and not the high octane US cop shows

Hello everyone. I have just registered to the boards thanks to some of the good info i have found in the recruitment threads. Unfortunately I only discovered them a couple of weeks ago. I have had a strange application process. I too am one of the delayed group. Some weeks after my assessment centre I received an email stating that I failed to prove that I met the IT criteria and after forwarding various documents got another email stating that my application had been terminated. About a fortnight ago I had a phone call from Deloitte who said they had been looking through my file and it was obvious that I had plenty of IT qualifications and if i provided a letter from my previous college stating that the course I done was equivalent to to the criteria set out that i might be allowed back in. I then received my AC results and found in a 66% middle of the road person. Just today another message saying that I have ticked all Deloitte's boxed and have been passed onto psni directly and wishing me all the best. It has been a bit up and down but in still in with a chance I think. Does anyone know how many people roughly are left in the process and how many are going to be taken on? I suppose we should have at least a 50% chance?

Hi Loggingfolk, We really need a merit list in order to know where we stand. In previous campaigns the pool was made of over 1000 people. Meant there was a lot of spare potential cops.
